I’m curious about Barr.  My first thought was to sign him, but like many of you, I think I’m caught up in his name.

I saw a FA list and he wasn’t even top 3 at his position.

I’d be curious to hear from a Vikings fan about him and why they are willing to let him go.

    Heres a good opinion piece:

Sorry I don't know how to do the fancy linky stuff with the picture. I think Barr is soft. Realistically though, I think he wants to be a 3-4 OLB and wants to be on the west coast. My best guess is he goes to Arizona.

While I have more than a few pass rush evaluation skeletons in my cupboard I was one of the few just holding back the hype train on Solomon Thomas. There was talk that year about him being the #1 pick in the draft etc.... I thought he went 10-15 spots too early. That said I have interest at a cheap price as a reclamation project.

Yeah I think he was definitely over drafted and hasn't panned out for them. Probably more of a mid first round guy.  He is similar to the types of guys McDermott has made use of in the past, Charles Johnson, Mario Addison, Wes Horton etc.

Good thoughts - what do you think Thomas would cost?  Former top five pick, no?  And still young and on his rookie deal.

Carolina had him in for a pre-draft visit that year as well. I'm not sure what he would cost though. I feel like the Niners will take what they can get, as he has been a bust for them. The last time a trade like this went down, the Browns traded the #6 overall pick Barkevious Mingo, to the Patriots for a fifth round pick. The biggest difference there is that Mingo was traded after his third year. Another top ten bust, Derrick Harvey was held on to for too long and he wound up getting waived for nothing. Thomas has been that level of bust for the 49ers in his first two years and I think he'd be a better fit for our scheme. I'd throw them a 5th for sure. He's only 23 years old, going to be 24.

  4. I know he said free agency, but two under the radar guys who  could come available and would be great fits imo, Solomon Thomas of the 49ers and Trey Hendrickson of the Saints. Thomas is a bigger end that fits the McDermott mold. If the 49ers draft Joey Bosa, I think they move Thomas. The other guy Hendrickson is another bigger end who has been a part time player and will be losing more playing time to Marcus Davenport. Perhaps a reclamation project like Noah Spence.

We can only hope that a couple, or more, teams over-reach at the top of the draft for QB’s leaving us better choices at #9.

We are in a good spot. I think Murray and Haskins go before we pick. And if Drew Lock really is the apple of the Broncos' eye, anybody who wants to jump them would be calling us. I like where we are.

    Bosa

    Williams

    Allen

    Oliver

    Wilkins

    White

    Gary

One of these guys has to be on the board at 9 with 2 QBs going.

I was doing what I would consider to be an A+ draft (without trading down) and that was my exact first two picks. Would be ecstatic.

Green, Blue, and Purple = good

    The obvious takeaways from here:

-insert eye emoji- Metcalf, Harry, Isabella, and Jennings to an extent

I might be in the minority here, but I really don't like the wide reciever class. Metcalf and Harry are interesting, I wouldn't touch either in the top ten. I hope we just go BPA.

Bills Meetings so far based on where they're likely to be drafted at this point in time:

Organized by where these players are likely drafted (at the moment at least):

    For #9 pick:
    DT Ed Oliver
    DE Brian Burns
    DT/DE Rashan Gary
    WR DK Metcalf
    OT/OG/C Jonah Williams
    OT/OG Cody Ford
    OT Jawaan Taylor

    Trade down or #40 pick:
    WR Kelvin Harmon
    WR Hollywood Brown
    WR JJ Arcega-Whiteside
    TE Irv Smith Jr
    OG/OT Dalton Risner
    C Erik McCoy
    OT/OG Bobby Evans
    OT Greg Little
    OT Kaleb McGary

    Round 3 or later:
    WR Riley Ridley
    TE Isaac Nauta
    OG Dru Samia
    RB Bryce Love

If we somehome came away with Ed Oliver and Dalton Risner I would be a very happy man.

was Rosen THAT bad in Arizona?

having the team abandoning a guy considered a Top Pick after a partial season??

If all this Murray stuff is true, it's just coaching change stuff. Kingsbury knows what type of quarterback he wanst for his system, and apparently Rosen is not it. It's just simply the effect of a regime change.

There won't  be a Rosen trade without a #1 involved.

The Cardinals would have zero leverage. And honestly, most teams can just decide turn around and draft a guy instead. It's terrible timing for a trade imo.

Wonder what Washington would have to give for rosen. Never been a fan of Rosen but the guy didn't get much of a chance in Arizona

My best guess is a third and a fifth. The Redskins have two thirds and two fifths thanks to gaining 4 comp picks. The trade would leave them with 7 picks.

I think that’s where i disagree. I do think this is a loaded WR class. I don’t think Metcalf is the best WR in the draft and don’t think he’s a top 10 player in the draft. If I’m drafting him at 9 I need both of those things to be true. So it’s just a difference of opinion. I believe there will be an elite DL or  OL prospect there at 9, and that there will be a WR as good or better than Metcalf there at 40.

This is starting to remind me of that 2008 Devin Thomas-Limas Sweed- Malcolm Kelly draft. Everyone kept mocking us Thomas in the first round becuase he blew up the combine and we had a huge need there. He went in the second round with a bunch of other guys, the best of which turned out to be DeSean Jackson and Jordy Nelson. We took James Hardy and got Stevie in the seventh. That's kind of how I feel about this draft.

Some of us have seen the height/weight/speed guy that can't run 60% of the route tree thing played out before, and we'd like to see the guy be able to play the position.

I have to agree. This guy is a massive risk for a million different reasons. It isn't just one thing, which is really scary. He is a freak for sure. But I just can't pass on all of the defensive talent on the board for him.

I'd rather just sign Chris Conley, whose measurables are the same and has been in the league for four years already. At least then the risk is just money.

Another thing to think about: Beane and McDermott come from the Panthers, who have historically NOT drafted receivers with their 1st pick. They have much more often used high picks on defensive linemen and offensive linemen. The Panthers seem to go by the "no #1 WR, but a collection of #2 receivers" (pun intended only if you want it to be) school of thought. Based on McDermott and Beane's recent comments, they seem to agree.

Something about a WR at 9 doesn't feel like it's in Beane/McDermott's wheelhouse.

At any rate, so much of the draft discussion is almost completely pointless until we see what free agency brings.

Agreed! And just to kind of add to that, the offensive E-P system is really about complimentary routes. It's about guys doing their jobs. It really doesn't require a #1 guy. It requires the the QB to read things and find the open guy.
