The general consensus is that the pro bowl is complete BS, see Rodger Saffold. Whereas The All-pro team is legit, the real deal. Tremain has not been an all-pro, though he has gotten votes in the past.

Campbell feels like a guy who is going to be drafted by the Steelers or the Patriots or Seahawks or something and be the best linebacker in the league for 10 years and it will annoy me every day. We seem to ignore these types of blue-chippers, but as Doc mentioned, hopefully, the Kuechly connection pushes the envelope. You will have to take him at 27 though. He won't get to our round 2 pick imo. As crazy as it sounds, I could see Ron Rivera and Washington taking him at 16. Ideally, you can trade back a bit and take Campbell or Simpson. Nice little article on Campbell: https://buffalonews.com/sports/bills/iowas-jack-campbell-is-a-middle-linebacker-nfl-scouts-destined-to-love/article_4159d946-b933-11ed-ad5c-2f2d2aa26cab.html

That is definitely Campbell imo. Simpson is kind of still learning the in box position, but his instincts are awesome as well, he just isn't as plug-and-play as Campbell imo. Simpson is probably the better playmaker.

I think they salivate over Simpson. I think that he their flavor of modern coverage backer. He may seem on the smaller side, but he's the same as Lavonte David, a bit taller. I prefer Campbell, but it's close. I really think Campbell is going to be special.

So I distinctly remember that they drafted Lane Johnson to be Peters' replacement and I was trying to remember why, but I couldn't so I had to look it up. Johnson was drafted in 2013. The fact that the Eagles were drafting in the top 5 was because they had a terrible season in 2012. They had a meh season in 2011 - Vince Young's dream team- after drafting a terrible guard in the first round Danny Watkins, and Sean McDermott was the scapegoat firing. So why were they so bad in 2012? Juan Castillo defensive coordinator. Also, in the spring of 2012, Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon. A couple of months later, he re-ruptures his Achilles and King Dunlap is their starting LT all year and he is awful. Jason Kelce was also hurt. The Eagles go 4-12 and Andy Reid gets fired. So fast forward to the 2013 draft, the Eagles aren't sure if a 30-year-old Peters is going to recover and aren't sure if he will still be good. Achilles injuries are tough for OL and especially for a guy who is 330+ and relies on his athletic ability. They draft Johnson with the intention of him replacing Peters, but Peters makes a miraculous recovery and actually continues to play well with Johnson at RT. As the years go by, Johnson expects to eventually move to LT, but Peters sticks around until he is like 38 years old and the Eagles don't want to move Johnson at that point. My overall point is that Johnson is the best RT in football, who should be playing LT, but circumstances put him on the right side. A great pick in an extremely weak first round, the Eagles also came away with Zach Ertz and Jordan Poyer in that draft. Johnson is the example of when picking a non-LT goes right, but the Eagles had every intention of having Johnson be their left tackle. I would say that the best "pure RT" 1st round pick who has worked out is Jack Conklin. He has been hurt a lot, but there is no denying that he is an excellent player. Another I would say is Tristan Wirfs, who was also drafted with the intention of eventually moving him to LT, which it looks like the Bucs will do this year. Good point on Landon Dickerson. With that in mind, it seems that most people feel like there are only 15 first-round players in this draft. The value of pick 27 is really the second round. Because of that, I won't riot if they pick a non-LT OL, however, I would prefer they use some of those mid-round picks on guards etc. Obviously, the draft is a crap shoot and I understand that most guys can be boom or bust. When you take a non elite non-LT in the first round there is no boom with the bust, and that is why I am typically against it.

I hear you. At the end of the day, we all want the same thing here. They have to find good players and try to hit on the few picks they have regardless of round etc.
-
Got another? I mean c’mon. You cherry pick 1 dude and that’s it and you are telling me to try harder? Johnson was also drafted with the idea that he would move to LT, but Jason Peters lasted longer than they thought. It was also an extremely weak first round. Also if you bothered to read the thread, I actually brought him. So you try harder man.
-
I would live with it, but man that would suck.
-
But that doesn’t have to be in the first round. Lane Johnson was a top 5 pick in a quarterback-less draft. The rest? LT 7th round LG 2nd round C 6th round RG 3rd round Find good players who fit your scheme. Aside from that terrible Andre Dillard pick and Danny Watkins, both terrible busts in the first round, the Eagles have spent draft capital on their defensive line men and WRs.

You could not possibly be more wrong man. You want to talk about knowledge? I’m talking about facts. I’m not going be a child and say “stupid” but here’s a lesson….. First you are ignoring the fact that Brandon Beane was the director of football operations and assistant GM there. You think he had no influence on the draft? Fact….if you go back from 2000 to 2022 the Panthers drafted a first round linemen 3 times. In 2003 the Panthers draft LT Jordan Gross. In 2022 the draft LT Ewonu. In that 22 year span they used one 1st round pick on a non LT ONE time and he was a left tackle they moved to the right side. They draft Jeff Otah who they trade up for as a second first round pick after taking Jonathan Stewart earlier. Otah winds up being one of the biggest busts in NFL history and only plays in 29 games. Beane starts working as director of football operations in 2008, so let’s take it from there for positions they draft in the first round. Here is some factual information: 2008: RB, LT (Otah they moved to right) 2009: they dont have a first because the Otah trade, they draft Edge in 2nd. 2010: they trade down and take QB Jimmy Clausen 2011: QB Cam Newton 2012: LB 2013: DT 2014: WR 2015: LB 2016: DT 2017: RB Any of this look familiar? To think these guys didn’t learn their draft philosophies from their previous stop ludicrous. Obviously, the Bills have not drafted any OL in the first and their highest drafted OL is their 2nd round LT Dion Dawkins who was drafted before Beane got here. (Edit Ford was drafted higher but not here anymore and terrible.) Just to add, Cam’s line was not set when he got there. It was made up of Gross (who retired after 2013) 2nd round pick Ryan Khalil, and Otah (Otah only played 4 games with Cam). Then a bunch of later drafted guys and UDFAs. The only first round pick OL starter on their Super Bowl team was Michael Oher who was a left tackle and drafted by another team. So again, these guys aren’t drafting a RT or IOL in the first round unless a generational talent falls in their lap. In the 25 years that Beane has had real power and say, it was done once and it was a massive mistake. Whether it worked or any of us agree with them is irrelevant. I am stating, based on fact, that this is how they run things and the data supports that.

None of us are! But we like to think we are! I was excited about Carter and he just had a terrible workout. So I think he will drop a ton.
-
I am saying that the tackles who will be available at pick 27 will not be able to step in week 1 and be better than Brown. Maybe in a year or two. Those guys at the top of the draft like Johnson and Skoronski could step in right away, but like I thought with Jonah Williams, I think Skoronski is a guard.
-
Ah thank you
-
Nope didn’t say the were mediocre. Read my posts you will see I am very supportive. I am simply saying that using high end draft picks on RTs and OGs is the path to being mediocre. We have never done that and not going to start now. Not sure why that was confusing…. They won’t do it. Fans can have their opinions, or they can pay attention to how these guys build a team. Drafting linemen in the first round at non valuable positions who aren’t as good as what you have makes no sense.
-
I disagree. I think there are really good players at LB all over the draft. I think Campbell and Simpson are 1-2, Sanders is a unicorn who could get drafted before both, but may not be ready to start right away, then I think there is a little gap, I love Sewell, Henley…there are some very good players who are better than the guys from last year imo.

That’s just knocking him for being a big white guy from Iowa. His three cone was better than Isaiah McKenzie’s. He has the total package.
-
And I think that is why they don’t make the move to draft RT early. You aren’t going to find a rookie who will come in and be better than Brown right out of the gate. Maybe Pete Skoronski, though I think he is a guard. As it currently stands I think the will be looking for offensive pkaymakers, a LB, and DBs
