If the Bills Don’t Make it to the AFCCG, Should McDermott Be Fired?

Are you sure Beane had even been hired when the pick used on Mahome was traded away? -

A better poll question would be "how many years should Sean McDermott remain as the Bills head coach, if he never gets to a Super Bowl" 6 years, 2023 - Josh Allen is 27 7 years, 2024 - Josh Allen is 28 8 years, 2025 - Josh Allen is 29 9 years, 2026- Josh Allen is 30 10 years, 2027 - Josh Allen is 31 11 years, 2028 - Josh Allen is 32 (final year of current contract) 16 years - 2033 Josh Allen is 38 22 years - 2039 Jos Allen is 44 -

If the Bills Don’t Make it to the AFCCG, Should McDermott Be Fired?
Chaos replied to Gugny's topic in The Stadium Wall
The question in the original post does not specify the 2023 season. Should we interpret this to mean the 2023 season or does it mean “ever”? How do guarantee it. Rivera won a Super Bowl with less talent. -

Tom Landry was canned. Chuck Noll was forced to retire. Super Bowl winners Doug pederson and Mike McCarthy were fired. Drought derangement syndrome may be one cause of people over eating McDermotts success level. Another possibility is that some people think the performance expectations for coaches in the NFL wre too high. I think our closest comp is Dan reeves and John Elway. Reeves for nine seasons. Shanahan tool ever and got the Broncos to the superbowl his second season I think McDermott will be given the whole nine seasons Absurd question. Name me coaches that you guarantee can’t get to the playoffs with Josh Allen and the rest of this roster -

His Coach Don Shula did coach the only undefeated season in NFL history. Personally I don’t McDermott has earned a similar level of goodwill to Shula. maybe that is just me. -

Zac Taylor and Nick Sirianas are probably not the two coaches you think of as great, yet both got their teams to the Super Bowl, by their third season. There may simply be some advantage to fresh eyes on the situation. -

The McDermott / Allen combination is already in nearly unprecendented status. They have been together a long time without advancing to the Super Bowl. Actually the longest combination since the 1970's (Madden/Stabler). NFL head coaching sometimes looks like a terrible burnout job (see Dick Vermeil). My personal assessment based on what little I see on TV during the games and in interviews is that McDermott might be suffering a bit from burnout. Assuming that speculation is correct, that all militates towards making a change. However, if in the post-season, the Bills seem to be meaningfully better than the post-season Bills have the past several seasons, the coaching staff should be retained. Separately, fear of returning to a playoff drought with Allen and without McDermott borders on being a true mental illness. This drought derangement syndrome should not factor into any decision making. Is it possible that Beane could be responsible for hiring a new HC. My understanding is that the GM hiring the coach is a pretty common method. -

Why. So we can have Allen’s third oc next year and his fourth oc the following year. -
Tre White Injury Updates (Torn Achilles now confirmed)

Yep, gives the Jets the opportunity to close the gap, as much it gives the Bills the opportunity to pull away. -

They are 3-3. They own the tie breaker with the 4-2 Bills. Why are we so certain the Jets December games are garbage games? -
After nine games, where do you think the Bills end up this season?
Chaos replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
Huge consensus the Bills will make the playoffs. In all sincerty, if the Bills are this confident, we may see the same vanilla offense for the entire regular season. -
IF Allen Tried to Force His Way Out of Buffalo...

You really need to change your name. Its very disconnected from your nonsense post. -

I think coaching is underestmated and often misunderstood. People use the chess vs checkers analogy with some frequency on this forum. I was a good club chess player at one point. In chess parlance, this means I could almost always beat a casual chess player, and could never ever beat someone who was a master rated player. To even it up somewhat there are handicapping systems. A good friend of mine was the NYS high school chess champion while we were in school. I could never come close to beating him in an even match. But if he had a clock of one minute total time, and I had 30 minutes of total time, I could beat him occassionally. Comparing NFL head coaches, requires understanding the handicaps they operate with. And what they do with a level playing field. Take Belichek. If you give him the best QB in the league, he wins many super bowls. If you give him the worst QB in the league, he struggles. This season Belichek is playing with no queen and one his rooks missing on the board. He should not ever beat someone with the full complement of pieces. The giants game notwithstanding, McDermott is very good at dominating games when his chess pieces (mainly due to Josh Allen) are better than the opposing teams pieces. But given even pieces in a game, he looks like a good club player not a master. -

This is true. The playoffs also provide the challenge that you need to string four wins in a row against playoff caliber teams to win the Super Bowl. Stringing together wins against playoff teams during the regular season also does not seem to be a McDermott speciality. I am guessing every person voting hopes the Bills win the Super Bowl, regardless of their vote. From the fine people at fanduel : -
The Good, The Bad and the Ugly. Sunday Oct 15. NY Giants version.
Chaos replied to Chaos's topic in The Stadium Wall
How many points do you think the Bills would score against a good defense with five starting lineman down, and Kyle Allen at QB? Because that is essentially what the giants had to throw at our good defense. -
Where are you at this brand new “No running Josh” ?
Chaos replied to Italian Bills's topic in The Stadium Wall
I specifically mentioned the OT for a reason. Maybe we would not have been in OT with more Josh running. But that was not my point. There is a bigger issue with the team not being able to close out games effciently. In London, the team looked completely unprepared on offense (same problem this week against the Giants). I am not certain that Josh running more is the optimal answer to coming to games with a piss poor game plan, followed by piss poor play calling. Allen's skills as passer are top 5% in NFL history. A decent coaching staff would not have to rely on him running. -

Niether the botched overtime against the Jets, nor the loss to the Jags had anything do with Josh not running. Its more fun to watch Josh running, but I am not sure it is less effective. It will be interesting to see if there is a change in strategy against the teams we expect to score more points against us, like the Chiefs. -
bengals made the final four with lots of injuries last year

Oddly this could be the unique NFL season with no in season head coaching changes

Herbert is a much better thrower than prescott
-
From where the cowboys were I agree. If you are at the five or closer, and you convert, you likely get the TD. Even if Prescotts converts there, they might only end up with a FG anyway
