Spotrac has Levi Wallace valued @ $9M/yr. Thoughts?
mbs replied to Estro's topic in The Stadium Wall
This is my conjecture: he will want to stay, the Bills will want to keep him and every team will put his value at about the same level. If Levi plays for less to stay in Buffalo, it won't be by much. And if the Bills replace him, it will have to be for a significantly better and much more expensive player which I doubt they can afford. I do not expect them to roll the dice in the draft and I don't expect to see a marginal EJ Gaines type replace him. In sum, I expect to see Levi signed, probably for more than the 5 or 6 mil that lots of posters seem to think is a limit and it may be close to 9. -

With White's injury, Wallace should be the presumptive CB1 week 1. If they don't pick up a premium player in March, I can't see them letting Levi walk in the hope that there's a day-one starter available to them in the draft. He also seems like an archetype for McDermott -- disciplined, available, good tackler, rarely out of place, etc. Like they did with Milano, I think they pay him plenty and lock him up for three or four years. DBs are not the problem, why make them one? Just a slightly back loaded deal with guarantees, my Amazon Prime make cap go brrrrr. -
Fix the OT Rule for Playoff Games--That was Stupid
mbs replied to Nextmanup's topic in The Stadium Wall
I would prefer no overtime in the regular season and just add quarters for playoffs. But failing to close out in regulation was the real problem here. -

Gosh I hope Bill Belichick doesn't get wind of this and build his game plan to deal with a quarterback of limited mobility and a weak arm. -
most underrated move by Beane during his time here
mbs replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Trading Sammy and Darby for picks and chaff. That was the point where I figured he was either a serious man committed to a plan or just plain stupid. Super gutsy. Honorable mention: the mid-season trade of Darius, same reason. -
Why is Summertime Sweatshirt guy getting a pass here? When we took basically the same personnel from the Chair Tossing Kiddie Puncher to the Popcorn and Movies guy they absolutely face-planted. Sure a power blocking offense is the only one my fool eyes can follow, so I'm biased, but maybe it's more than talent here. We hired a rookie line coach and our line stinks way too much for it to be laid all at the feet of Morse, Williams, Dawkins and any two randomly selected scrubs.

Was my Benjamin joke too obvious? Anyway, count me among the retractable roof advocates. Hate rain, love snow. Just trying to get to fifty. -

I am willing to offer a hundred dollar bill to anyone who can develop an anti-lightning technology. -
Not that I miss those days, but Hackett, Marrone, and Whaley made me feel smart. Nowadays, it's best that OBD just not read my letters.

If Beane doesn't want to piss away the tiny amount of cap we have left on an already elite secondary by signing a glass-boned me first malcontent in the downward slope of his overrated career, I'm fine with that. If, on the other hand, Beane wants to use his cap magic to turn a great secondary into an incandescent secondary by signing a perennial pro-bowl win-first premier playmaker in the prime of his career, I can accept that too.

Get ready for Monday Night Football, playoff style
mbs replied to Draconator's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'm a cord cutter with streaming sunday ticket, so I hope this game is OTA. I already have to buy a month of streaming cable service for each of the two Bills MNF games otherwise I'll have to keep going to illicit streaming sites and I could lose interest in giving the NFL hundreds of dollars per year. -
Good for them that Roman can make Mike Gillislee look like LeSean McCoy. Where are you, Mike?

Something to keep an eye on: Point differential?
mbs replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I said earlier seasons, but yes, earlier season. They weren't the only games where they seemed to chew clock with two score leads. It was more apparent to me on defense than offense. The priority seemed to be keep it in bounds and under ten yards. This could have been a perception based on an opposing team throwing more, but it was more noticeable under McDermott than ever before. I'm not speaking of halftime adjustments I'm talking about what looked like a soft-prevent that started mid to late fourth quarter in two score games. It drove me nuts, but every time it seemed to work out. I considered it praiseworthy at the time that they played the odds even though it led to nail biters. -

Apart from the fact that McDermott mentioned he would make a change toward aggressiveness in the wake of hail murray, there were a couple dolphins games in earlier seasons which came down to the wire. One ended with a Hyde onside kick recovery and one with a Tre White interception. In both of those games it was absolutely clear that McDermott was playing the clock with a huge lead. There were others which weren't so obvious. I have a haunch the analytics informed a lot of this and truth be told it was wildly improbable that the dolphins even got to the point where a big play was needed, but after AZ, they stopped relying so much on the calculated odds thing (until the AFC Championship.) -
In your opinion, what’s the hardest position?
mbs replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
My point is that it would be much harder for Josh Allen to play left tackle than it would for him to play QB. Linebacker, maybe he could do that. QB is the most important position so it's more of a problem when your guy is average, but that's different from saying the position itself is harder to play. -

My favorite part about football is that questions like this have no meaningful answers. Apart from Left Guard vs. Right Guard, how many positions are really comparable? Which is harder, left tackle or slot receiver? It's like comparing insurance adjusters to veterinarians. -

List of Bills QBs during the Desolation
mbs replied to foreboding's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
As a fan, I can't help but feel bad for each and every one of these potential Joe Montanas who endured a substandard left or right guard, a lack of talent at slot receiver, predictable play calling, a weak running game, and/or no help from their defense. -
I had watched every "all the throws/runs" for Darnold, Rosen, and Jackson plus most of them for Baker and some for Rudolph. I didn't bother watching Allen because the numbers nerds convinced me he was terrible. I might have yelled a bad word at high volume when he was drafted. Then I watched his video and I could at least see what the team was seeing (some truly great stuff with too much sloppy). But it wasn't until YardsPerPass on twitter suggested watching Allen's film and then (re)watching any of the others to compare what Allen had to deal with. It was the best football fan depression cure I ever got. I slept just fine after that. (Of course, it was maybe four in the morning at that point.) I'm a homer so I quickly came around and expected him to work out, though I never expected the loft and touch pass to happen. As it has, I could not be happier.

I was impressed with him at Louisville. He had a bunch of drops and, like Allen, his bad throws were really bad. But the vision he has in his run game was present in the passing game too. Where he could lead a guy deep or shallow he chose the best leverage every time. And most of his passes weren't just good, they were pinpoint. I don't know if it's a lack of NFL arm strength or Roman, but even in his MVP season, I was disappointed. I'd love to see him in an offense with a shorter passing game to see him hit some shallow stuff in stride. But even with his Roman-limited NFL tape, it's pretty clear, he's never going to be a top end passer.
-
I mean he's lizard people flat earth crazy, so I just don't know! Well, okay, not really. I don't see it happening either. I just like the guy.
-
He grew up a Bills fan and he's insane. (I'm skeptical, but I'd love to see him back to replace Roberts and/or McKenzie.)
-
That has nothing to do with anything. He is set to earn 7m regardless. If his playing time bonus is over 11 games, then it will be hit against next years cap because he didn't do that last year so it's "unlikely to be earned." Had he played all 16 last year, they would have to pay out* the bonus now because "likely to be earned" is leveled against the current cap. Everyone expects him to finish the season. It has nothing to do with expecting him to play fewer games to save money. * edit: they would have to count it against the cap now, not pay it out. https://frontofficenfl.com/2020/05/25/2020-nfl-cba-explained-contract-incentives-ltbe-nltbe/
