1. Yeah but if Bledsoe hadn't muffed that punt return or missed the Field Goal attempt, or maybe if he'd simply picked up those blitzes himself.............

    191610

Actually, on the sack-fumble-INT-TD play (should we just start labeling such a play, a "Bledsoe Special"?), it WAS Drew's job to pick up that blitz. There were two blitzers on that play, and McGahee did the right thing in picking up the inside guy. Coughclough (or whatever) came on a delayed blitz, but had Drew EVEN BOTHERED TO LOOK TO HIS RIGHT BEFORE THE SNAP, he would've spotted him coming, stepped up in the pocket, and had a chance to at least throw a pick downfield...

No one here is saying the D/ST were at their best yesterday, but WHEN, oh WHEN, is Drew gonna bail out the other parts of the team, like any half-decent QB does from time to time??

  2. Here's the headline we DIDN'T see this morning, or any other time this year (except maybe the game in Miami):

"Remarkable Performance by Bledsoe Bails Out Off-Day for Bills' D, Special Teams."

Contrast that with the headlines we DID see all season:

"Bills D, Special Teams and Willis Dominate, Despite Mediocre Day by Drew."

The guy NEVER bails out the rest of the team - in fact, they're usually bailing him out. It's a miracle we ended up 9-7 with him at the helm.

  3. I said in a thread yesterday that I assumed the coaches called deep routes, but that the line didn't give them time to execute those plays. Well, looks like I was wrong - looks like the Bills actually went into yesterday's game with a gameplan of SHORT PASSES. Against backup cornerbacks and linebackers. Without any quality TEs or slot receivers on the roster. With 1/2 of one guard on the starting o-line. With Drew's lack of touch or accuracy on short routes. With Lee Evans able to beat one-on-one any of the Steelers's CBs deep.

    Pathetic.

Notre Dame made the right decision.

  4. Woke up this morning, feel like I've been kicked in the groin. Here's what I can't stand about Bledsoe: I can live with (since Donahoe appears to want to make me)the happy feet, the lack of touch or accuracy on the short throws, the boneheaded decisions, the "aw, shucks" grimacing, and even the stupid sacks (how do you not look at the right side ONCE to see whether the CB is blitzing? you're an eleven-year vet or whatever - fug). But, why is it that when Drew gets hit, the ball FLIES OUT? Come on you fuggin ****! Protect the ball - it's your job. You're paid millions. You have a whole team depending on you - just protect the ball. FUG! And it happens repeatedly! It turned the first New England game, too. It's just inexecusable - that alone should warrant his benching next year. That alone.

(sorry for the expletives. I'm angry.)

  5. I'll tell you what happened - Pat Williams decided to freelance on that play for some reason. He abandoned his gap and ran around the other d-tackle as if it were a stunt, but the other d-tackle didn't criss-cross like he would if it were a stunt. Instead, Parker just ran right thru the hole that Williams vacated. If I had to guess, I'd say Patty was excited that St. Pierre was in there and wanted to get a big-play sack.

  6. It was a BS call on Reed. Reed just touched the defender and a flag was thrown. There was no interference.

:I starred in Brokeback Mountain:  the official for that call

    189455

It WAS a penalty - a stupid, useless one at that. It just isn't called all of the time. Reed is a fat toad and should be cut. Tomorrow.

  7. If today was one thing, it was a microcosm of much of the season - esp. the early part of the season. I think we'd all agree that we lost today because of the same weaknesses we all have been aware of, and worried about. Putting aside some weird freelancing by the d-line which resulted in giving up some big chunks of yardage on the ground, I think this loss really came down to a few simple concepts.

First off, obviously, Bledsoe has taken too many hits in his career. IT'S OBVIOUS. When does he struggle? Against teams that pressure consistently up the middle. Watching him today, you just could tell he was nervous as hell out there. He threw a ton of passes too early, falling backwards, shying away from the often phantom rush. There are a few things you can do to remedy this sort of problem, should you choose to do so (personally I would choose to just cut bait, move on, and stop trying to hinge an entire franchise/city's hopes on one washed up headcase):

    1) beef up the interior o-line to prevent the bullrush

    2) give him lots of options over the middle of the field where the blitzes are coming from - as in a capable TE, slot receiver, backs slipping out to catch passes, etc.

    3) throw long early and often to loosen up the D

For whatever reason, NONE of these things were done today. Number (1) is really more of a personnel issue, and I'm sure it's priority #1 for Donahoe this offseason. Our guard play was TERRIBLE today. Tucker got bowled over multiple times, and when Villareal left, it was just a massacre in the trenches. This should've been addressed last offseason - you just don't protect a shellshocked QB like Bledsoe with inferior guards. You can bet, also, that this weakness would have been exploited fatally in the playoffs. There is no way this interior line would've stood up on the road against heavy blitzing by Belicheck's or even Wade's squads. No way.

Number 2 above is combined personnel/coaching. People have been saying for weeks here that we need a solid TE and they're right - how do you not give a guy like Bledsoe a go-to TE, or at least a solid slot receiver? It's just baffling. Clearly, Josh Reed isn't the answer, either - what a disgrace. A total bust. There is NOTHING over the middle in this offense, which just exacerbates Bledsoe's weaknesses.

As for the third one, I just have to think that the coaches called deep routes that the line's poor protection prevented the offense from executing. Anyway, it's not as important as 1 or 2 - you don't need to throw long if you have the right personnel to win with a short passing attack. For example, Pittsburgh won today without throwing long.

Finally, it's also obvious that Lindell is a liability. What irks me about it is that he's also overpaid - which means Donahoe is unlikely to admit that he's a problem. But, those of us who've watched this year know that his stats are misleading - he misses some really easy kicks, and the coaches have shown that they aren't sold on him by vastly limiting the opportunities he's given, more often electing to punt than go for a 46+ fieldgoal. Obviously, Donahoe understands the importance of special teams, so why he would neglect the one aspect of special teams that has the opportunity to produce points is beyond me. We all knew Lindell was gonna cost us a game or two sometime, let's be honest - no one here is surprised.

  8. That penalty, along with the missed field goal and 58-yard run, changed everything. But it all started with Josh's penalty.

    189407

THANK YOU. I've been saying the same thing - that play was a disaster. That guy just sucks. He does nothing. He drops a ball once a game (today included), has no confidence, no sense of urgency, has made no progress, never comes through with a big play, gets no RAC (which he was known for in college), and sounds idiotic interviews. Mike Williams has gotten the "bust" label around here, but it's Josh Reed who is the real "bust" story on this team. It'll be a miracle if he's even on the roster next year.

Oh, and I despise him. Today.

  9. Geezus, grow up!

When he left the game, we had the win in the bag!  Fruitie had a habit of not being able to put up 17 points consistently all year and you wanted him to start?

At least I'm objective and give 90% credit to the defense that carried us all year!

    181472

Actually I wanted Van Pelt to start. Now go away.

  10. Manning was interviewed at halftime tonight. He said the team is fired up for this week's game against the Broncos, because they want to end the season on a high note and get Dungy his record 13th win. He said they learned their lesson AGAINST BUFFALO A FEW YEARS BACK, when they came into Buffalo with nothing to play for, got embarassed, and lost in the first round. He said they won't let that happen again.

THAT WAS ALSO THE "ROB JOHNSON GAME." The famous thrashing of the Colts when Iron Rob looked like, um, Peyton Manning, enough so that Wade "Charlie Brown Sweater, No Headset" Phillips annointed him the starter against Tennessee, andwellyouknowtherest!@#$.

Anyway - perhaps, just perhaps, that was all part of the Divine Plan. Ole' Iron Rob comes thru in the clutch afterall, God willing.

    (Go Bills.)

  11. If there is a player, in the Lee Evans category, that the Bills brass really, really likes, and his draft status is a mid to late first rounder, like Evans was, I could see the Bills trading our #2 and Henry for a team's #1. That would be a pretty good trade, I think, for another team who needs a RB, also. They would be getting Henry and two #2's, plus saving a little cash for not having to sign a #1.

That said, I still think we keep Henry for this next season. He is too good, too cheap, and a good #2 running back is too valuable to trade him for virtually nothing (meaning a #4 pick in the draft).

    181129

    How about an impact TE?

  12. By that time, we'll Know. The Bills and Jets will have finished their games. The first quarter of the Broncos-Colts game will be wrapping up, and we'll Know. The first quarter of that game should tell us everything - whether the Colts' starters are playing, whether they're playing vanilla-scheme to keep their plays under wraps, whether the Broncos really want it, whether The Good Plummer or the Toilet Plummer is in...

Whatever happens, thanks fellow Wallers, thanks Bills Ballers, and thanks TD, RW and everyone at One Bills Drive for a great, exciting, prideful season.

    Coach.

  13. Indy lays up against Denver...Then they play Denver round 1....

    Play Denver or play Buffalo....?

    Make your choice Dungy...

    179847

Let's not flatter ourselves too much. I agree Buffalo has been more consistent lately and we've got the better D, but, if I'm Indy, I'm even more concerned about a team that can run the ball better than anyone and therefore keep the ball out of Payton's hands. I'm not so sure they'd rather play Denver.

  14. In three words or less, he describes himself as “wild.”

    172717

At least we know he can count to three! Listen, I've heard all of these things about him, but I've also heard some interviews with him and he ain't as dumb as he's made out to be. Just let him go out 3 yds (he can count to that), turn around, and wait for the ball. Then he just has to know which direction to go in, I doubt anyone will tackle him on his way to the endzone.
