No way a TE should be the Bills' pick in the 1st round with the OL being a much higher priority.  A number of other positions are greater needs such as WR, CB, and maybe DL.

Agreed (I think OL is fixed in FA and defense is drafted early). I'm just saying this two Noah Fant threads so far and we are months away from the draft. My fear is that there will be many, many, many more threads advocating picking the dude in the top ten.

The defense is mediocre in sacks, interceptions, and third down percentage. They are downright awful in red zone defense. They are otherwise top 10 in all other meaningful metrics.

McDermott and Beane have made good progress with the defense from year 1 to year 2. But more work clearly needs to be done this offseason:

    1. Find a capable #2 CB opposite White.

    2. Find an annual double-digit sack DE opposite Hughes.

    3. Find a replacement for Kyle Williams.

    4. Find a replacement for Lorenzo Alexander.

So that's 4 starters needed. This draft is absolutely loaded with talent at DE and DT, and these guys have shown that they know how to draft CB's and LB's. There is also free agency to find replacements.

The difficulty is in trying to find 4 starters on defense while simultaneously overhauling the offense. It can be done with $90 million in cap space and 10 draft picks. But it won't be easy.

I definitely think a reciever, tight end, center, and right tackle come in free agency. I think the draft should, and will be mostly defensive players.

    What pass rush

Kyle had a chance on the big touchdown through to Anderson and for some reason dove at Darnold's legs. If he just kept running, we would be talking about a Bills win today.

  3. I know there isn't a ton of love for Bodine, but he's a natural center. There has been a huge drop off since he left the lineup. Ryan Groy is just so stiff. He doesn't work there. They are probably better off signing a street free agent like Dillon Day and just throwing him in there. Groy lacks the athletic ability and foot quickness to play the position. I think the pass protection has gotten noticeably worse since he has been in there and it was way worse in the beginning of the season until he lost his job to Bodine.

Sign Sean Harlow off the Falcons practice squad, Jake Eldrenkamp off the Browns, JJ Dielman off the Rams, Anthony Fabiano off the Eagles. My point is that all of these guys are natural centers, who are better fits at the position than Ryan Groy.

  4. I think they need a penetrating three technique. A Geno Atkins-Aaron Donald type. I know those guys don't grow on trees, but that's what the defense is missing. I love Kyle, but he isn't that anymore. He's a nice rotational player who looks gassed at times. Harrison Phillips or Jordan Phillips....neither fits the bill. People have mentioned Sheldon Richardson in free agency and that's the kind of player this defense needs. Maybe that's Quinnen Williams or Ed Oliver. They also need more pass rush and improvement from Tremaine.

I think there is a chance we go after Richardson. Our draft board is going to be, imo:

    Bosa

    Q. Williams, Ed Oliver, J. Simmons, Brown

    Josh Allen

That's where the value is going to be in the draft. Forget about top ten wide receivers, guards and right tackles. Those will all be reaches we will regret. A defensive front seven player is probably our first pick. I think offensive lineman come in free agency.

  5. Agreed 100%. These games are all about learning and development of our quarterback and I think there is a lot to be learned about this loss. He's a one man wrecking crew and his teammates need to step up. Sure he made some mistakes, two very bad throws, but again he can learn from those. I'm not a tanking guy, but I have no problem losing competitive games down the stretch, where we wind up with better draft position.

Saying that, you now know they'll pick a defensive lineman...

    ?????????

    ?

You know it's going to be a defensive tackle or Josh Allen.

Wouldn't u like to have Ebron now? I was hoping the Bills would of signed him last offseason. At the end of last yr he played very well in the last 4gms.

TEs usually take 3 to 4 yrs to develop into difference makers Ebron has followed in Vernon Davis career arch. I expect the same if we draft any TE this yr. Especially if its Fant.  I agree with this pk if we hit on Fant then the sky is the limit for this offense moving forward. Most elite offenses have dynamic TEs that are matchup nightmares.

Id love to have Enron sure. What I don't want is a projection tight end that I pick in the top ten who is non existent for four years, so I reject his 5th year option and he goes on to a new team where he actually makes an impact.

Id rather be the team who signs Fant in 4 years as a FA.

I believe the Jets will go with an offensive guru, not an O line coach.

I think the Jets will only hire a guy with previous head coaching experience and Marrone still has a positive reputation in terms of offense because he was Sean Payton's offensive coordinator that one time. I don't think his reputation has taken a hit at all because Bortles is the scapegoat. They will not hire another nice guy players' coach like Bowles. They will hire an ***** like Marrone.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why New England would not extend a left tackle who has been playing well and would cost them next to nothing.  If he actually does become available, I would certainly take a look, though at that size, I think I'd consider moving him to the RT spot.

Because they are cheap and they have Isaiah Wynn on IR. It's how they do things. They just don't pay very many people.

  9. Love Lorax and want to resign him...but you know who the perfect replacement is? Josh Allen from Kentucky. Can play off the ball, on the ball, can line up as a defensive end in nickel defense. He's the perfect hybrid player for his defense. Not the athlete that Shaq Thompson was coming out, but he's a much better football player.

First Josh Allen is working out. Might as well get the other one. Heck let's sign the backup center Josh Allen, formerly of the Bucs to corner the market on Josh Allens.

No way.  Imagine the NY media if the Jets hired a guy fired by Jacksonville after a double digit loss season.  The GM would be run out of town on a rail.

The Jets are going to play to the media & hire a big name like one of the Harbaughs or McCarthy.  They're not bringing in a rookie coach again unless they feel that Darnold needs continuity and promote Bates.

Oh, I don’t know. I just can’t see Marrone choosing to simply quit and walk away for another coaching job.

I think they will have one of those mutual "parting of the ways" and I truly believe that they can spin everything to be Blake Bortles' fault. Marrone gets out of this thing clean in my opinion because his quarterback blows. I think the media and such see a good coach who has been let down by his ***** quarterback, who he did not draft btw.

  11. Marrone is going to the Jets I think. I think he wants out of Jacksonville and wants to go be with his boy Mike Maccagnan. They Jets hired their coach and GM separately, which obviously is dumb. I believe that Marrone is the guy Mike Maccagnan wants to be his head coach. If Marrone isn't fired he will probably quit anyway to go to the Jets.

dont see the point in both hump and conley,  unles you think 1 of them is a number 1 wr.

jones, mckenzie and foster will all be here next year, so you need a 1 and a 2/3

I think Conley has #1 upside. He's buried on the depth chart but still has 5 touchdowns and has had some big games. He's ready to break out. Humphries is a true 2/3 and would fill out a nice corps with Conley, Jones, Humphries and Foster. McKenzie to me is more of a gadget player, but he has his uses.

I think this regime is done with diva recievers. Conley is a supremely hard worker, a humble and very intelligent guy who is a big, uber athlete. He's my guy. Humphries is just a solid player who moves chains in the vein of an Emanuel Sanders type. Ideally, I want both with Jones, Foster, McKenzie and who ever we draft.

  13. I know many people want to upgrade here, but does everyone realize that Lorax is the 2 down SAM backer? Half the time, when we actually have three linebackers in the game we are in an under look where Lorax is playing on the line. The majority of his playing time comes as a pass rusher in the nickel. Yes it makes sense to get younger and more athletic, but we are not often in base 4-3 looks. Lorax has played very little off ball SAM this year.

  14. For sure. He is playing exactly where he should which is as a 2 down SAM and a nickel pass rusher. He does a lot of very nice things for our defense and special teams. I know a lot of people aren't into intangible stuff, but teh leadership and mentoring he offers is worth every penny, and he can still play at a high level.
