My two problems with this team as it is now .................. run and stop the run. For the love of god run the ball more. The second half of this game and most of the Saints game are just the latest examples of running it vs not running it. The less we run it the worse it gets and I literally cannot figure out how they can't see that.
Ah that's what we were doing .............................. save all the rushing attempts to the second half so we fool them into thinking we never run the ball.
If we ran the ball the passing game would be better. If we ran the ball we'd take less sacks because they'd be playing the run. If we ran the ball and took less sacks we'd have more 3rd and 5 (or something like it) and less 3rd and 15. If we ran the ball took less negative plays we'd score more points and keep the other teams offense off the field and they would score less points. When I say run the ball I'm not even talking about running it well. I'm just saying running it with even mediocre results. We didn't run the ball well against the Saints but it made a world of difference to just try.
I'm sorry but as much as I suspect the OL if you NEVER run the ball you are just altogether too predictable. You are going to have a hard time pass blocking because the only thing the defense is doing is coming up with ways to get to the QB. They probably are not even concerned with stopping the run they'll just get the rb on the way to the QB.
We are basically the old Colts teams with Manning that could barely run and would hope to get up on people and pass rush them or they would just get pounded into oblivion but Manning kept them relevant. If we don't get negative plays on D or takeaways we can't sustain anything against a decent team. On offense we are not so predictable that we even have a hard time doing what we could do well.
Defenses only have to find ways to pass rush so it makes it a lot easier ......... if they ever had to worry about a running game it would slow them down.
