The funny part is there were a bunch of fans on here who wanted to re-sign him even if it took $24M/yr. I argued against those people that I wouldn’t re-sign him for more than $18M AAV. When I saw it was $19M, I could live with that, but in no universe was I okay with Greg Rousseau being north of $20M AAV. He’s the DE equivalent of Ed Oliver, but with less dominant games.

I do think if a team was allowed to have an entire draft class from which to pick and choose, the rookies would be good enough to beat a bottom 5 NFL roster. I don’t think such a team would beat the upper echelon teams though, but that’s a far more interesting topic.

Here’s the gist of it all and what can’t be disputed: coming off last season, the Bills believed in Ty Johnson in his speciality role (as well as the rest of the RBs) and weren’t entertaining the idea of selecting another RB in the top 100 picks. It didn’t make sense. Skattebo could’ve easily been Zach Moss 2.0 while Landon Jackson turned into Maxx Crosby 2.0. Nobody knows. If GMs thought Skattebo would be as productive as he currently is, he would’ve went earlier than the fourth round, pick 105, the seventh RB taken. These GMs are clearly not as smart as you, he who knows all. The Bills had much more pressing needs at the time, which seems to be too tough of a concept for you to understand. Once again, when you’re entrusted with a billion dollar franchise you’re more than welcome to make all the goofy decisions you want, until the team gives you your walking papers. You could also infiltrate the media and ask Brandon Beane why he failed to see what was so obvious to your eyes. Until then, feel free to continue to sit back and arm chair critique those who do what you only wish you could.

It isn’t even his speed, this board obsesses about that too much. There have been plenty of receivers at or around his 4.61 forty time, including Davante Adams (4.57), that know how to get open. It’s body language, head fakes, the nuance in his route running that he’s missing, which is a bit odd coming from a player with a basketball background.

You do realize there’s a host of players that can get the ball on third down, right? The question you’re asking is dumb. A third down back doesn’t equate to “must get the ball,” but you know this. Or maybe I’m giving you too much credit. If the play is a run, then yes, Johnson is most likely to get the ball. Not always, but most likely. If it’s a pass it can go to any number of players - Shakir, or Coleman, or Palmer, or Knox, or Kincaid, or Hawes, or Moore, or Samuel, or Johnson, or Josh on a keeper. Wise up. And the media is pressing McD about why Cook isn’t in on third downs because Brady, his offensive coordinator, values Ty Johnson that much! We’ll see how much that changes going forward, but the answer to your question was obvious. Let that sink in for a minute - Cook is a budding superstar, yet his offensive staff would rather have Johnson on the field on 3rd downs. Says a lot about what they think of Johnson, further cementing the fact they weren’t trading him to select an unproven commodity at RB with a top 100 pick. That was and continues to be a silly “argument,” fraught with more holes than the Bills defense.

From the offensive coaches all the way to the QB, they obviously feel Ty Johnson is the best option to play on 3rd downs. I don’t understand why you’re not getting that. It’s not my decision, its not your decision, it’s not even Ty’s decision, it’s the coaches. Hence why he plays the highest percentage of 3rd down snaps.

It’s not my “argument” you’re calling weightless, it’s the coaching staff’s decision. I’m only pointing out the obvious to you - they value Ty Johnson. Forget touches, what is his percentage of 3rd down snaps versus the other two backs? Case closed. He’s the Bills third down back until he’s not. When someone trusts you enough to run an NFL team you’re more than welcome to make all the goofy decisions you want until you’re fired. Until then, sit back and continue to arm chair critique.
