The problem with some people bashing Guy on his FA track record is that a lot of us do not know the specific purpose the Bills had in mind for certain players. Sure, Guy made some mistakes. But too many people scream "bust" when a FA signee doesnt become a pro-bowler or superstar. But what if the Bills didnt expect them to be a star, rather just a role player? I fully believe that players such as tripplett, bowen, royal, and price were brought in for a few reasons, and NONE of them was that they were expected to star. That is simply the fans' point of view. We brought those guys in to fill some holes in the short term (2-3 years) while we acquired some talent. Let those guys plug the holes, they'll do ok, and if they pan out, great, if they dont, oh well. All of those signings were low-risk signings that cost us little against the cap.

Garrard signs seven-year, $60 million contract with Jags
Ramius replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If Garrard stays healthy and plays THAT well over a full season, i'll give him his props and say he was worth the 60 mil. But currently, he's not worth 60 mil to me. I simply dont trust him to actually go out and win a game. He can not lose it, and he fits jacksonville's system excellently. But he's not worth 60 million. -
Malcolm Kelly on Sirius this morning
Ramius replied to 1billsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The teams have their boards set. Its the idiots, errr, experts, that keep changing their boards in such a crazy fashion. Bill Polian said a few weeks ago that the combine and the numbers players put up during their pro day have little effect on a players position on the draft board. Maybe a few spots, but thats it. He basically laughed at all the "experts" that have players rising or dropping by more than a round due to the numbers. -
Garrard signs seven-year, $60 million contract with Jags
Ramius replied to BillsWatch's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Garrard will lead them to the playoffs by simply handing off to Jones Drew/Taylor and not throwing INTs. Thats a game manager. -
From the stuff i PMed you (before the board crashed) he was initially an OG, but injuries forced him to the defensive side of the ball @ DT. Lemme see if i can get a hold of my old roommate from Clarkson, whos down there. He was the one that initially mentioned Tula, but i havent emailed him in a couple of months. Everything i have heard leads me to believe that Tula could get picked in the 5th-6th round as a project. However, i wouldnt half mind seeing the Bills take a flier on him with the compensatory 4th rounder. EDIT: if i can find the profile on him, and/or if i hear from the roomie, i'll PM you

Thats a lot of cash for a game manager QB. -
I'm not against taking a DE in round 1, but something's gotta be done about the offense at some point. Holding the pats* to 27 instead of 50 is great, but doesnt matter if we're still only scoring 13 ppg.

Annual 3 round TBD Mock draft - ***STARTS MONDAY***
Ramius replied to Ramius's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thats not the official draft order, its just the sign up list. I'll add in Dallas's second pick when we actually draft. -
Mods, if you could keep this thread here on the main board, it would be appreciated. The draft will occur over on the college football board. I guess i'll start up the annual TBD 3 round mock draft. Rules are simple. Sign up for a team here, and you draft their players. The Bills will make their selection based off of a TBD vote when their turn comes up. Trading is allowed between owners, including players and draft picks. Ideally, we can get all the sign-ups completed this week, and we can start the draft next monday/tuesday. If we dont get enough owners to sign up by thursday, on friday, i'll allow posters to take a second team if they'd like. So if you want in, sign your name and the team you'd like to control. Here's the 1st round order of picks. I'll take the Buccs. 1. Miami - Juan Guzman 2. St. Louis - K-Gun10 3. Atlanta - LynchMob23 4. Oakland - FutureBillsGM 5. Kansas City - Hamdan's Revenge 6. New York Jets - Bill from NYC 7. pats* - turftoe 8. Baltimore - buffalo782 9. Cincinnatti - Stewy23 10. New Orleans - ans4e64 11. Buffalo - TBD vote for each selection 12. Denver - boomerjamhead 13. Carolina - Ray Finkle 14.Chicago - In space no one can hear 15. Detroit - MattyT 16. Arizona - SACTOBILLSFAN 17. Minnesota - Buffalo Billiever 18. Houston - BlueFire 19. Philly - Huuuuge Bills 20. Tampa Bay - Ramius 21. Washington - Astrobot 22. Dallas - BillsfaninTexas 23. Pittsburgh - R. Rich? 24. Tennessee - mis3384 25. Seattle - DANCOCK 26. Jacksonville - Steely Dan 27. San Diego - SABURZFAN 28 . San Fran - RobJohnson4life 29. Green Bay - CarolinaBills 30. New York Giants - HIGH MOTOR Teams w/out a 1st round pick Indy - BB204 Cleveland - *** ***I see no need to assign Cleveland an owner, as they do not draft until the 4th round. However, if someone wants to take over Cleveland and trade some of their players away (ie-Quinn or Anderson) for a pick(s), they are more than welcome to.

You want to start? You can on the Machu Picchu Bulldogs owned by yours truly. -
Ummm, April Fools day was last week, buddy.

Besides "reach", the biggest problem i have with the fans and the draft, is how some fans complain our draft sucked because we drafted position X at spot Y. Nevermind how good the player turns out to be, they think our draft was a disaster because we took a specific position. That screams of a personal agenda, with little regard to actual football analysis and knowledge.
-
I agree with DrDank on the concept of a reach. I stated it a couple of days ago, but "reach" and "value" are idiot terms made up by draftniks so they can put the blame for their incorrect analysis (of a player) on the team that chose him. A good example is winston justice form 2006. All the draftniks were calling him a great OT, while obviously no team thought he was worth a first round pick. The "experts" called him a great value for the Eagles, because they got "1st round value" in round 2, when in reality, Justice thusfar has proven to not be anything near a "1st round value". So the NFL was right, and the experts were wrong, as usual. Also regarding "reaches," a lot depends on how the team ranks a player, and more importantly, the talent dropoff at the given position compared to another. Heres an example. My team is looking at drafting an LB or a CB. The top CB left on our board we have rated a 90, and the top LB is rated an 84. Overall, there are roughly 10-12 other players rated higher than the LB on the draft board. But, taking a look at the draft, we have 4 other CB's, rated 87, 85, 81, and 79. The next highest rated LB is a 66. I'm taking the LB, because i know a can get a CB later on in the draft, and because the dropoff is so much less at CB than it is at LB. Sure, technically i "reached" for a "lesser" LB, but in the end, i still got a good LB and a good CB in the next round. I think there are a lot of teams that go into the draft with this method.
