  1. TO's Contract Owens, who was released by the Eagles on Tuesday, will earn a bonus of $5 million for this season and a base salary of $5 million, for total compensation of $10 million. Under his contract with the Eagles, Owens would have earned $8.52 million for 2006. Dallas must then pay Owens a roster bonus of $3 million in March 2007 to retain him for that season, at a base salary of $5 million. There is another roster bonus of $3 million due in March 2008, and Owens has a base salary of $4 million for that year. Under the terms of the seven-year, $49 million contract that Owens signed with Philadelphia after being traded to the Eagles in 2004, he would have earned $20.27 million for the 2006-2008 seasons. So there is the potential, should the contract with the Cowboys remain intact, for Owens to make nearly $5 million more in Dallas than he would have with the Eagles.

  5. In the Buffalo News today is a article by Alan Pergament , with Jeff Burris discussing why he made the comments he did during broadcast of Bills game, that concerned those who heard it. Jeff Burris battles depression brought on by move from football to the real world "When you walk away from football, a lot of guys lose a sense of direction. All my life I dealt with a set regimen. This [radio work] has given me another opportunity to be on that time frame." Jeff Burris wants everyone who heard him on 97 Rock on the final pregame show of the Buffalo Bills season to know he's doing fine. The sideline reporter stunned listeners on the first day of 2006 by revealing he had been battling depression for more than two years. After telling play-by-play man John Murphy that he had some things he wanted to say, Burris told the radio audience that he understood what Indianapolis coach Tony Dungy's late son, James, had experienced because he was battling depression, had lost his family and had considered suicide. The revelation surprised Bills officials, who were concerned for Burris' welfare and believed it was a cry for help. They were unaware that he has been treated by a doctor on and off for about two years. "Am I where I need to be right now? No, not yet," Burris said in a telephone interview from his home in Indianapolis. "But I will eventually get there. I am close to recovery and where I need to be." He says working on the Bills radio broadcasts was a big help in getting him out of depression. - Good for him to have courage to speak out and good for him he is dealing with it Jeff Burris

  8. Just to late. Bernie Geoffrion passes on from Cancer. Tonight in Montreal they will raise his sweater. It had been hoped he would be able to attend, but it became clear last week it would not be possible and his sons were and are going to stand at center ice in his place. Bernie a true legend of the game part of the greatest hockey teams ever. Boom Boom as he was known because of his slapshot, this he invented. When fifty goals was the standard the great Rocket Richards record, much like Babe Ruths homerun record and the resentment some took at Maris passing it as many wanted the Mick or the record to endure, Bernie scored 50 goals and because of the huge love for the Rocket in Montreal Bernie did not get his due. Many of the greats had their time at center ice with their number raised, Unfortunately they waited to long for Bernie to take his place at center ice. Tonight in Montreal will be a most emotional one. This man amongst the very greatest . (There is a rather obvious lesson here, that we make the time to care while we able to do so, and leave the petty behind, or we may not get the chance) Bernie Geoffrion

The cost-cutting move ends McGinest's 12-year tenure in Foxboro. McGinest was owed $7 million for the upcoming season, and although New England was not in danger of exceeding the new $102 million salary cap, McGinest reportedly told the Globe a week ago that he felt the move was coming. 23. The six-year veteran agreed to terms Sunday on a restructured contract that provides the team with salary cap relief, removes the Jets from considerable financial exposure, and essentially keeps him from being released. The agreement, which will significantly reduce Pennington's $15 million cap charge for 2006, has not yet been signed, but all principle issues have been resolved. Under the new agreement, Pennington, who was scheduled to pocket a $3 million roster bonus this month, and earn a $6 million base salary for 2006, will drop his total compensation from $9 million to $3 million. But the contract also provides Pennington the ability to earn back $6 million if he is healthy again and reaches certain predetermined performance levels. Espn
