The House passed the Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act of 2010 (HR 3808) and it was rushed through the Senate. The practical effect of this is outlined by Denninger.... Basically, this boils down to letting the banks could avoid suit from homeowners in foreclosure for shoddy documents and investors for being sold shoddy paper as MBS and MBS trust certificates. The trail is fairly complicated, but the point is that this would have made the shoddiest paper acceptable in all 50 states as long as the notarization was good in one of the states (of course, the one with the lowest standards). Going forward, it would have absolved paperwork mistakes at the banks and made it almost impossible to buy a home with clear title. Good for Obama...can't believe I just typed that!

People need to understand that actions (and the failure to act) have consequences. Don't pay the fee...take your chances. The FD was just following city orders. If they did not like the policy, vote to change it. Otherwise, it is in your best interests to pay the (reasonable $75 annual) fee for fire protection. Don't whine about it now....next time you'll pay the fee.

Define "need." I have an 05 Wrangler that I absoluetly love and will likely never sell or trade. Never had a problem. Change the oil every 3-4k (even though its synthetic) and rotate the tires every 5k. Do I need a Wrangler...tough question. I don't drive to work, I take a train. However, my non-work activities include a heavy dose of skiing, beachgoing (meaning driving on the sand dunes) and the occasional off-road adventure...perfect activities for a Wrangler.

Lovin it! If you are going to argue that the mosque has a right to exist in that spot (which I personally have no issue with), then so does the gay bar, the BBQ pork place, the strip club and the rub 'n' tug that will also be on the block. Private property and land use right for everyone. Can't argue freedom and property rights without applying that same freedom to everyone.
