Umm. Governorships in big states like NJ and VA are hugely important. There have been almost as many US Presidents from Govs (17) as US Presidents from Congress (22). Considering that there are a lot fewer governors, those positions matter.

Private insurers will also be told how much they are allowed to charge even as they will have to offer coverage at virtually the same price to anyone who applies, regardless of health status or medical history. But the insurance companies are not being taken over and this is not socialized healthcare.

Jersey gets a bad rep for North Jersey, Trenton, and Camden. The rest of it is beautiful farmland and amazing beaches. With the best roads on the planet. On the roads thing, complain all you want but traffic circles and jug handles are amazingly efficient and safe. I have never seen roads in any Northern state with roads as nice as Jersey.

You're right. Reagan's big tent doesn't have room for the social controllers (religious right) and individual rights people under the same roof. Moreover, there no longer remain small-government-fiscally-conservative-GOP candidates at the national level. What's needed is a new answer and it's not the Libertarian Party--not because its platform is intellectually bankrupt--but its credibility tends to be.
