I like to rank the top players I’d like the Bills to draft, so since we are drafting @ 9 it makes sense to at least rank them 1-9. Here are mine

    1. Nick Bosa

    2.Josh Allen

    3. Quinnen Williams

    4. Devin White

    5. Rashan Gary

    Trade Down

    6. Ja’Waan Taylor

    7. Ed Oliver

    8. Jonah Williams

    9.Greg Little

    Where’d I go wrong

None of the offensive players belong.

    Bosa

    Q. Williams

    Allen

    Oliver

    White

    J. Simmons

    C. Ferrell

    D. Brown

    R. Gary

    C. Wilkins

    J. Polite

    M. Sweat

    Greedy Williams

    Deionte Thompson

Something like that in my mind. All of those guys are better than any of the offensive players.

Just read that Boetteger tore his Achilles in September 2017, so was not 100% during otas or camp.

Seems to have good technique and may be a solid surprise (quicker & stronger) for us in 2019.

He would have definitely been a draftable prospect if he didn't have that injury. There is a little pedigree there. I like his potential.

  3. I know it's the dreaded Panthers connection, but My first target would be Ricky Proehl. Not sure he would want to leave his business endeavors to do it.

Another guy I think would be interesting is Wes Welker. He was a great route runner and is well versed in the offensive system. He just spent a year on the Texans staff as an offensive assistant. He's young, but makes a lot of sense.

Shawn Jefferson formerly of the Dolphins is another interesting, youngish former NFL player. He's credited with a lot of Jarvis Landry's development.

Jerricho Cotchery is an assistant receiver coach for the Panthers. Another youngish coach who had a successful NFL career despite having little talent. He succeeded by running good routes and catching the ball. He also played for Beane and McDermott, and Brian Daboll when he coached on the Jets staff.

I like the the idea of guys who were former NFL players who had successful careers, despite not being supremely talented. They are typically good at teaching the positional nuances needs to be successful.

I could see the Pats going after TJ Hockenson. Hockenson is the closest thing to Gronk to come out of college in nearly a decade.

Truth be told this is the #1 guy I want in this years draft.

Trade down out of 9 to the late teens (say 17, 18, 19), hopefully pick up a 2019 2nd, 2020 2nd and some mid round picks this year as well.

TJ is the best TE all around balanced TE to come out since Gronk.

I like him a lot as well. You know what's crazy is between Daboll, Rob Boras, and now Bobby Johnson we have tight end experts on staff yet we can't find one. I hope they find a way to target Hockenson.

I hope not. He’s the second best lineman on the team and would be an ideal “swing” tackle backup long term, IMO. Sirles certainly didn’t show enough to pencil in as the new starter or even the primary backup without proving it in camp first.

If I'm the Bills I go after Daryl Williams as a starter at right tackle and add a guy like Josh Wells as the swing guy. Wells has played a good amount of left tackle over the years in Jacksonville. Mills as a backup is fine, but I'd worry about him as a swing guy if he actually had to go in a game as a left tackle.

I assume Daboll is familiar enough with him to know if he’s worth picking him that high.

One thing I have mentioned, and I think I did in this thread somewhere, is that I think Williams could be a really good center. He's got great technique etc, but is bad against speed rushes and gets overpowered at times. This really isn't as much of a problem inside. He is also very smart and has great intangibles. I think he's a center.

I'd be willing to draft him in a trade down and I would make him my center.

Per Tony Pauline, he has spoken to at least a dozen sources who do not think he’s a top 10 pick

Charlie Campbell from WalterFootball has been saying this for awhile too. From December: http://walterfootball.com/nflhotpress/article/Teams-Project-Jonah-Williams-in-Mid--to-Late-Round-1

Ive felt this way for a while now. He'd be a huge reach and the amount of talent you'd pass on in terms of defensive linemen would makes this pick even more ludicrous. Never draft non elite linemen in the top ten. Never!

Well I have to say Chris brown, knew what he was talking about when he said McDermott, was looking to  get younger Coaches.  I like the moves of special teams and offensive line you get a younger perspective on things,  time will only tell if it works.  I only wish Frazier would have left because I am starting not to like his out dated cover two.

The one thing that I will say in Frazier' defense is that the players absolutely love him. He is a well respected Tony Dungy disciple. I think he just needs to be a bit more aggressive like they were in the Miami game.

I understand, I'm not saying that McCoy replaces Phillips from a position perspective rather a financial one.  I don't think it's wise to spend that much money between the three of them in the DT position.  Don't get me wrong, DT's are extremely important I just don't like tying up so much in one area.

I gotcha. I don't think Phillips is going to cost too much, but I may be wrong. McCoy should get a reasonable deal.

  10. 1 minute ago, Magox said:

If you get McCoy, you don't get Jordan Phillips.

Not sure I agree with that. They play very different positions and Phillips is a depth player. He isn't a full time starter. McCoy is a great player and he's just 30 years old. You could easily sign both.

I'd rather draft Williams. Oliver, Simmons, Wilkins, but I would take McCoy in a heartbeat.

Any concern about how poorly the Pats OLine played in 2014 and 2015?  They had a hard time protecting Brady, who was hit a lot those years.  The next year (2016) Scarnecchia came out of retirement and the Pats won the SB with much better OLine protection.  The Pats run an EP system, as do we, though I'm thinking theirs is much more advanced.  I don't know what Indy runs.  You don't see any potential problems with pass blocking under DeGugielmo?

I think it's a fair concern, but I will say that he was working with a lot of young players in 2015. Shaq Mason and Tre Jackson were rookies. Cam Fleming was young. David Andrews was a rookie I believe and he was awful. And Nate Solder got hurt early. I think it's a blip on his career, but it would not concern me going forward. He seems to be what the line here need and he's likely to be in lock step with Daboll.

He is not a Vlad Ducasse guy either. When he was with the Jets there was some internal conflict because the higher ups were making him play Ducasse over Slauson.

  12. I like the idea of a young guy with some fresh ideas, who was a special teams captain in his career and won a super bowl with some dynamic special teams. I like this.

He also played for Leslie Frazier when he was the DC in Minnesota. So this is more of a Frazier connection than it is a Panthers connection.

  13. Dave DeGugielmo is old school and abrasive. He is the anti Castillo and he is exactly what this line needs. He wouldn't stand for a guy like Dawkins getting comfortable. But the guys who play for him love him as he gives them a bit of rough edge.

    Cool article: https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/nfl/colts/2018/09/21/how-dave-deguglielmo-has-brought-indianapolis-colts-offensive-line-together/1370061002/

Now I don't know if he brings Glowinski, but his guy is Matt Slauson. He's been his guy for a while and would fit nicely between Mitch Morse and Dawkins. I like him because he is the complete opposite of Castillo.

He also has some insight into how the Colts gashed our defense in embarrassing fashion. I really want a return to a power running game.

I am still baffled someone didn't literally murder him on the field for this action.

How on earth did Preston Brown not jump on his back and wrench his helmet around 4-5 times and beat his head into the ground relentlessly?

I just do not get it. Soft.

    Aaron Hernandez was not available.

The Vikes barely won with AP (4 winning seasons in 10).  And they had a much better organization than the Browns.  And again, they signed Jamal Lewis prior to that draft and weren't going to take a RB.

    It's because they didn't have a quarterback.

Quarterback, scheme, defense in that order. Everyone else are role players, running backs, linemen, receivers.

  16. I gotta say I am kind of with Mr. Weo. And I think I get what he's saying.

Having dominate top ten linemen but a lack of overall talent, like Tennessee with Conklin and Lewan, is like putting lipstick on a pig. It's cool that they are good and PFF likes them, it doesn't mean anything because the team doesn't win. It's kind of the same argument as the Joe Thomas situation. Like it or not, linemen are role players. They can put a team over the top, but they aren't superstars by any means. And I am a big line guy. I was a college lineman and I've been coaching high school linemen for 12 years.

There is one top ten lineman left in the playoffs, and its Eric Fisher, and he's okay. Largely considered a bust. The Patriots should sign James Harrison for one game so he can dominate Fisher again.

It's about the quarterback, the system, and the defense.

Yeah, Gunner’s point about not succeeding with Indy’s OL is scary, but he is considered an OL guru of sorts. I don’t know what to think. We probably won’t get him regardless as he has a couple OC opportunities.

I guess it was reported Browns, Minnesota, and us. Browns filled OC and OL coach and Minnesota is going the Kubiak way, so I think we are the ones left at the moment. I guess it depends on what teams like the Jets and Bengals do.
