12/19/21 Gameday Bills vs Panthers Second Half Thread

It's not garbage time when you are trying to run out the clock against a team that is trying to stop the run. Garbage time is when you are down multiple scores and running is easy because they are trying to keep you from throwing. -

Again even bad runs serve a purpose and help set up the pass. I'm not saying we are going to be a great running team or that we shouldn't still lean on the passing game but I'm as convinced as I've ever been that the running game helps the pass even when it's not ripping off big chunks of yardage. -

Not a gripe with Breida but we need a "big" back. Someone who weighs in at 230 plus who can fall forward and move the pile. That was Moss's problem. They kept calling him the between the tackles guy when he weighed 205. -

Josh has 8 picks in the last 6 games. As good as he is if we want to get back to being as good as last year he needs to be better. -

No reason Carolina should have ever even sniffed the red zone. If we didn't give them the ball I doubt they are driving the field. Gotta stop beating ourselves. -

First four games Singletary averaged 70 ish yards on 12 carries. Would love to see that kind of balance. -

Maybe ........... I'm of the opinion that even if we run the ball mediocre it would help the passing game but I'll definitely take well over ok. -

We run the ball .................. we pass better. It's funny how that works. -

That TD run will make Allens day that much better. Even if we only get 2 ypc the rest of the game the defense will have to pay attention now and Josh should have an easier time throwing. -

I'm still a fan of 2nd and 8. Even another 2 yard run with 3rd and 6 is better than 3rd and 15. The defense has to play run even with 2 yard runs and then you pass. When you never run the pass rush gets there quicker and only makes Allens job harder. -

I think he has one carry but we were called for a penalty on the line so technically he has no carries. I'm not sure how a player who has no touches can be part of the problem with our offense. -

The old book on how to be a good team .......... run the ball and play defense. Us this year .......... throw 90 percent of the time and get run on. That needs to change and it seems like the coaches don't seem to know that or can't get it done. -

I wouldn't know whether we can run the ball or not because we REFUSE to run the ball. Even mediocre results like 3.5 ypc would be better than a bunch of plays with Allen getting beat up and put us in 3rd and 4 or 5 instead of 3rd and 15. -
2022 RB Draft class looks pretty good
Maine-iac replied to 78thealltimegreat's topic in The Stadium Wall
Biggest thing I'd like to see as an addition to our backfield is a true short yardage back. Signed or drafted but someone who tips the scales at over 220. Singletary is great between the 20s and with a better line he might be able to find the end zone but I'd still like a power back. Even if we still throw or let Josh run on 3rd and 4 just having a bigger threat in short yardage might open up play action or we could hand it off and have someone who can actually move the pile. -

How the hell does Kenny Clark control the whole middle of the defensive line yet we have 4 guys and none of them can control any part of the line.

I'd ask why all the day 1 draft picks on our d-line can't get to the QB to save their lives, then we'd both cry in our beers for a minute and go our separate ways. -
Sanders has spent most of his career in the slot so I'm not sure why he got moved into an outside spot where Davis is clearly much better. Sanders should be inside spelling Beasley and finding holes in the zone or running crossing routes. At least this is one thing they seem to have figured out.

There is a clear correlation to Singletary getting carries and the offense scoring points. I'm not saying Singletary scores the points but I am saying that it helps the passing game if you at least attempt to run the ball. That's what I have said since week 5 on and can't figure out why it doesn't happen. As far as the defense we seem to have a lack of people who hit guys hard enough to make them fall down. I feel like even the guys we currently have used to hit people and make them fall down. Lately it seems like they are just trying to grab some legs as they get run over. -

By the same token the running in the second half opened up the passing game because it slowed down the pass rush enough for Josh to get rid of the ball. -

Maybe they thought the line would get to Brady quick enough but I'm not sure what would have given them that idea. -

My other point I've beaten like a dead horse to no avail .................. in wins Singletary 73 carries and 327 yards. Losses Singletary 35 carries and 168 yards. The more carries Singletary gets the better chance we have of winning. Not because we are a great running team but because running the ball opens up the passing game more.
