  3. here is some more, just one article but< "I'm very impressed with Joey Cheek winning the silver and becoming a double-medalist for the U.S.,'' she said. I asked again about Davis. After all, hadn't he been the only male youngster in Hyde Park wearing a Bonnie Blair sweatshirt in the '90s? Wasn't she an inspiration for him? "I'm not allowed to talk about him,'' Blair said. "His mother sent me an e-mail and told me not to talk about him. So I can't talk about him.'' Why? "I have no idea,'' Blair said. "If you can figure it out, let me know. I've never said a bad word about him. Joey Cheek was great.'' Even on his proudest day, the one that made 17 years of hard work and racial slurs worth the pain, Davis couldn't escape the tumult that has made his rise so bittersweet. The story always spins back to his fiercely protective mother, Cherie, who is waging war against the speedskating world (and the world in general) and has let her battles unfairly harm her son's reputation. 4. Don't you just want to sing< Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Oh give me a land where the bright diamond sand Flows leisurely down the stream Where the graceful white swan goes gliding along Like a maid in a heavenly dream Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day Oh often at night, when the heavens are bright From the light of the glittering stars Have I stood there amazed and asked as I gazed If their glory exceeds that of ours Home, home on the range Where the deer and the antelope play Where seldom is heard a discouraging word And the skies are not cloudy all day
  5. Sure, you all know what that means....... Rhinotillexomaniac Of the 1000 surveys mailed out, only 254 were completed and returned to the researchers. * 8.7% claim that they have never picked their nose. (In other words, they are liars or they can't remember doing it as a kid.) * 91% stated that they had picked their nose in the past and were still actively practicing this habit. Yet, only 49.2% of the respondents actually thought that nose-picking was common in adults. * 9.2% rate their pickin' as "more than average." * 25.6% actually pick their noses daily, 22.3% do it 2 to 5 times each day, and three people admitted to doing it at least hourly. * 55.5% spent 1-5 minutes, 23.5% spent 5-15 minutes, and 0.8% (2 people) spent 15-30 minutes each day cleaning their nostrils. One lone soul claims to devote over 2 hours each day to this ritual (I'm not a doctor and I can tell you that this guy definitely has rhinotillexomania). * 18% reported nosebleeds, while 0.8% claimed perforation of the nasal septum from their nose-picking. * 82.8% had picked their noses to "unclog the nasal passages", 66.4% had done it to relieve discomfort or itchiness, 35.7% to avoid the unsightly appearance of a booger hanging from their nose, 34.0% for personal hygiene, and 17.2% picked out of habit. 2.1% (five people) claimed to pick solely for enjoyment. To no one's surprise, one perverted person picked his/her nose for "sexual stimulation." * 65.1% use their index finger, 20.2% use their pinky, and 16.4% use their thumb (must have BIG nostrils to fit a thumb in) as their instrument of choice. * Most people (90.3%) disposed of the goop in a tissue or a handkerchief, while 28.6% used the floor, and 7.6% stuck it to the furniture. * 8% of the respondents actually ate the end product. In case you are thinking of trying this delicacy, the study claims that the pickings are quite tasty (salty).
  6. The Wildcats are the Number Rated Jr. team in Canada this season. They because of being the host will have automatic position in this years memorial cup. They just had their winning streak stopped at 14 games. Much was said about Moncton getting auto bid as they were projected to be a poor team. It looks like they very well may earn their place in the memorial cup on merit. Here is a interesting story about the teams visit to New York City, the reasons why and their visit with former Sabre Pat Lafontaine. Wildcats visit the big apple - much has been said about him and Haseks wife. all of which he says is not true , but still is spoken of, and by hockey people. Both he and Muckler claim their problems not a issue. That likely true as many coaches general managers have had conflict , this happens often.

  15. The current issue of officials at this past Superbowl is a shame. reality is that poor sports or jealous folk are always going to look for reason to down the efforts of those who have won. Its got to stink and be most aggravating for Steeler fans and I hope football fans who want to be respectfull to the winner to hear the current thoughts that the referees decided this past game. Giving reasons of incompetence to flat out cheating, the talk can get silly. Truth is some folks are going to say this stuff in any case, and that does get tiresome, and will not change professional refereees or otherwise. But for the majority of people easily 90% of folks watching these past playoffs were and are most disappointed in the huge effect calls have played in the results, all concerned deseve the very best possible officials deciding the rules of the game. The issue isnt the current men arent not fine people doing their best, the issue is the game needs better, and finding a way to make them better hardly should be a matter of dispute. Like anything else, if one focuses on what the do and dedicates 100% of their effort rather than part of their effort , no matter how earnest that effort be, better one devote their 100% than part, thus full time officials better than part time. imo
  16. I stand by what I said, you of course have every right to disagree. You have made your point you are happy with what we have, that the NFL be the only major professional league without professional full-time officials.
  17. People wait an entire lifetime in some cases to see their team in Superbowl, the current officials while they do their best are composed of retired business people , fireman ect. I do not want such people deciding the most import games my team perhaps will ever play in my life time. Its simply way past the time for professional full time officials.
  18. From Peter King "Monday Morning Quarterback" Anthem of the Week Aretha Franklin, Dr. John, Aaron Neville. Second-best anthem of the 22 Super Bowls I've covered, next to Whitney Houston's. Moving, terrific. Did you see Cowher's reaction? I've never seen a coach clap so enthusiastically for an anthem. Not sure if I've ever seen a coach respond to one, period. Monday Morning Quarterback

  24. The Rogers Center seating could be expanded. But in many ways with Olympics coming to Vancouver , Vancouver very well may be a more attractive site in Canada for a game in World marketing terms.
  25. for those who care to read here is what COMMISSIONER PAUL TAGLIABUE said at news conference regarding various issues. Q. The NFL hosted a very successful regular season game in Mexico this year. You've had preseason games in Toronto in the past, do you see a regular season game coming back to Toronto, and how do you view the Canadian market? COMMISSIONER TAGLIABUE: We do think the game in Mexico was very successful and we do think it's a springboard for doing additional regular season games outside of the United States, and certainly Canada would be high on any short list. And we've had discussions with individuals in Canada and also discussions with representatives of the Canadian Football League, including the commissioner, to make sure that if we did do that it would be consistent with the goals and the growing aspirations of the Canadian Football League. But right now I think it's going to be difficult to play a regular season game outside of the United States in this upcoming 2006 season, we're still exploring alternatives, but I would think over time we would do it in Canada in the right way, in the right place. Q. You've talked about a possible expansion to L.A. and I'm wondering if you do go to two teams where does Canada stand on your radar screen? COMMISSIONER TAGLIABUE: What I said about possible expansion to L.A. is that to me that the only possibility in the foreseeable future for an expansion team would be Los Angeles. I could not see, at least now, a decision that would involve a two team expansion. So if there is expansion I would think it would leave us with an odd number of teams for some period of time, which we have had in the past, most recently when we had Cleveland back in the League, but not Houston. We had 31 teams and that's been a pattern that has been in the NFL in the past. So I don't see expansion in Canada as being related to what we might do in Los Angeles. news conference
