Still, the Bengals never controlled their destiny in that scenario. It would have still been dependent on the Chiefs. On the other hand, the Bills could very well end the season having been the #1 seed for the last month of the season, won every game they played, and still finish as the #2 seed and miss out on the bye. The only carrot they are offered is, you don't have to go to KC for the n-teenth time in a row in the playoffs. But KC still gets to rest up on the bye week, and still doesn't have to play an away playoff game for the first time in the Mahomes era. The Bills control of their own destiny was taken and given to KC as a result of the cancellation. The Bills did everything they could possibly be expected to do to secure the bye and home field, but are denied the reward, which is now gifted to the Chiefs like another one of those convenient flags on marginal plays at critical times. That's gotta be as harsh as anything Cinci is arguing IMO.

The Chiefs were always bound to be the only team to tangibly benefit, gaining a clear path to the biggest advantage offered in this goofball 7-team playoff format - the only bye in the conference. I thought, perhaps with that being an biggest carrot, the league might open up an 8th entry to mitigate it, but hahah what was I thinking.

What Bengals & Chiefs fans are saying about the situation:

Saw similar from Patriots regarding Hamlin's ejection for the hit on Meyers. -
Has Taron Johnson injury severity been diagnosed?
Ralonzo replied to Chandler#81's topic in The Stadium Wall
I mean at least that resembled a football play in a Lee Smith sort of way. Hendrickson was extra-curricular and of no purpose other than attempt to injure. -

You could say that. -
Playoff Solutions Assuming they don’t replay the Bengals game.

I don't mean this to sound callous but the world can't stop because this happened. Millions of people are affected in ways from hugely important (family, teammates) to important (NFL employees, travel agencies and lodging) to trivial (you need 9 points from Allen for a championship). All best wishes and prayers to Damar Hamlin but there is absolutely nothing anyone outside that hospital can do for him right now. People need to do what humans have done since the dawn of the species; life will go on. So then. If the game isn't completed, no team in the AFC should earn a bye. Add one wild card team. Of course KC likely gets home field again without actually earning it. If the NFL wanted anything else then they don't throw that flag on Sutton. Fantasy managers, you're all screwed, unless the stats from next week's games are used or unless you're allowed to replace from the bench ex-post facto. There's no fair solution there either. -

I dunno man. If the Bills are up 31-3 at the half, I'll still be nervous. -

The Phins; from 8-3 to 8-8. An epic collapse

Yeah I probably do. Watched too much hockey in years gone by apparently. -

Doug Crossman? That Doug Crossman? It would explain some things about Special Teams. -
it's not just like the old Patriots where they commit penalties all over the field and never get called, the Chiefs also get calls against the other team that aren't actually committed. The NFL treats the Chiefs like Lil Bessie treats Levon Helm.

Rex Ryan attempted to trade EJ Manuel for Geno Smith in 2016(article)
Ralonzo replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall
Manuel had physical talent. He could throw the JA17 patented deep over 25 yards downfield outside the numbers. The problem was he could only do it in preseason against basic defenses. He got confused and rattled awfully easily, just couldn't make the reads or process the game fast enough.
