Go see "Grizzly Man" - one of the best movies I've EVER seen.
-
I still don't get this thread/thinking! Before the Bills played a down against an opponent, everyone, the JP non-lovers included, were saying that they hoped he kept the mistakes (i.e. turnovers) to a minimum. Well that's what he's BEEN doing! But now that he's shown a penchant for not turning the ball over, it's "he needs to pass it deeper" or "he needs to stay in the pocket because he COULD get hurt." I don't know, I guess I'll take that as a sign that people are expecting more out of JP because of what he's shown, and that's a good thing.
Isn't the answer, BOTH? He has to keep his mistakes to a minimum, and he also has to spread out the D a bit by looking downfield. The two things are not exclusive of each other.

sit back down on your coach.
Um... not this one though, please. Fragile, I'm afraid.

There is something to all of this. Losman averaged 4.5 yards per pass play against GB. I'm not sure he's going through all of his downfield reads - either that, or perhaps they've shortened up the field for him. What he does do, however, is force the defense to adjust how it plays - specifically, how it passrushes, and where it positions its linebackers (i.e., a "spy" likely is needed somewhere in the front 7). This is important - with Holcomb/Bledsoe, the d-line could just tee off and free up the rest of the D.
We'll see after the first few games of the regular season whether JP will be able to remain patient through his reads and complete passes downfield. Overall, at this stage, I'd say he's produced mixed results - yes he's mobile, and yes he's put points on the board, but defenses will be able to load up the box if he doesn't start looking downfield more often.

Good analysis. One point in particular interests me: it seems to be universally accepted that Geisenger was a bust pick, at least in terms of contributing within the next year or two. If that's the case, it's a real shame - wasn't he heralded as one of the best pulling guards in the country? I was excited by his potential. Too bad.

I agree with Kelly the Dog - Haddad makes it.
Wow, our practice squad could beat the Browns!
I'm not joking.
-
Also don't forget ECONOMICS. Reed makes what, five times what Haddad would make next year? Last or second-to-last year of his second-round pick deal? Cut his a$$, keep two guys around to replace him (Haddad and Wilson), and you'll still have money left over.
Reed lacks confidence - to the point where he actively admits it to anyone who asks. There is nothing more dangerous or pathetic than an NFL player who lacks confidence.
Buh-bye.

Let's see, what would the two best teams in the League do? Philly and New England wouldn't shell out the $$ that Nate wants (i.e., more than any other CB in the League, or near that). Both of those teams drafted young CBs in anticipation of letting their stars walk (Vincent, Taylor, Law).
Nate is a stud - he's young, talented, one of the top playmakers in the League. Unfortunately, he's replaceable with some young, aggressive playmakers (King, Greer, McGee, next year's #1 pick), and more of a passrush. I'd rather spend the money on other places - like, say, 4 or 5 positions (McGahee, Kelsay extensions; o-line).
I say he walks.
-
He played as much as he did because he's our backup left tackle. If Gandy goes down, Peters goes in.
WHOA.
Don't think I've realized that until now.
Better get him ready, Mouse.

preseason.

Sounds like our D is playing like it did against Pittsburgh last year...
-
That's a better suggestion than mine - because it's free. Damn.
-
Click on the Buffalo radio broadcast - you'll need to create an account with Realplayer - BUT, you can get a free 7-day trial (I bought the season package for $29.95, what the hell).
Enjoy the game.

Sorry I'm late to ask this - does anyone know if the game will be telecast live nationally, on DirecTV or anything? I understand it won't be on the NFL Network. I'm in NYC, would love to see the game. Thanks!
-
I agree - he plays the one position where you really don't need too much preseason work. I say rest him completely - one or two series at most, if you're gonna play him at all.
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they blitz on that Jacksonville play when Smith caught that deep bomb on 4th down? I don't think they were in prevent-mode on that play... just sayin'...
-
Thank you for starting a thread about this - it needs to be addressed. What a bunch of losers they sound like. Can you imagine if that was your squad, and your vets and coaches were crying to the media about how they weren't ready to handle another NFL defense? It's really, really pathetic - I'll say it: with the exception of the Eagles, the NFC is SOFT.
-
This thread absolutely sucks. The jokes aren't even funny.

I just wanna say, God I love our defense. I love every single article that talks about their desire and intensity (like today's BN article about Kelsay).
Take a step back.
Remember where we were in 2001? Possibly the worst D the Bills have had in the last 15 years. That's not Buffalo, not the Bills - give me a championship D over a high-powered O any day. Nothing riles up the Ralph like a killer, intense defense - and, thanks to Donahoe and his cronies, we have the most exciting defense I've ever seen up-close. Don't get me wrong - I loved watching Bruuuuuce, Art Still and Bennett flying around, but this defense ATTACKS. It's solid in EVERY SINGLE AREA. And, best of all, it's HUNGRY. If we don't win a Superbowl in the next few years, it won't be our D's fault.
Take a step back.
Enjoy the moment - these things are rare. We are witnessing dominance - players who know they're the best, play like it, and relish every moment of it. We may never see it again - ever. Championships are elusive - near-impossible. At the very least, nomatter what happens, I'll be fired up to watch our D swarm every Sunday.

He can take #82 once the season starts.
-
Hmm. Please name ONE example. They paid Spikes like he was one of the best LBs, Malloy like he was one of the best SSs, Moulds like a top WR.
In fact, you could hardly be more wrong.

ESPN, for all you socialists, is a lesson in what happens when you don't have competition. Stuff starts to suck.
Did Bledsoe do anything yesterday?

Actually - yes. Here's a picture similar to what his day consisted of:
