Also I don't think there is any mention of the fact that the Jets' speciality has always been their ability to pull their guards and especially their center Mawae to block downfield in the running game, and that they've had a very, very difficult time doing that so far this year. Something is wrong with Mawae - he's either injured, or his age has finally caught up to him. Kendall has been a disappointment. As a result, they're using more zone-blocking this year, and CuMar hasn't been as effective under that scheme. This just isn't the same Jets offense we've seen in the past - for whatever reason, it's less physical and less athletic.

sounds like a dreaded villareal infection to me.

In last year's first game against the Jets (in NY), Jennings put out one of the worst performances I've ever seen by a LT - Abraham absolutely abused him. I'm curious to see how Gandy performs against Abraham on Sunday, after a somewhat inconsisten performance against Jason Taylor. That is perhaps the most important matchup in the game.

What about Belicheck, who couldn't wait to get rid of Drew? I just have my doubts - I could be wrong, but we'll see. I will admit that our o-line sucks ass, but Drew's problem last year was his decision making (specifically in the Pittsburgh game), and it was the same problem he had in New England in big games (esp. on the road). As many New England fans have told me - it was amazing how all of a sudden New England's o-line was incredible as soon as Drew was gone.

You really think this is a bad thing? Why would anyone want Shockey at that price? The guy is always hurt, complains a ton, and is inconsistent when he's on the field (drops passes at key points in key games). He had one good year - his first one. That's exactly the kind of player you DON'T want to lock up long-term.

All of you wait - I don't care what Bledsoe or his line is doing now. Let's see how he does outdoors in November and December (and January, if they make it).

"We announce today that the offensive line is playing at its highest level since Muhammed traveled to the Mountain. Last Sunday they slaughtered the Miami dogs in a courageous act of jihad."
"We also announce that we still have not decided who our starting quarterback will be this Sunday. Why would we give you a tactical advantage, you worthless infidels? You will just have to wait and see."

Actually this makes me concerned that Villareal may be more "injured" or whatever than they've let on...

We are going to SLAUGHTER the Jets.
Then lose our next 4-5, pull Holcomb, call it a season, let JP cut his teeth without the pressure of having to make the playoffs.
In the process, this Board will continue to call for TD's firing, Moulds' benching, trading JP for Jonathan Ogden, and the scouting of sumo wrestlers to play o-line. D_Wag will claim to have been right all along 1,304 times. Alaska Darin will resign as self-appointed TSW sheriff, citing an inability to reign in the post-Katrina-like lawlessness that takes over the Board. B_Harami will surface again and claim that the Bills' failure was the Will of Allah in punishment for his banishment from TSW.

Anyone else think that the new rules - combined with HD televisions - are gonna save the sport?
Also, anyone else ALREADY sick of Crosby? He's getting the Brett Favre worship-treatment from the media, and it's nauseating.

We blitz 85% nomatter who the QB is.

Everybody wants to win. Those of us who want to see Losman take his lumps now just don't believe that this is a playoff contender even with Holcomb at the helm. The game yesterday illustrated this point perfectly. That being said, I hope the Bills prove me wrong and get into the postseason.
That is why, most likely, JP will be put back in there once Holcomb and the Bills lose themselves out of contention (which may happen as early as the bye week, if they lose 3 straight). In the meantime, MM had to prove to his vets that he was doing what it took to win.

If you want to lament the horrid play of a Bills OTackle, you need go no farther than the atrocious outing from Greg Jerman. He completely stunk it up just like he's done every time I've seen him on the field since the Bills made the mistake of bringing him in. The fact that he's on an NFL roster is shocking to me, but the fact that he is Mike Williams' primary back-up is simply horrifying.
Can you imagine how awful MacFarland must be???

The change was made to appease old veterans like Eric Moulds... EM and
JPL never got on the same page...and also JP might have been looking for
Evans more often.....Moulds is used to being the one looked on by Bledsoe
and Flutie before him....so he bitched about it....and JP also did not do enough
to put the ball in Evans hands to justify the move.
It wasn't just Moulds. He's just the one who spoke to the media. This move was made because Mularkey was at a pivotal point in his CAREER this week - he faced losing his first team. This cannot be understated - the vets wanted Mularkey to make this change, and he had no real choice. He doesn't have the credibility of Parcells or Belicheck where he could just ignore his vets. This is an older team that was in contention last year, and MM had to go with his players' wishes here. It's the smart play.

You mean the QB does more than pass?????

i read somewhere that villarial has some intestinal tract infection of some sort. so i think he'll be out for another week or so. Itula Milli, TE of the seahawks had something similar in the beginning of the season. and as someone else posted earlier here, that may be the reason why villarial was "winded" as mularkey put it.
Oh no!!! Not a villareal infection!

Think of it, we had only one guy on the line Sunday who started for us last year.
Essentially, we had a Bears cast off, a Jags cast off, Teague, a rookie and a nobody manning the fort on Sunday. At that, we still managed to pull off a win with, admittedly, plenty of help from the fins. Hard to hold on to the ball with flippers I guess.
What pisses me off, though, is that the 'Phins' o-line essentially is in the same shape as ours, and yet they managed to pick up our constant blitzing and give Ferotte time to throw (why Gray insisted on sticking with the blitz, which obviously wasn't working and allowed the Dolphins to score quickly, is another frustrating organizational mystery). Yet, our line couldn't stop a 4-man rush, let alone any kind of stunt or blitz in the second half yesterday.
And, I'm tired of the excuses. Every team suffers injuries at o-line. Look what the Packers' second and third-string linemen did to the Saints' front seven yesterday - the same front seven that gave our first-stringers fits. That's the best Jerman could play against the team that cut him? CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW BAD MACFARLAND MUST BE!?
I'm going to have to point the finger at coaching this time - there is no reason why the protection continually fails, and technique remains so sloppy. We can't play out of two tight end sets like other teams?? We can't coordinate between our backs and linemen to pick up blitzers? Our tackles can't shuffle sideways quickly enough to stop ANY defensive linemen on ANY teams?
Why do other teams do this stuff with such ease? It can't just be differences in talent. I refuse to believe that every other team's rookie 6th-round pick is better than our heralded free agent veterans. Someone or some folks aren't doing their jobs, and if I had to guess, I'm going to point to, in this order: Tom Clements, Jim McNally, whoever the hell our RB coach is, and Donahoe. I'm tired of seeing such a mess out there - get it together, get everyone on the same page, or get out of town.
-
The o-line is horrid - Jerman doesn't deserve to be in the League. Can't believe he was our backup plan at RT.
That being said, Miami's o-line doesn't have any more talent. I think I hate to say it but,
McNally is overrated.

The funniest part is that he used like 5 smiley faces to make a point...
Ransom observations on the game

My observations:
1) Holcomb excels at one thing in particular: getting rid of the ball quickly. He gets rid of the ball faster than any Bills QB in recent memory, including Jimbo. This is a HUGE factor in our success the last two weeks, especially on third down, where Holcomb really excels. IMO the biggest difference between JP's play and Kelly's play is on third down, where Holcomb seems to know exactly where to go and he goes there quickly (I HAVE to think that those slants to Moulds were there for JP, but he just couldn't make them happen).
2) Willis looked the best I've seen him since his U of M days. I'll leave it at that.
3) FYI, here's what happened on Martin's 2 long runs: on the first one, Anderson lost his balance, and was quickly escorted to the turf by (I think) Kendall. I didn't think Anderson played poorly - but does anyone else think that Bannan is outplaying him right now? On the second one, Crowell overran his assignment and was sealed off. He made up for it on the next play. These kinds of things are going to happen in Gray's defense - one guy misses an assignment and you're gonna give up a long run. This isn't something that's new - it's happened once or twice a game for every game Gray's been here - save a few games last season.
4) Josh Reed made some amazing blocks yesterday
5) Can't wait to see Parrish and Everett in this offense
6) Was someone giving Adams the snap count in advance? Don't expect him to be able to do that stuff on the road
7) People rightly criticize KH for his bonehead interception inside his 20 - but let's face it, Jimbo did that once a game - I can live with it
8) Gray must've told Eric King to get in Chrebet's head early and often - and it worked. Whatever the kid did, he totally distracted Chrebet and pissed him off - good to see
9) Finally, Clements called a better game, but why, oh why, does he have to be too clever by half? 3rd and less than 1 in the red zone, RUN THE DAMN BALL. So many bad things could've happened on that stupid pass to Shelton - his dropping the ball was actually the best result we could've hoped for on that play (I was worried he'd catch it and get hit right away, fumbling).
