I just don't understand how the Jets can continue to ignore edge players. They have none at all. Unless they feel havoc up the middle and Williams' scheme will cause enough pressure. I'd actually be happy if they passed on Josh Allen. I still think they are trying to coerce a trade up from a team in the 6-12 range who had their heart set on Oliver.

I was already a little scared of him, just has that boom or bust feel, so I don't want him to be in play at 9.
Doesn't mean I'd drop him from my board entirely though. If he were there at 40 (which I understand is very unlikely) I'd be very intrigued.
The Raiders did well taking Maurice Hurst much later than he was expected to go last year due to a similar issue.
The Hurst situation is a great comparison. I really can't believe he went in the fourth. I can't see that happen to Sweat, but who knows at this point.

Your evaluations are solid, so maybe I am wrong on this. My sense is Sweat on defensive side is the same boom/bust risk that Metcalf is on the offensive side. I'd rather take the shot with Metcalf personally.
If they take Metcalf or Sweat over Hockenson I think I will be dissapointed. I hope Oliver drops. That's the guy I want. But you are right that there is risk with both. If they take Metcalf over Sweat I won't be mad. I just think the Red flags with Metcalf are too much for the top ten. Lack of production, short area quickness, injuries, drops. When do receivers like that make it in the NFL? He strikes me as one of those guys who is going to flash tremendous ability, but is always going to have a soft tissue injuries. Pulled hamstring, tight groin etc etc. like a really big John Ross.

I think people are afraid of the heart stuff and rightfully so. I think this is all raked stuff to get him to somebody in the teens. I'd take him at 9 if Oliver is gone.

I don't love either of these guys. I'd be pretty dissapointed with either. If Williams is not a sure thing at LT then I don't want him in the top ten. If that's where they are going to play him and feel like he is going to be elite, fine. Metcalf is a reach there and a little too boom or bust for me. I wouldn't hate it, but I'd be a bit dissapointed. I think this entire draft process has been a massive smokescreen for who they really want, and that's probably TJ Hockenson or somebody we are thinking about like Byron Murphy. I still think it's Oliver or Sweat.

His arms are like 1/8 inch shorter than Dillard and people aren’t questioning him at OT. I mean I just think if a guy can play he can play.
I think Jax is going to take him though
Actually Williams arms are 1/8 longer than Dillard's. Dillard's are actually shorter. Both come in at under 34 which is a problem for a lot of NFL people. No one says that about Dillard, which is weird.

So I'll probably get killed for this, but I don't think playing left tackle is so much about analytics. Yes you should study your opponents and their moves but this seems a bit much for me. If I'm coaching offensive linemen I want guys who can initiate with strength and react with agility. I never want guys anticipating a move, because when you cheat, and you are wrong, you've lost. Playing left tackle is about quick reaction, great feet, long arms, and a strong, quick punch. If you can do that at a high level you can be a great left tackle and be dumb as a doorknob. Centers need to be the thinkers. Left tackles needs to react, be dancing bears as Mike Mayock used to say. So I think it's cool that Jonah works as hard as he does and studies the way that he does. But his arms are still short and he does struggle with speed rushers. Perhaps studying gives him the edge he needs because he lacks length and things, but I think it's overkill, and I don't think it will help much in the NFL. A guy like Jerry Hughes would embarrass him no matter how much he studies. Just my 2 cents.

I watched Blake Cashman blow up the combine a bit and didn't think much of it. He apparently visited with the team and he's my draft crush. I mentioned in the draft visitors thread, at 6-1, 237 ran a 4.5, 37.5 inch vert, 124 on the broad and 6.95 three cone. All really good numbers.
He's a former walk on who played a lot of special teams and eventually earned a scholarship. Also a former high school DB. He reminds me a bit of Matt Milano, a guy who spent a lot of time in the other teams' backfield. He can cover, and has great instincts. His tape against WSU, Ohio State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin are all really impressive. He played a lot of Mike and will at Minnesota, and I think he'd be the perfect backup at both spots in the NFL. I don't know where he is drafted, and he isn't Devin White, but after White and Bush he's probably up there with a lot of the other 4-3 backers. He gives you a guy to push Milano, who is versatile, and will be awesome on special teams right off the bat. I'd take him with one of our 4ths.

Knowing the worst things about Frank Clark may allow us to get him a little cheaper too.
Yeah I think so. I think intimate knowledge allows you to know exactly what you are getting, which lessens the risk a lot and gives you what you need to know to make a proper offer. Meaning, I don't think you will overpay because you know exactly what the guy is worth.
-
People defintely need to get over the off the field stuff. Again, the process is not about getting a bunch of choirboys together. Anyway, Dan Morgan and Heath Farwell have intimate knowledge of the player, more than we will ever know from Google, so if they feel he can help the team and the compensation is fair, they will make the move. I don't know that it's likely, but if it doesn't happen, it won't be because of off the field stuff.

Seems like nearly every year the Jets force themselves to take an interior lineman and end up having to let the previous guy walk because they’re overloaded at the position. They did this with Mo Wilks and Richardson. Let them do it again with Q or Oliver - I don’t see them giving Leonard Williams and another interior DT each a $100m contract in 3-5 years.
They are stuck in 4-3, 3-4 purgatory. Constantly switching. Now you have a bunch or personnel in the front seven that don't match what Gregg does. I know they say they are going to keep a 3-4 concept but Gregg has been a tried and true 4-6 guy for a long time. I know if his very varied in his approach, but the Jets continually churn through schemes and draft players who don't quite fit. Leonard Williams, Sheldon Richardson, Darron Lee, Quinton Coples are all 4-3 guys drafted to play in a 3-4 for some reason. So yeah the Jets are dumb.

I think, if they do go corner it's going to be Byron Murphy. Perfect zone guy for the scheme.

I watch N'Keal Harry and see a guy who looks a lot like a mid-career Eric Moulds in terms of size/speed/quickness/power . His measurables are close too. Same type of big, springy but not super quick or fast WR. That's OK..........but Moulds numbers were inflated from 2002-2005 because he was the "#1" and was getting fed constantly even as his ability to separate(and subsequently ypr) steadily declined so I wouldn't expect the same production from a young guy trying to earn his way with that skillset. But more importantly it seems the league is trending toward quicker/faster types than it is contested catch guys. And when you compare the similar measurables of Moulds and Harry it's important to remember that corners are bigger and faster now than they were when Moulds entered the league. I think Harry will struggle to get open consistently.
I like Harry. I agree that he won't get a ton of separation, but he's so great on contested catches that I don't think it really matters. He was saying on NFL network, that he feels that even if he is covered, 9 times out of ten he is going to find a way to come down with the ball. I feel like we need a guy who excels at making contested catches.

Adam Schaefer wouldn't be advertising if the Seahawks weren't desperate. Kansas city and Indianapolis are involved they are offering picks in the 60's ish range. The jets want him but would need to trade back now. That weekends the jets strength in return. If the bills are involved they will get him for 40. I'm surprised gruden not all over this must be drafting a rusher at 4
Gruden did not want to give a crapload of money to Khalil Mack. He isn't going to turn around and give draft picks and a crapload of money to Clark. Gruden is crazy, but not that crazy.

I’m good with that! ?
Its an insane hire when you hire a spineless dude like Gase as a head coach. He's a weirdo and a know it all who players hate. Williams is old school tough as nails who players love. Seems like a combustible situation.

Cashman has McDermott traits. He's a former walk on special teamer and a former safety who ran a 4.5 at the combine and timed a 6.95 in the three cone, 37.5 vert and 124 broad. Also studly...Like a bigger Matt Milano. He's a Will linebacker who could probably play some Mike and projects to be really good on special teams. I think he's a no brainer if he's there in the 4th or 5th as a nice depth piece at linebacker who will push Milano.

So Gregg will over rule the HC and GM - interesting.
I think this is a smokescreen. But I will say that both Gase and McCaggnan are huge wusses. Gregg will take over that team by the end of the year. He's an ass but he's also and Alpha and the players follow him. He will undermine Gase every step of the way

I think all that stuff about the Jets loving Oliver is a smokescreen to get people to trade up. Not sure I believe they will take him at three. I think they really do want to trade down and they have to create a narrative about who will be gone. I still think they take Josh Allen and I think they are crazy if they don't.
I think the rumors of us taking Oliver comes from rumors about what is happening in front of us. I think some of these draftniks are plugged into what some teams are going to do and the logical conclusion is that a player like Oliver might be on the board and will clearly be BPA at a position of need for Buffalo. This is one of those serendipitous type situations that Beane talked about where need and the board line up. Just my 2 cents. I think we want Oliver or Sweat. If one of those guys is on the board, I think we run to the podium. If not, I think we get into trade down talks or something. I think there is also a chance that the regime is all in on Hockenson or Metcalf, but my gut tells me Oliver or Sweat.

He’s lower risk but he’s not as good. Give me the better player. This team can afford the contract, just get better.
I don't think people realize how good Clark is. They see Ansah was drafted high and think he's close to as good. It isn't even close. Clark is really good, not Khalil Mack good, but probably a top ten DE and Ansah is basically Trent Murphy.

Remind me again...do we like Mel this week?
I think I gotta like Mel for a little while becuase he's all in on Josh Allen. And we have no Mayock anymore so that changes things a bit for me.
I used to to watch the NFL network for draft coverage but over the past few years they have shown so many commercials with way less highlights and analysis. I hate to say, but ESPN has actually done much better, especially on days two and three.

I think I’m off the Hock train. Well, I think the Bills are. They don’t usually draft guys they don’t spend pre-draft time with.
I find their lack of meeting with him interesting
I do think it is possible that they have gone out of their way to keep their meeting with him secret. I think he is the kind of guy in this draft that you hide your interest in. No one seems to really know where he is going to go because no one has tipped their hand in terms of interest in him. That keeps people from trading up in front of you to get him and that Detroit at 8 is prime position for a trade up. I think Oliver or Sweat are the pick, if they aren't there Hock or Metcalf. I'm thinking one of those four, idk. It's also possible this regime is all in on Metcalf or Hock. If they draft a right tackle or Dillard I will be very dissapointed

I think you could do a two this year and a two next year. Maybe a fourth this year. This gives the Seahawks a reasonable package of picks and more than what the Chiefs got for Ford.
