THE ERA OF NATE HAS BEGUN
twoandfourteen replied to Wagon Circler's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Haha, it was just the first non-football related job that popped into my head. No disrespect! I have a few friends who do it -- it's a tough job, that's for sure. You need to be a driven, resilient cat to do well in that game. -
I see it as more of a lateral move, if anything. Kizer put up comparable numbers to Tyrod last year, aside from the INTs, of course. The Browns will just have a lot more 3 and outs and punts. On paper, yes. I agree, it looks great. But after three years of Tyrod, I don't think any offense can be "explosive" with him under center.

Check out Brett Favre's performance out of the gate. Or Aaron Rodgers. Or Peyton Manning. ***NOTE*** ***THIS IS NOT AN ENDORSEMENT OF NATHAN PETERMAN*** ***I BELIEVE HE IS JUST AS LIKELY TO BE SELLING INSURANCE IN 2 YEARS AS HE IS TO BECOME A GOOD NFL QB*** -
I am more excited about this than the playoff birth. Way to get to the bottom of that caper, Shaggy. See, that playoff birth was incredibly flukey -- and if anything, also somewhat hindered the Bills chances at landing a real QB, one that could give us 7-10 years of relevance and opportunities to actually be entertained watching football games again. So, while it was great to get that drought off our backs... I am much happier to know that I won't have to sit through another 90 yard passing performance going into the 4th quarter from Tyrod Taylor. I'm in this to win championships and for sustained success. You can feel free to have fun crossing your fingers that Andy Dalton hits a miracle TD throw to put you in the Wild Card round.

I would hope that an 8-year veteran with 3 years of starting experience would be better than a rookie.

Nate Peterman -- 49mph Tyrod Taylor -- 50 mph http://blogs.ourlads.com/2017/03/16/quarterback-ball-velocity-at-nfl-combine-2008-2015/ I can't really argue that point. (Interesting... Ol' Levi Brown was ripping it at 56 mph) -
It's a beautiful day here in Bills Country. Just a beautiful, beautiful day. Was listening to some Cleveland sports radio this morning. It was adorable to hear them talk about what "Taylor to Landry & Gordon" is going to look like. I hope they enjoy each and every single one of those 3100 yards passing and 20 TDs.

Great catch, Inspector! I was actually taking a good-natured shot at SaviorP. Just a little b-busting. Much like a Tyrod Taylor end zone pass attempt, the joke obviously flew way over your head. -
This really makes me chuckle. Peterman throws a much better ball than Taylor -- maybe he's not as good at heaving it as far out of bounds as Tyrod, but in the brief time 2 has been on the field, he's already made throws and reads that Taylor simply can't do. The difference is that Tyrod is smart enough to know his own limitations and just won't attempt passes to Kelvin Benjamin like Peterman did, because he knows his arm sucks. Peterman is still learning, and may or may not ever be anything. I'd be fine with keeping him on as a developmental guy -- if he pans out, great! Turn him into a 3rd round pick down the road. If not and he turns out to be a human interception machine, cut him and move on. No big loss. Tyrod has already concretely proven himself to not be a capable starting QB.

Ban? Who was banned? I've been busy for the past two weeks. Had to clean up and rearrange the furniture after some high level business meetings. Also had some flooding and the ol' trailer had to be moved to the other side of the park. Took nearly a week to figure out what my new neighbor's wifi password was. Fortunately, the wife was able to dig up some clues when she went over there and borrowed his laptop, TV, and some other stuff when they weren't home. Found me a keeper with that little lady, I tell you. Was eating some comedy sandwiches while reading that bleacher report thing that my compadre Two-Six CB posted and realized that he being the sensible hombre he is, obviously wanted me to set the record straight. Still don't know who that Crusher guy you keep mentioning is, but I doubt he brings the funny like this guy here does. But anyway, let's stay on topic please. -

Fixed it. No need to thank me. -
Yes, actually. You'd be surprised by the members of that list. I suggest looking a few up, but I'll give you a free one... Brett Favre's first two NFL completions were to the Washington Redskins. His first NFL completion to a member of his own team didn't occur until the 'Ol Gunslinger's second season.
-
When you have a chance, could you punch in the numbers and let me know how many completions per punt Tyrod produced? I just realized a fun fact, too: Tyrod started 12 more games than the INT Kid, and yet only had 12 more TD passes. Interesting. I'd say the same thing about Tyrod Taylor. Guy is a top 5 backup in the NFL. Hopefully a contender with an established starter makes a move for TT, it would be a really smart move. Actually... it would be a really smart "insurance policy", if you will.

No... but playoff wins is a good one too. You kind of hinted at it... but it's touchdowns! You know, that thing that is basically the goal of the offense? While they may have the same TD %, Bortles has more -- a product of him throwing the ball more. Because he is, in fact, an actual starting NFL QB. I also find it funny that you ridicule "YYYARRRRDZZZZ", the measure of an offense's ability to move the football -- is that because Tyrod Taylor once again is among the worst in the NFL in that regard? You won't watch the videos because they show some plays made by Bortles in one game this weekend that Taylor hasn't made in his entire career. Name one big "must win" game against a good team that Taylor was a major factor in winning. Just one. Here you go... the passing #s of all the QBs who have played from 2015 to 2017: http://pfref.com/tiny/HGgUX. Bortles is 17th. You're going to have to do some scrolling to find Tyrod, so I'll save you the trouble. He's 40th. Bortles has 500 more pass attempts. Over 3000 more passing yards. 18 more TD passes. Taylor is an ENTIRE season's worth of production behind Bortles over the past 3 years. You could double Taylor's production from this year, add it to his career #s as a starter, and it still wouldn't equal Bortles from 2015-2016. There are 30 more INTs, but that would happen when you're actually throwing the ball downfield trying to make plays. I'd rather have a QB trying to win games than one who is far more concerned with protecting his INT %. ....and Bortles isn't even really all that good! He's a bottom-tier starting QB who caught fire this year. Still, he puts up passing production that is worlds better than Taylor. Also, more than anything... doesn't it tell you something that you #teamtyrod guys are constantly defending Taylor against the likes of Bortles and McCown? Face it. Taylor is a good guy. But he is a terrible starting QB in the NFL.
-
Me too. There are better situations for him at this point in his career -- backing up Watson in Houston would be a great fit. Great WRs and an offense built for his skill set. 3 games above .500 is a "solid" w/l record? Also, let's play "Find Tyrod": http://pfref.com/tiny/Naycx That interception % isn't quite as impressive when you consider how little he actually accomplishes when he does throw the football.
-
One of the smartest points I've seen yet. Taylor to Houston is without a doubt the best place for both the player and the team -- he's a perfect fit to backup and mentor Watson. I really hope that's where he ends up, because I do think it's a perfect setup for him at this point in his career, and I'd like to see him do well in that situation. As far as the racial angle, I suppose it's possible -- but is it because of the color of his skin or because of the physical skill set the player possesses? Nobody suggested to Byron Leftwich to switch to WR, because he was a big, strong-armed pocket passer who ultimately went on to have a nice long NFL career. However, the Patriots made Julian Edelman, a white guy, switch to WR, and it was the best thing he could have done for his career. Now, obviously Jackson is a much better QB talent than Edelman, but if race were the driving factor -- then the actual skills wouldn't matter, only the respective skin colors. You have yet to show me or the rest of the class otherwise.

I wrote I hope this weekend "finally kills the...." I used the word "finally" to imply that the games from this past weekend in addition to the overwhelming mountain of evidence that already exists from the past few years would be enough for people to realize that Tyrod Taylor isn't a "QB you can win with" who just "needs an offense built around his strengths", etc, etc, etc. So to answer your question: no, I am not a giant hypocrite. I am however, absolutely correct -- as always.

Is having a franchise quality QB essential for
twoandfourteen replied to KingRex's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly -- you need at least a competent QB. Think of Bortles or Foles as the bare minimum. Not great QBs by any stretch, but have exhibited some ability to make accurate, attacking throws. A guy like JP Losman isn't taking a team deep into the playoffs, no matter how great the defense is. You still need to score some points and make a few timely, clutch throws to advance. What got you to 9-7 (simply avoiding turnovers and playing for field position) sure isn't going to get you any further once the big boys are playing for a trophy. You need to be able to get big first downs and to respond to opposition scores. -

THIS JUST IN: Good teams tend to win championships. ALSO: 90% of Top 10 defenses don't win championships. -

One example in the past 20 years qualifies as an "anomaly". -
Sure, I'd be all for that -- add another young guy late in the draft or UFA, too and the RB position is set.
-
Because by doing it this way, it protects the only statistic he has that reflects positively on his value as a QB.
