Agreed. I would plug him in as the starting right guard right now. Let him play where he is comfortable and where he played in college. Outside of Saffold, Foster, Quinton Spain and maybe AJ Cann, there is not much better on the market at guard. Long is probably similar in value to Cann. Long makes sense because he offers them options and leverage. If they can't sign Morse, then they can chase a guard and leave Long at center.

He was at his best in man schemes under Bill Callahan in Washington. Sure he can play in a zone, but he's no good there. It's why Gase got rid of him and I think Gase is going to go all in on Matt Paradis.

In my opinion he is a guard. Trying to make him a center hurt him, and he played better when the Jets played him at guard. I would have no issue with him being our starting right guard. Sign Morse and Daryl Williams.
I will say this, Long is not a zone player, so I hope that this means we are going to more of a power run attack.

I think you make a great point. I'm assuming they just don't like him and would simply want to get what they can. He was a healthy scratch the entire season, so they didn't even look to him to be the primary back up in the interior. He might technically be damaged goods, but for us, it is worth the risk. For them it's just about getting something for a guy whose prospect shine still might be there a bit.

I don't think we draft 10 players, so either the picks are used to move around the board, or we make trades for young vets. Five trade targets come to mind for me.
Tyler Higbee - Tight end of the Rams, has lost some playing time to Gerald Everett and is running as a #2, but he has #1 potential. Apparently the Vikings tried to swipe him for a 7th round pick and the Rams wanted a 6th. I would totally offer a 6th round pick for Higbee. His numbers aren't huge, but he shows lots of flashes of potential as both a receiver and blocker. I think he'd be a great fit. I think he could do more if he was more of a focal point in an offense. 26 years old.
Forrest Lamp - Guard Chargers. This guy had huge potential in the draft a couple of years ago as a left tackle from WKU, who was being converted to guard. Great feet, power and instincts. He tore his ACL before his rookie season. Was ready to go this year and was left on the bench, mostly a healthy scratch. He seems like the type of guy San Diego may just want to move on from and recoup what they could at this point. I am not sure why they didn't get him on teh field at all, but seems like a nice buy low. I'd offer them a 5th or 6th. 24, about to be 25 years old.
Alex Lewis - Guard Ravens. Again another guy who could be a buy low type. Lewis has been in an out of the lineup as a guard. He's a former 4th round pick and tackle who was converted to guard. When he's played, he's been very good. He is entering teh last year of his rookie contract and I don't think Baltimore can re-sign him and they have some depth to replace him. He would be a huge upgrade if acquired. 26 years old, turning 27.
Allen Robinson - WR Bears. He got a big contract from the Bears, but he is replaceable for them. With the emergence of Anthony Miller, perhaps they look to cut ties. If they trade him pre 3/15/19, they get some huge cap savings. I'd bet they would be willing to part with him for next to nothing if offered a trade before 3/15. Robinson is just 25 years old turning 26.
Michael Brockers - DT Rams. So Brockers, like Robinson, could probably be had for almost nothing if a trade is made pre 3/15. The Rams get huge cap savings and a miniscule amount of dad cap if they can get someone to trade for Brockers pre 3/15. Dude is still very young and a perfect fit as a 3 tech in our defense. 28 years old.

In all seriousness though, all I can add isn't that Johnson coached under Scott Linehan, Jim Caldwell, and Jack Del Rio who have all traditionally run power run schemes. (Though some of that was as a tight ends coach). What he was doing in Indy last year was all power stuff as well.
I really hope we see we see something similar to what Indy and New England were doing last year.

Kingsbury is going spread zone concepts. He's gong to want the smaller, quicker linemen. Iupati is a terrible fit for that scheme. Iupati would be interesting to see if he has anything left, but it really depends on scheme.

I also could see the Pats trying to sign this guy and if they do, of course he’ll have a 1000 yard season with 10 tds because they’re the pats and everything they touch turns to gold.
White is an interesting buy low, but my gut tells me he heads to the Jets. He was drafted to play in Adam Gase's offense for the Bears and he's from Jersey, and they have a ton of cap. His upside is pretty much what Robert Foster gave us, so I'd just stick with Foster.

Thanks! Love Dee Ford, but I think he gets the franchise tag this year. There are some question marks though. KC has been a 3-4 base for many years. With Spagnolo coming in and shifting to a 4-3, it will be interesting how they view Ford. He is considered a smaller defensive end, same size as Jerry Hughes, and while he plays a lot of the game with his hand in the dirt, the Chiefs need to determine if he can really be an every down base defensive end.
I think there here is a chance they tag him and trade him, but I think it is more likely they tag him and see how he fits in their new defense for 1 year at least.
In terms of edge defenders, I think the most likely guy to hit the market is Trey Flowers of the Pats and if he does, I assume he heads to Detroit or Miami. I think Clowney, Lawrence, and Ford get the tag. My favorite player out of the group is probably Frank Clark, but I think he goes back to the Seahawks.
In all honesty, I think Beane will target at least two veteran offensive lineman and a tight end. I think the defensive is improved via the draft. But I like our defense overall, we just really need a 3 technique. Unless you love Sheldon Richardson or the Rams cut Michael Brockers, that player likely comes via the draft.

Players who are released are available to be signed right away. We signed released players Chris Ivory and Vontae Davis before free agency last year.

I think their issue is cap space, with Tyreek Hill and Chris Jones coming up soon. Dee Ford, Steven Nelson, and Allen Bailey are free agents this year. They were okay when Morse was out, and they already extended his replacement, Austin Reiter. They also extended Cam Erving. I don't think they want to lose Morse, but I do believe they will get outbid big time. I think he's the guy they may have to sacrifice. They probably have to cut Eric Berry and Justin Houston to try to sign all of these guys.

From what I know he's been pretty durable, but did get hurt this year. I think Elway does let him walk becuase I don't know about his scheme fit anymore. He really is a zone center only. He's small, light, and very agile. I don't think he's the type of lineman Mike Munchak is going to need for a power run scheme. I might be wrong, but I think they let Paradis move on. I do think Gase will go hard after him. He was drafted by Denver while Gase was their OC and he is a perfect fit for his zone scheme. I figured Paradis would stay in Denver until Mike Munchak became their o-line guy. The red flag on Paradis is that he is not scheme versatile and a zone only player.
All that that said, I strongly prefer Mitch Morse for us. He is scheme versatile and is very talented. The red flag on Morse is concussions. I'd be happy with either, but I'd love Morse a bit more.

I think Long would be a huge upgrade if you put him at right guard and just left him there. It's were he spend his career in college. I do not like him as a center. All that said, I hope we aim higher in terms of upgrades.

Thanks. I know he played a ton of Guard this year so it makes sense. I believe he was a guard at Nebraska. He's a power player they tried to make a zone center and it was destined to fail.

They are going all in on Matt Paradis and I think we chase Mitch Morse. To me Long is pretty much Russell Bodine in terms of level of talent.
But he he is a serviceable guy who adds depth, so probably worth a tire kick. I think we go after Morse and Daryl Williams.

To add to this, I don't think your head coach should call plays. It is distracting and it sometimes keeps you from seeing the most obvious things. I think a head coach has to watch the game, which allows him to keep things in perspective and he can see the things that are obvious to people watching on TV. When you are calling plays, I think you lose persepective and get tunnel vision.

I like the hire on paper. I think it really is going to depend on who he gets as his OC and if they can find a quarterback.

And sign ability and other weird factors. It's crazy that Mike Trout was drafted as late as he was and a lot of it had to do with the fact that he played in cold weather. Freaking crazy crap shoot.

It's how things are now. Parents going to college interviews with kids, sending complaint letters when they don't get in. And many young people can't even look another person in the eye and answer a question. It's the parents fault a lot of the time becuase they don't allow their children to take ownership or responsibility for their own lives.

Paradis is perfect for Adam Gase. He was drafted for Gase's scheme in Denver, they need a center as much as us. They have more cap than us. I think he's going to be a Jet. I could see Arizona and the Vikings making a huge push.
I think our guy is Mitch Morse based on no actual proof.
