Bills trade down and somehow end up with Boogie Basham, Rondale Moore and Asante Samuel Jr. 🥳

    and

Washington football team trades up into top 10 to grab the last of the big 5 QBs

Not sure what folks’ obsession is with Basham but that’s 2 very meh prospects and an undersized gadget player with injury questions. I’d be far from thrilled with this outcome...

  2. Have a lot of respect for Dean and the amount that he grinds. I also do not have the time, energy, resources, or ability to put together anything resembling what he did for that writeup. All that said, that's a ton of work for a bunch of very 'meh' picks.

    To me, this amounts to:

    • 1 average starter in Dickerson
    • A high-upside gamble on Melifonwu
    • 2 big fatties that can maybe form a solid rotation in Wilson and Tonga at an exceedingly replaceable position
    • A journeyman/meh depth guy in Toney
    • An interesting longshot type guy in Sherwood
    • and 2 doubtful to make the rosters in Eubanks and Tommy Doyle

I'd be pretty disappointed if this was our haul. Again, big respect to Dean for the work he put in, just not loving the output...

  3. With the 100th pick the San Diego Los Angeles Chargers select Spencer Brown, Tackle, Northern Iowa.

Brown is The 2nd tackle the Chargers have drafted in this draft. Though not a massive need, the Chargers DO need a talent infusion on the lines and desperately need to keep Justin Herbert upright. Brown has the kind athleticism to start in a swing tackle role and grow into a killer RT (had he played for a big-name program, he would've gone much earlier than this), bookending Rashawn Slater.

The Lions @Reed83HOF are on the clock.

Cmon bud liars season.  Do i have to send again the animal house remain calm youtube.

Note to anyone who wphasnt watched drafts for over 30 years.  They all lie.  Believe NOTHING.  There is nothing that is true.  NOTHING.  I didn’t even watch his pre draft presser.  Why?  He’s living like every other GM.  you can’t read a tea leave to find not one thing out and I wouldn’t either if I were them.   That’s giving away you’re leverage.  These guys are smart.

they are not dumb enough to give you any hint of what they will really do.  The whole RB thing from the other day.  Lie!  or not.  We won’t know until the end of next weekend.

enjoy it like Christmas and see what toys we get.

As others have said, most draft choices ARE long-term decisions. I'm not sure how much what he's saying could possibly be a lie. I was just trying to take his comments and apply them to what we think we know about our own team's setup, going into the draft.

  5. One more thought: I totally spaced RB on the stock up/down/shrug...

Kenny Gainwell might be one to watch and is someone not talked a lot about on these boards... He doesn't possess the typical size of a lead/bellcow back, but he's incredibly dynamic. Per Beane's "future" comment, and knowing what we do(n't) have at RB and in the return game already, I could absolutely see him being a guy that they could give 5ish touches/game, get involved in the return game too and to learn, and basically take slowly to gauge how much he could be a lead back (my opinion, he could be an 18-20 touch guy like Kamara).

Somewhat random, but definitely feels like -- outside of size -- checks a LOT of boxes.

It is not. But Beane talked about drafting a guy who could learn behind players with 1 year left. Beasley and Sanders fall in that camp.

I am at the point where #30 (if they don't trade out) is down to Travis Etienne, a corner, a project pass rusher or a receiver based on the presser.

I still maintain a trade up is V likely too. Obviously mocks aren't the be-all/end-all, but it does feel like a handful of guys a tier higher than those that we're discussing go in the mid/late-20s. Ex: to me, a guy like Farley (if he checks out medically) or Newsome or Paye is probably worth paying the cost to move up 5ish spots, rather than taking a Campbell or Ossai...

The Bills also could be thinking about a replacement for Star, so I would add DT to the list, including in the first round.  The Edmunds situation will be interesting. I have a feeling that they will not pick up the option but say all the right things when announced that they want to negotiate a long-term extension with him, whether or not there is real interest in doing so.

Problem is -- unless we're changing schemes, there's no one remotely worth a 1st rd. pick at DT.

  7. I know this has been posted elsewhere, so mods feel free to merge if deemed necessary, but wanted to lay out a general line of thinking taking this comment a step or two further...

From Beane's presser the other day:

So what might this mean in terms of position and player priority as they're looking at the draft? While none of this is mind-blowing, it tells me a couple things:

    1. Higher paid positions likely more in play than lower (CB, over S, for instance)
    2. Immediate needs become less of a priority than longer-term ones (see DE/WR age/depth/future contract situations)
    3. What impact does our franchise QB's health play into that? Might be too deep of a read into that quote, but we know the staff believes in building successful season on top of successful season. Could potentially bring OT into play...
    4. General player health might play a role too -- specifically thinking of Morse here. Given the contract they gave him to come from KC, the staff clearly prioritizes the C position...
    5. Probably "nothing to see here" but also fair to wonder if the decision to delay committing to Edmunds' 5th year extension could play interestingly there as well. Given his age and his athleticism, he'd still be an intriguing trade chip and there's depth to be found in the LB class this year...

In general, if my thesis is proven correct, I think this statement from Beane probably means:

Stock up: DE, CB, WR, OT, C

    Stock down: S, OG,

    🤷‍♂️: LB, TE, 3T, 1T

  8. I'll be VERY surprised if he's there at our 2nd round pick, but I love this kid (Duck homer, if my name didn't give it away), but he's a DOG.

Plus coverage guy but he's fearless and sound in supporting the run game. One of those guys who has a knack for making the big play when you need it -- very much like Tyron Matthieu in that way.

    I'd love this pick.

  9. Here's my list based on our needs:

    • Dwayne Eskridge, WR, WMich.
    • Spencer Brown, OT, N. Iowa
    • Tommy Togiai, DT, Ohio State
    • Michael Carter, RB, UNC
    • Kenny Gainwell, RB, Memphis
    • Israel Mukuamu, CB, So. Carolina
    • Aaron Banks, G, ND
    • Trill Williams, CB, Syracuse
    • Amari Rodgers, WR, Clemson
    • Trey Sermon, RB, Ohio State

This year I will likely watch the Draft from my living room and wait and wait for the Bills to select.  (This drafting at #30 is a new phenomenon) After pick #10 I think anything can happen.  I don't see Beane selling the farm to move up into the top ten, but I could see him go after a "difference maker" in the teens and early twenties if he can swing a deal.   The thing I dread the most is finally getting to pick #30 after waiting three hours only to hear that Beane has traded out of the 1st round.   I hate to think about sitting there all night watching awkward man hugs with the Commish, listening to draftniks blather on about everyone else's draft picks, and not even see my Bills on the clock once.

    We're nine days out from the Draft and it's time to call your shot.  Does Beane;

    1.   Trade up

    2.  Stand pat

    3.  Trade back

My prediction is that Beane will trade up and grab a player between picks #20 - #23

Serious suggestion, if you don't like all of the rigmarole of the draft, why watch it live? Why not record it, find out where we end up drafting, fast forward to all the stuff you don't like and just watch that part? Watching every moment of the draft isn't for everyone, and as someone who HAS for probably the last 25 years, I don't judge anyone who's not willing or able to carve out that much time in their weekend to do so. You do you!

To answer your question, I think there's a pretty high likelihood we trade up and can see really any of the 20s being our potential landing zone, with any of Paye, Phillips if he drops, Marshall, or Rondale Moore, Farley and Newsome being sensible targets.

As a pro prospect, yes, especially for the Bills, who lack speed at RB...

The Bills RBs are not good. The Bills RBs are also not fast.

But those 2 points of evidence do not mean that speed is the missing piece of the puzzle. You're VASTLY overrating speed when it comes to evaluating RBs.

  12. With the 77th pick, the Los Angeles Chargers select Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami.  @H2o and the Vikings are on the clock.

Jordan probably isn't the best player left on the board, but TE is a need for this team long-term and this late in the draft, a 2-way TE with Jordan's upside is a gift to Justin Herbert (who loves to use his TEs).
