I will probably be a huge minority on this but the statements in bold are where I disagree the most. Johnson did this celebration as retaliation for the last Jets game? If this is true then he is even more immature than I previously thought and I actually feel bad for those of you that think this is a good thing. I don't care if the Jets mocked us in the first game. Yes, that was bad sportmanship but we played like weaklings on home field and they backed it up. A 25 year old man still learning grade school life lessons is a sad thing. Whatever happened to beat them on the field with your play? Win the game and say nothing ... that is the best way to make noise. Flame away.

Stevie had a good game going the best Cornerback in the league. How much time does it to learn sportsmanship, humility, common sense, and team play? In Stevies case the answer is more than 25 years.

Revis gives up 75 yards and his first TD of the SEASON and he is "lit up". WOW. All you proved is how good Revis really is.

Jerry Sullivan - Show Stevie The Money
Bob in STL replied to BuffaloBillsForever's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Could it be that he is viewed as a flamboyant showboat that gets himself into trouble without even trying. -
I hope he is wrong. That would be a mistake and create another huge whole. Right now we have major needs for a pass rusher DE/OLB, offensive tackle, a corner, another WR to compliment what we have, and more quality at OLB. Add to that if we have a shot at a franchise QB then we take him. I do not like Johnson's showboating and his tweeting, my previous posts make that clear. I do however like Johnson as a player. Right now we have only two recievers on this team worthy of starting in the NFL. We have Johnson and we have Nelson. Caveat that Nelson is a #3 slot receiever. We need to sign Stevie and also sign or draft another top threat. And lets stop talking about #1 and #2 recievers. Most team have two equivalent capable recievers, unless they are lucky enough to have a Pro Bowl guy that is clearly one of the best (Johnson in Detriot for example). We should be able to sign him for a reasonable contract. The league is going to fine him or suspend him. That should get his attention.

Yes, I may be clinically insane.

It is mathematically possible. -
If he makes that catch and does not score we now have TD options for big tall targets like Chandler and Nelson, plus we have Spiller out of the backfield, not to mention a keeper by Fitz. I believe he was surprised to see the ball there, and that is all on him on a pattern that deep. It was a routine catch with YAC possibilities. For him to be tweeting that this "drop" was a "miscommunication" only adds to what we already believe is a serious lack of maturity.
-
Good post. I have similar sentiments about him. There is a definite lack of maturity to this fun loving soul. Yet, as we type, he continues to tweet that he did not drop the ball, it was a "miscommunication" not a drop. If I am his coach I take his toys away for the season.

Rayner has been an awesome waiver wire acquisition. He could stick in the NFL next year. His kickoffs are deep and high. He has made a 56 and a 53 yd FG. He is doing great. He flubbed a squib kick that he should not have had to been attempting in the first place.
-
Good point. I have stayed out of the whole kick debate. A squib kick is supposed to be hard and low and definitely past the front line. The idea is to not let the deep man get the ball. A good squib from our twenty would have put the ball on the Jets 30 to 40, depending on lots of things. Kicking it straight away would have set up a return upon receipt of the ball at the 15 to 20 yard line. Seems like they were avoiding a return. I would have kicked it away and relied on the coverage team. Rayner put too much mustard on the ball and missed his spot, most likely trying to compensate for the deep ball placement ... the kid came back and nailed a 53 yarder to almost win the game though.
-
The whole crew ripped him before the game. Coach Dungy and all of them. Take this incident and last years antics and he is hurting his rep. I think Johnson is too nice of a guy to let this happen any further. Chan should discipline him to make this go away for good.
-
A new twist ... The old "they did it to us so I am gong to do it to them", circa Grades 3 thru 7. What wrong with giving it back? Nothing. Just do it on the field with your play. Johnson's method of "giving it back" cost us a big penalty. Was it worth it? Did it make it all better for you? Too bad Johnson choked when the big play was needed. I bet the Jets had a nice laugh on drive home. So there are three camps now: 1 - it's fun and good for the game, I need cool celebrations to be entertained 2 - they did it to us so lets do it back, 3 - it is not necessary and could actually fire up the other team, or worse come back to haunt you. I guess sportmanship is dead today so why bother to explain it?

A Few Thoughts About The Game
Bob in STL replied to Bill from NYC's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hello Bill, Good stuff as usual. My comments to your comments: 1) Barnett - Best free agent Buddy has ever signed. 2) Brad Smith - best game as a Bill. motivated by NY Jets and crowd 3) Nelson - good slot #3, not a #2. 4) Stevie Johnson - needs to grow up. Cost us dearly today. 5) Coach Gailey - did all he could. 6) Chandler - woudl like to see him get more passes. 7) I almost never get your lyrics. 8) Fitz - good game today. Not great, but good. 9) Pears - two penalties and he let Maybin run around him for a sack. Looking more like a backup as the season goes on. I expect Hairston to challenge him at RT next season. 10) Spiller - his best game but looks limited as a NFL RB. 11) your welcome 12) Add Mel Renfro, Herb Adderly and Willie Brown to that list. 13) GO BILLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Just so you and all the Stevie apologists know, I want to keep Johnson. We have far too many holes on this team to have to replace one of our better players just because he is a flake. I really do think Johnson is one of the better players on this team. I want the Bills sign him to a fair and reasonable contract and I want to see this team add more capable WRs through BOTH the draft and free agency. That said, Johnson needs to grow up. Are you watching any of the football shows today? He is a laughing stock right now. Most of the ex-players and coaches are ripping him for stupid and selfish behavior. He is becoming known as a flake which is sad because he is a pretty good kid at heart. During the football season Johnson needs to concentrate on his craft, that is football, and not talking, rapping, tweeting, and celebrating. It is nonsense and his shameless self promotion is not conducive to being a key member of a TEAM. I will not blame him solely for the loss, it is a team loss. Yes, the kicker could have kicked the ball better and yes the defense could have played better. I do think he is a large contributor to todys loss. We all expect more form him as do his teammates. He is a veteran now and should be setting an example. The drop was all on him and if he has his head in the game he makes that catch. Just how long do you think his act would last with Belichek anyway?
-
He hardly owns him. Most of his catches were short one. The TD slant pattern was a nice adjustment when Revis pulled of the line of scrimmage. Revis was problably looking for another play or inside help. It they meet 10 times a year Revis would dominate on 7 of them. I really believe that. If I had the choice between the two I would pick Revis for my team. Revis is the best corner in the league. Period, end of story. Johnson might be a top 20 WR someday.
-
Who is Bailey?
-
The Bills should re-sign Johnson, and sign a veteran free agent, and draft another reciever. ALL three. Losing Johnson will just create another huge hole and we don't have enough draft picks to fill them all.
-
Oh, that's what we are missing. He is an artist. Well. It is all ok then. I wonder how the kickoff team felt about his "art" when they were lining up on the 20 yard line?
-
I seriously doubt he is learning anything and expect this will happen again next year. He had the same remorse after the Pittsburgh drop and the "why me God" thing. He really seems like a good kid, he just doesn't know when to shut up and play. To me it is frustrating because I prefer players that have fun by winning.
-
Lsst year I took some heat from the young guys here because I complained about Johnson's constant talking, tweeting, and celebrating. One year later and he has not learned a thing. Here is a link to the celebration. While it may be funny, the refs made the right call. It was excessive. Johnson's Folly To see Buress go on to make the big play and then Stevie drop a big pass only adds to the frustration. When are these guys going to learn to be humble? Never I guess.

Considering all the starters that are out I think we played a good game. We are not ready for prime time but good to see a competitive game -

We had the best defense in the league in 64 and 65. If you are going to use sarcasm do some research. -

Bad defense. No other way to describe it. No pressure on the QB. -
