Whatever happened to Nkemdiche?   He was a character concern I remember then showed up at the draft with a crew of guys dressed like mobsters.

He's been pretty inconsistent and hurt as well. He was finally showing some signs of life as a 3 Tech in a 4-3. Seemed like a poor fit in the 3-4. Then he tore his ACL I believe. I actually always liked him as a prospect, but I'm not surprised he has struggled to find consistency. Could be an interesting buy low depending on what happens in Arizona.

  2. One other thing about Jonah Williams, if you make him a center, I think he could be the best in league. He's a technician with good feet, extremely smart with great intangibles. I'd be interesting in making him our offensive line anchor for the next ten years paired up with Josh Allen. He'd be an elite center imo.

I like Morse too but note he has had a few concussions...KC have cap concerns so I think he will be available,,

I agree that they need to develop guys as well but these late round guys require a year or two time two  and Josh needs the help now.,

What do you think of Saffold in FA? Also any later round Center and Guards caught your eye to draft?

The funny thing with KC is that they claimed Austin Reiter off waivers in September and he played well in Morse' absence. He was available to us and we didn't put in the claim, and he is better than anything we have in the interior. But I digress, Reiter actually signed a not so bad contract extension with KC already. I think they really like him and are going to let Morse walk. Jordan Devey is another journeyman type guy who played well for KC and is going to be a free agent.

I think you you have to be concerned with concussions with Morse, but he's such a massive upgrade that it is worth the risk. Maybe there are incentives put in there and insurance policies etc. having a solid backup like Bodine helps alleviate the risk.

Saffold is going back back to the Rams imo. I mean he's been there his whole career and had a ton of ups and downs. He's finally having some sustained success. He even came out in the media and said he wants to stay and would give a hometown discount to to Rams. Aaron Kromer did wonders for him. We should have kept him around. Great coach.

I haven't dug deep enough at this point into the draft, and I do like a lot of the guys talked about, I just don't like them in the first round outside a trade down of some sort.

  4. One thing I will say about centers, I really like Mitch Morse, Paradis, and even Nick Easton.

I think we go after Morse as a Reid guy as there is familiarality there. He is also a very tall center at 6-6, which doesn't work for all quarterbacks, but would be fine for Josh Allen.

Easton I like as well. I think he winds up with Pat Shurmur and the Giants.

I think Paradis goes to to the Jets or stays in Denver. The Jets are the team with a center need who have more cap than us. Colts don't need one.

If if you miss out on Morse I think you are okay with Bodine if you sign two really good guards. Quinton Spain and Mark Glowinski come to mind. There is enough money to sign both.

At tackle you go after Daryl Williams or Josh Wells.

Btw, people who want to draft an offensive lineman in the first round, look at the guys we are talking about giving good money to.

    Paradis - 6th round

    Morse - 2nd round

    Easton - UDFA

    Spain - UDFA

    Glowinski - 4th round

    Daryl Williams - 4th round

    Josh Wells - UDFA

Its all about finding the right guys and developing them, not reaching on guys to fill holes.

So if this is the case then I’m assuming his coach from a year ago Daboll will be aware of these shortcomings and look in another direction right?

if they end up picking him and it turns out to be a reach then it would reflect poorly on Daboll..

Well honestly I will say this, if Brian Daboll thinks he's elite and is the guy, I will support it wholeheartedly. I basically stating my opinion on the guy based on what I have seen and read. But I assume Daboll knows a hell of a lot more than me as a guy with intimate knowledge of the guy. I still won't like it, but I'd support it 100%. I just don't think the difference between Dawkins and Williams is big enough to use a top ten pick.

I think Dawkins is fine and gets a bad rap here. He's been up and down at time, but he's a young player who needs to find consistency in his game.

Nor me. I think he is a 1st round pick, but he is more in the "solid long term starter" range than "elite difference maker".

And that's all I'm saying. I don't want a solid long term starter, who might not be a left tackle, in the top ten. I'm sorry, that's just no way to draft.

luckily he isnt great on paper but great on the field and ask the colts how their 6th overall Guard is doing.

Again I have no problem drafting a guard up there if they are elite. Nelson had zero flaws in his game. Elite no doubter. They aren't even in the same stratosphere. It's not an apt comparison.

What exactly are the question marks on Jonah Williams?

So many people are saying the dude is a right tackle or a guard. I even read a scouting report that says he might fit best as a center. To me, his upside is not big and his downside is move to guard. To me, if he's a right tackle or a guard you don't take him in the top ten. If he's a left tackle who isn't elite, don't take him in the top ten either. I think he's an excellent college lineman who is really going to struggle at the next level if he stays at left tackle. Anyway, copy and pasting from my long winded post in the Williams post:

Williams really is not elite. He projects to be very good, but if you really pay attention, he sounds an awful lot like Luke Joeckel. He's a technician, not a road grader, shorter arms, probably better at guard, struggles with speed rushers etc etc. Being a technician sounds good on paper, not so much when Aaron Donald or Jadeveon Clowney are smashing you in your chest. He's 6-5 301...that is long an lean and many analysts have mentioned that he's likely to weigh in at less than 300 at the draft. That's a problem.

He had a down year when literally everyone on the offense had a down year.

He's our left tackle. He'll improve. He's young and had a promising rookie year.

I'm with you. He's proven himself to be at least solid at LT. So people think we should move him to draft a guy who is probably a RT or guard who has not played in the league and has a good amount of question marks. This Williams guy is more likely to be Luke Joeckel than Joe Thomas.

Unless you are acquiring Tyron Smith or getting Joe Thomas out of retirement, Dion should stay where he is. The grass isn't always greener.

FWIW, the organization really liked Donovan Smith back in 2015. He's a FA left tackle

Smith is Tampa Bays version of Dawkins. All their fans and media people think he is medicore and that he should move to guard.

I don't think he is better than Dawkins. I don't think he is the answer, but perhaps the Bills like him more than others, as you suggested.

That highlight video isn't overly impressive. Normally when you see highlights of a 1st round OL talent (like Quenton Nelson last year), they are absolutely mauling people in games. I'm not seeing that in the vid, and even a clear hold is featured. Not saying he's not a 1st round talent, but I expected a more dominant highlight reel.

Looking forward to focusing on him vs Clemson.

You won't see a lot of that. The dude is a technician, which is code for "being good at getting in the way." He is not in the Nelson-Zach Martin class. He is not a road grader type. On top of it all he struggles against speed rushers.

Im with you. Looks like he has a chance to be a solid player. But I can't use top ten on solid. Let someone else make that mistake.

  12. I hate it for a lot of reasons.

First, if he's going to play right tackle, taking him in the top ten is not getting value. Having an elite right tackle is like putting lipstick on a pig.

Second, a lot of people are advocating drafting him to be a left tackle and moving Dawkins to guard. I hate this as well. This feels like drafting a guard in the top ten. The difference between Dawkins and Williams is minimal if anything. I'm not going to replace a guy who has been solid for two years, not perfect, but solid, with a guy who might be solid. I am very much against top ten centers, guards or right tackles. Unless they are Quentin Nelson, Zach Martin, Alex Mack like elite players. Lane Johnson turned out to be elite, but was a risky pick in a crappy draft. Conklin has been very good, but has been hurt a ton and his team still hasn't gone anywhere.

Lastly, drafting a left tackle in the top ten makes sense if the guy is elite. Williams really isn't.

Again, I like Jonah Williams and I think he will be a good player, but I do not think he is an elite prospect. I think the idea of having him sounds good on paper, but he has some flaws in his game. This isn't a slam dunk and there is not huge upside here. He's a plug and play, might be solid guy. I want upside with my top 10 pick.

Again thats me. I'm an o line guy through and through, but these are my beliefs when it come to the draft.

I think he means if Daboll gets a HC gig, which Buffalo wouldn't be able to prevent.

Yep that's what I meant. I actually think there is a chance (albeit a small one) we could lose Leslie Frazier and Daboll. A team that might want an experienced coach to right the ship, Frazier makes some sense. He'd actually make some sense for Cincinnati, Tampa, Arizona. He's very well liked and respected around the league.

There has been murmurs about Daboll, for a few years actually. I guess we shall see what happens.

  14. That's why I love Ike Boettger for his reaction yesterday. He didn't hesitate at all to jump on Kiko. I think it's huge for a UDFA who is finally getting a chance to play to run in there and get on Kiko, no hesitation. Really cool to see that edge. Centers and guard need to be nasty in there. I love it.

I would much rather give Phillips 6-8M a year on a 5 year contract and get a cheap 4th DT.

    Star

    Harrison

    Phillips

    cheap Rotational guy

I appreciate your ambition here, but Harrison did nothing this year. He looked small and overmatched. Neither he or Jordan Phillips are starters. I think a three Tech is a glaring need here. McCoy, Sheldon Richardson, Grady Jarrett, those types of guys should be on the radar for us imo.
