I don’t know. I don’t remember much get rid of Edmunds talk because it wasn’t realistic. But he was definitely the focus for many fans before last season. He also didn’t grade very well in 2021 which had little impact on the defense. What I’m saying is the experience of the defense in this scheme is rare. We dont have to worry about MLB because the players and coaches will give him support. What?

One thing I would like to point out is how poorly Edmunds graded in 2021. Defense finished 1st in points and yards. This board was not happy with Edmunds. MLB was considered our weakest position outside of CB2. The next year Edmunds has a good year and grades well, defense has another good year statistically. But now we’re once again worried about MLB. I don’t know what my point is concerning 2023 but maybe it’s more about the collective scheme than the individual players. It’s probably why Dodson is the front runner because he knows the system inside and out. The Bills defense will be good no matter who the MLB is because the players around him are very experienced in the scheme. He’ll be in the right position more often than not. We saw it last year with all the injuries. They still had good stats. In the playoffs we need someone to make plays but the regular season should go much like previous years.

If you’re not ready mentally everything will suffer. It’s impossible to know how Bernard will play after a full offseason in the same defense. It does seem like Dodson is their choice as of now with only Bernard as a challenger.

I don’t think we know anything about Bernard yet. Can’t really judge from his rookie year. He obviously needed some time from watching rookie snaps. Rashaan Evans is sitting out there for cheap. We’ll see what happens.

So he started be Cleveland. I didn’t really think much about that game. Went back and watched. Stat line looked good. 9 solo tackles but none for loss. Didn’t do anything else stat wise. I turned it off when QB Jacoby Brissett made him look like a fool in the open field. 1v1 and Brissett juked him and Dodson wiffed. I don’t think Dodson is starting quality.

Beane mentioned Bernard and Dodson as having good camps. Probably not a coincidence. Vote of confidence? Rashaan Evans Could be signed very cheap right now for insurance . Im telling you right now, Dodson is not a starter.

Yeah you’re definitely taking the negative approach here. Dodson definitely does nothing for me. I watched Jacoby Brissett juke him in the open field last year. But I’m not really worried about it because it’s a passing league and the Bills will likely use 3 safeties personnel this year to replace Edmunds in the passing game. They might even be better, more unpredictable because of it. In the run game with improved DT depth I think it’ll help any MLB they throw out there. AJ Klein can get it done vs the run for a year if needed. IMO we have 3 starting quality CBs in Jackson, Elam, and Benford. I don’t care where they were drafted. That said Elam has more upside and should get the nod as long as they are pretty equal. Is this a confession?

He has an ability to get behind the defense. I don’t think he scares teams but he definitely is productive in that role. Now the question is if we had someone like DeSean Jackson in their prime what his numbers look like with Josh Allen? Maybe Gabe’s numbers are what they are because of Josh Allen. But he does produce down field.

Torrence must be the real deal to unseat Bates before pads go on. Means he’s got it mentally already. Should be exciting news for everyone.

For me the perfect compliment to a WR1 is someone that stretches the field and scores TDs. WR2’s tend to have flaws. When I say WR2 I’m speaking more about outside WR. Technically a WR2 can be a TE or slot WR also if we’re talking target shares. So sometimes I get those mixed up. We’re not use to saying X Y Z F and so on. Maybe we’re in an era where teams have multiple WR1’s. Multiple $20 million dollar receivers. I think it’s possible. Especially since the league is phasing out high paid RBs. Kincaid could be 2nd in targets when he hits his prime. Wouldn’t he be considered WR2 in that case? Or are we strictly talking X and Z WR’s? Diggs can play every WR position. I want a WR opposite him being a field stretcher. Gabe Davis can do that. So that’s why I call him the perfect WR opposite Diggs. I don’t know if he’ll always be 2nd on the team in targets. He could easily be 3rd as early as this season depending on Kincaid.

I don’t think I would want to sign a WR as a WR2. I would rather draft a guy with potential WR1 abilities. I think the Bills need someone capable of replacing Diggs in 2-3 years.

And that’s where the problem is. So we don’t really want to pay a WR2. We want a player that will be WR1 after 3 years. The problem with those players is they’ll cost north of 20 million after 3 years. Davis will cost 12-15 million.

He’s actually a perfect WR2 if we look at him as a WR2. I compare him to top WR2’s but those guys are actually WR1’s, Waddle and Higgins for example. Then there’s young WRs on rookie deals with WR1 potential. Davis is a WR2. He blocks and puts up 50-60 catches 900 yards and 8 TDs. That’s a WR2. The question is can we easily replace him? The one thing he does do very well is score TDs. That would be the hardest part to replace.
