  1. Not trying to get into a pissing contest here, MMA especially for youths, especially in schools, is far more of a niche sport where as the overwhelming majority of high schools in America field a football team. As others have mentioned, lineman are taking blows to the head every play. I’m not here to do research projects, the information is out there if you want to read it, plenty of neurologists have said it’s about receiving repeated blows to the head. It’s not about having a concussion or two throughout your life, it’s the repeated hits to the head, I.e. Lineman crashing into each other every single snap. Don’t get me wrong, concussions are definitely not good, but it doesn’t mean your doomed to a fate of CTE, however getting your head hit how many practices and games for how many years? It’s the cumulative damage. It may seem like it’s “just” 4 years if somebody only plays highschool ball, but that’s still 4 whole years, again when the brain is still developing, of taking regular abuse to an area of the body ill equipped to handle it. Double that if you play college, with an uptick in intensity and physicality. I just think, and it will take some time, but eventually you’ll have to be 18 to play tackle football due to the long term risks to brain health that are involved.
  2. It’s important to note that no, you would not, you just need to exercise common sense rather than comparing apples to oranges. Though I do hear Highschool MMA teams are all the rage 🙄 Yes, head injuries can happen in all those other sports, clearly some more than others, not sure why you would go lumping baseball and Basketball in with Rugby, Hockey and Soccer. Even so, aside from the headers in soccer which still are far less frequent than hits to the head kids take daily during football season, none of these other sports are comparable to any football in terms of the sheer amount of blows to the head received regularly. I’m not even considering MMA in the equation, any parents letting their kid get pummeled by haymakers obviously doesn’t care about their child’s long term health. Kids however can train in martial arts without getting their clocks cleaned. It also doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to make those other sports safer for children as well without having to remove them from their lives.
  3. I don’t think a child is capable of fully understanding the long term risks associated with CTE from repeated head trauma. We know is the brain is still developing through those highschool and college years. I realize it’s going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think eventually common sense prevails and high school tackle football becomes a thing of the past, atleast in some areas. To continue subjecting minors to repeated head trauma with the information we have about brain injury and it’s lasting effects, and knowing their brains aren’t fully developed seems irresponsible to me. It likely will become a state by state issue with some states banning it, and others with long standing traditions of highschool football putting tradition ahead of common sense and the long term safety of their children. It’s our job to set them up for the best future possible, and putting them at increased risk of developing dementia seems very counter intuitive to that long term goal. Call it over protective but there is simply no fate worse than that of suffering from dementia, and I can’t sign off willingly increasing my kids chances of one day being damned to that existence because football... I don’t judge anybody for having a different opinion, I love the game, but hate the brutality.
  4. I agree with the sentiment that last night probably changed most people in some way, especially in terms of what winning or losing really means to them/us as fans. I care more about this team, this particular group of guys who have represented the Buffalo Bills and everything that means, in a way no other has before them, than I do about winning homefield advantage or a Super Bowl… Keep fighting Damar.
  5. I’m just in a state of shock… Just pull through kid.
  6. Why is it becoming a common theme that Diggs is invisible in the first half of games? Too much “bad Josh” this game, needs to get it together… Losing home field to a 3-11 team would be one way to ruin Christmas for all of WNY…
  7. First 3 rounds next year better be O Line, O Line and O Line…
  8. I’d franchise Lamar and trade him to the highest bidder… if Houston got what they did for Watson and all that baggage, it’s hard to fathom what type of return Lamar would bring.
  9. Personal opinions aside, clearly nobody has stepped up to fill the void left by Beasley… to be fairly Beasley couldn’t fill that void now either, his play fell off a cliff last year, can’t imagine he’s got much of anything left in the tank now. It’s too bad Beckham likely won’t be ready in time to make a difference if signed. However, Dorsey needs to adjust. Stop trotting the same bs out there. Involve Cook and Hines more rather than McKenzie. Maybe change it up a bit, pass out of heavy dual RB sets? I don’t see much creativity out of this passing game. They were moving Diggs all over the field to start with then he just goes completely ghost out there for entire halves?
  10. Rent Beckham for the playoffs.
  11. Hopefully somebody hires Frazier for real this year… please? They can even have one of the third round picks
  12. Score is 0 frickin 0 dude… If I wanted bs like this I’d watch soccer
  13. You don’t pay a QB a quarter billion to watch him struggle in wet ***** conditions. FOH
  14. Good thing Tre is back… guy can’t cover anymore
  15. All QBs play worse in bad weather, especially wet windy weather… Buffalo has more inclement weather than any other city with an open air stadium. Point is, the state has a chance to get it right and they’re operating under pretenses that people actually enjoy paying good money to sit through ***** weather we are seeing right now, in December. The product on field sucks, and spending fours hours drenched in freezing cold is who’s idea of fun? Let alone shelling out NFL ticket prices for such an experience? Dome teams play a lot less games in rain (plus freezing cold and wind), these conditions are to nobody’s advantage, it makes it worse for everybody involved from the players to the fans, injury risks go up… it makes no sense to continue on like this when they have the opportunity to fix it.
  16. Games like this are just a friendly reminder of how NYS is just wasting tax payer money… honestly how is this even fun to watch. A bunch of guys battling the weather? So much fun… love watching our elite QB not be able to do what he does best.
  17. I would like to see holding limited to only being called when egregious, on both sides of the ball, football is supposed to be a physical game. It doesn’t mean you have to try and take each other’s heads off or try to hurt your opponent, but if you’re going to be ejecting players like Hamlin after clean hits then the league has to ease up on calls that aren’t protecting players, i.e. Holding/PI and let players play.
  18. Now would be a great time for the Texans to release Hughes…
  19. Well boom, $20million WR drops a very catchable ball, drive over…
  20. Might as well put a cone out there instead of Whiffensberry… much more cost effective.
  21. Defense sans Tre, Hyde, Edmunds, Miller, Rousseau, Epenesa, and Elam… legit more than half of the defensive starters and 3/4 of the edge rush. Yeah, WTH Frazier! Quit getting this team within a miracle 4th and 18, and some errant Josh Allen throws away from being undefeated, even if your defense has been the definition of the walking wounded almost the entirety of this season. Apparently winning doesn’t cure everything, it just brings out the whiners… Look at the 3 losses- Josh, Bass had numerous chances to put the Fish away, defense gave up how many to the high powered Tuna offense? Jets, that L is on Josh and careless redzone turnovers… Vikings, arguably the worst performance by the defense, but again, Cam Lewis just knocks that down or the most routine play in the game, THE SNAP, doesn’t get fumbled, and that’s a W. I don’t see any losses that fall on Frazier’s shoulders, and I’m not even a huge fan of the guy, I wish our defense would play a bit more aggressive but it’s hard to argue with results that should be at worst 10-1 based solely on the play of his unit.
  22. Can the team recoup some of his guaranteed money if he’s deemed physically healthy to return, but just won’t/can’t for his own personal reasons? Not advocating for that, just wondering if Beane could put it on the table if come playoff time White still isn’t willing to play ball… One would assume that given modern medicine/sports science, he should be ready to go… However, on the flip side, the players who have come back from ACL’s early this year have been subject to other injuries likely related to rushing back and the whole aspect of “other parts of the body overcompensating” when you aren’t 100% everywhere. JK Dobbins came back from ACL/MCL, they were even cautious with his return, and he’s on IR. Godwin came back blazingly fast, and while appearing healthy now, suffered a hammy that put him out some weeks, even OBJ coming back off the ACL only to tear it again in the Super Bowl, and so many franchises are expecting him to be their ticket to Lombardi Land, including many fans here 🤣… I get how frustrating it is to watch our secondary give games away on 4th and 18 while a seemingly healthy All Pro caliber corner is standing there on the sidelines just taking it all in, but hopefully the patience pays off and when(if?) Tre comes back when it matters most, he can avoid suffering the set backs these other guys have rushing back to the field. At this point you just have to trust the process… The team is still 7-3 with the Division in their hands, KC will drop one or two along the way, and if they don’t, this team has proven multiple times now they can win at Arrowhead, while the Chiefs have proven they can lose big games there. Being healthy down the stretch > home field.
