I will agree that at times he looks stiff and unathletic when he throws, but nobody can deny that he's also made some very pretty throws too.
I think he can get the job done but I would like to see him be less careful, especially when we're behind. Maybe the coaches have confused him by drilling the "don't turn it over" mantra into him so hard.
Agree 100%. Thought I'd like the blue pants on the road, but white on white is much sharper looking.
If they keep the blue road pants in the closet permanently, I think they'll have succeeded in elevating their uniforms to the NFL's top tier.
Is a player that in successive weeks fumbles away the game, then tips a relatively easy reception for an interception, and in both weeks minimizes the impact of those plays, a good player that a 4-9 team should keep? How does this fit into Marrone's template of "accountability"?
Who among us hasn't been wrong in our assessment of a player? Which NFL GMs haven't been wrong?
Who among us hasn't changed our views about a player? Which NFL GMs haven't changed their views of a player?
The only difference between a columnist and the rest of us is that they have to put all their opinions on paper (or the web) for all to see and dig up years after the fact.
My own opinion of Stevie has wavered over the years, but at this point he has minimized his own costly mistakes two weeks in a row, in fact is almost in denial about how those mistakes impacted the game. That is the antithesis of leadership. You could live with that occasionally if the Bills were in first place, but for a team still learning how to win, you simply can't have that from one of your highest paid guys. Stevie must be purged, and I believe he will be, at a time that's most advantageous to the Bills.
There may have been a serious point to the OP's post. To that I would respond, hasn't the NFL draft order system, revenue sharing and the salary cap addressed most of the inequity concerns that can be addressed? What other aspects of low market/high market is correctable?
If I was his coach, or yours, my attitude would be, fine. You can sit and I'll find someone who will sacrifice their body to make a play to help us win. There are many waiting in the wings to take your place.
Why would either of these guys be cut? CJ is not playing well but hasn't ever shown a bad attitude. The same with Gilmore, except he's playing better recently. In my opinion, Stevie's shown himself to be the weak link and clearly hasn't shown he deserves his big salary. His casual attitude after messing up recently is wearing thin. He'll be the one to go.
This is absolutely right. Accountability with no action behind it is just meaningless talk.
There was chatter on Schopp and the bulldog this afternoon that Chris Brown suggested some sort of purge may be coming. I can't help but think of Stevie, especially considering his post game comments. Talk about no accountability - is that what the Bills get for $6 mil a year? Not if I was GM.
Ah, so it's planned failure. How do the Mario, Lawson, Kiko, Carpenter, and Branch additions fit into this plan?
Did Russ also slip those by the other signatories, i.e., Erie County and NYS? Or are they in on the plan too?
I don't understand the "Marrone as crony" charge. Many of Brandon's critics dismiss him as just a marketing guy, but if this is the case, how is hiring a crony who loses good marketing?
I agree about Stevie, he doesn't have the fortitude you need to build your team around and at his salary, will most likely be cut.
