I went to H.S. at OP with Dan's daughter. He was a nice guy. They lived over off Stonhenge in the town of OP. I think he got a job and they moved to Pitt after our senior year. They had all kinds of cool Bills and NFL stuff all over the house. It was not a shining tiem for Bills football. On a interesting note- right across the street from the Darrghs lived Frank Reich.

There was a day when the Niners were the gold standard as far as franchises were concerned. Not anymore. JJ will find that out soon. Of course, for the money they gave him, who cares?

One problem with these independent movies, and I discussed this with stuckincincy a while back, is that in smaller markets, it can be much harder to see them. Let's take Sideways. Here in San Francisco which is obviously a bigger market, it had no problem finding a theatre to show it when it was brand new and had that buzz surrounding it. I could walk to the theatres to see it. Stuckincincy told me he had to drive 20 miles if he wanted to see it. I guarantee you that in a place like Buffalo, you wouldn't be able to see that until weeks after it's release. In some cases, forget about it. The movie will never make it to a venue. If Sideways had not garnered alot of Oscar buzz, I'm sure it would have not been seen by much of America outside of NYC, LA, San Francisco, Chicago and some other larger markets. That is a shame.

I thought of that too. I'd say that is the one aberration. But then again, Marv wasn't really touted to be a role model for the youths of America. He was always a fringe oddball that knew hoops well and called the games and, as we now know, wears womens underwear.

Ossie Davis was not only a fine actor, but he did alot for the advancement of civil rights. He was a quiet and determined crusader, he didn't slam his politics at you like other actors do. I like that. I like moves that have well developed and interesting characters. That's why I liked Sideways. I think those guys were very realistic. When I first saw it, I couldn't figure out how those guys could be friends. They didn't seem alike at all. But, when you put the two together, you had a whole person. I think many guys see that movie and see themselves a bit. That's scary but it's true. My hat goes off (again) to my favorite movie of last year.

I have heard of that and I want to see it. I am glad you reminded me. I heard that is one strange comedy. It has Ossie Davis too, he just passed away. Perfect time to see it. In honor of Ossie. BTW, I am sure you were bitter that Giamatti was passsed over for the best actor nomination. I was very pissed. How could that happen? He made that movie!

There are a few movies this year that I am really looking forward too. The King Kong remake by Peter Jackson, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (this looks awesome), Revenge of the Sith (obviously), Land of the Dead (the 4th and final in the Living Dead series by Romero). War of the Worlds shows promise, but I less enthused for some reason. If this is anything like years past, my favorite movie of the year will end up being a small independent movie that I haven't even heard of yet, like Sideways. I'm not sure what Pixar has on tap, but that's usually a can't miss either.

Celebrity/Hollywood weddings are a farce. On a side note- wasn't Denise Richards a Heidi Fleiss girl? That was the rumor. Charlie Sheen was one of Heidi's best customers. Remember when he was called to testify in court and he sat there sweating profusely, gulping water and admitted he wrote checks totalling over 60k in one year alone for Fleis's ladies?

Man, what a mess this turned out to be for him. It wrecked his image, his career (to some extent), cost millions and made a mockery of his marriage. He probably would have been a good guy for a studio/commentator job. That probably won't happen now. He's always going to be Kobe Bryant- the guy that was accused of rape. You reap what you sew.

The Dolphins could go 0-16 and still get MNF game. I actually don't like the Bills playing MNF games. We always seem to get wiped out. The Chiefs and Steelers are a few teams I recall getting killed by.

The bachelor parties that I go to these days are far worse and more evil (in a good way) than any spring breaks I went on. More cash and wisdom = more evil. I think bachelor parties are the "spring break" for guys like me and my friends whose lives are now filled with obligations. That said, have a blast and drink many Pacificos. Don't walk down any dark alleys and make sure you keep it safe. Mexican strippers a dirty girls. Pura vida amigo!

Painful ain't it?

It's true. They are usually overly nice. But you get the impression that if you were to do something that crossed them, they would be stomping off to management behind your back in order to get you fired. That is why it is best to not interact with a person such as this. There is usually some darkness or bitterness lurking underneath. So my point is, only interact with the hot receptionist that is very flirty that you might have a slight chance with.

Ah yes. Gotcha. That's probably true.

The person I mentioned is usually not very petite. You know the type. Not that there is anything wrong with not being petite.

I think every office has a woman in her 30's who is single and has multiple cats that she treats as children. She's the type who has stuffed animals and toys all over her office too. There is something not quite right there.

He probably felt embarrased for about a minute or so when he saw it on TV last night. Then rolled around in a pile of money and felt better.

I agree 100%. I think they need to get rid of the musical performances. Give the extra minutes to the people they hand the statues to. It's downright embarrassing when they play music to get the people off the stage. I agree they shouldn't be allowed to ramble, but if Clint Eastwood wants to take 5 minutes to say some interesting and poignant things, by all means let him. It's like if the halftime show at the Super Bowl became more important than the actual game.

There were many good speeches. I really liked Foxx's. Morgan Freeman might be one of the coolest people on the planet. All the winners were gracious and funny as well. There were no embarrassments either in behavior or clothing. Chris Rock did a fine job. I think he missed the mark by jabbing at Jude Law, but he was self deprecating too, so his jokes worked. He could use some polishing, but I think he could host again. The clips of Carson hosting really made you long for a guy like that to do it again. But he was one of a kind. It was a faster ceremony than most. That was a big plus. On the whole, it wasn't a very remarkable ceremony and it wasn't over the top, but I liked it though. One major pls- very few political rants. I can't stand that.

I can't pull up the sound one. If that guy made a racist remark, then the beat down was justified (maybe not 7 punches, though). Hate to pull a 180 on my earlier post.

I saw that on another site too. 4 years with that guy behind bars is good news for society. They need to throw the b**ch that started it away too. Lets hope she waddles in the street and gets hit by a truck.

People that complain of property taxes in Buffalo should talk to San Francisco and San Diego people who spent 750,000 on their 2 bedroom shack and then another 15k a year to send their kids to a private school because the public schools suck.

Yeah, we have all what you list there, plus bad weather and a higher cost of living. Minus the good baeches and hot chicks in bikinis and add in lots of sour girls with crap attitudes. San Francisco can be alot of fun. But, i've been here so long, I don't know what else I can do. It's like a drug addiction and I can't shake it. Sometimes I wish a major earthquake would desrtoy this whole city and then I'll laugh my way back to Buffalo. At least we destroyed the Niners last year.

Let's not forget Coppola losing to bob Fosse as best director (Godfather vs. Cabaret). Yuck! Then they ignored Paul Giamtti this year in Sideways. Polar Express isn't up for best anaimated film. What is up with the Academy? It's a joke. They love to pat themselves on the back and congratulate themsleves on how important and great they are. I watch just to see how stupid the celebrities are.
