  1. Mahomes hasn't done anything so...as for Watson, I think they felt it would've been redundant getting him. His play was similar to Tyrod's. Shorter QB with at the time accuracy issues and scrambled a lot. That probably raised red flags to them. It potentially ended up being a mistake. However, look at all of the running QBs that have come out of the draft lately. A lot of them seem to be getting hurt frequently in the early part of their career. Maybe they wanted a pocket passer instead.
  2. Well that'd be nice but the coaches have coached in specific schemes for a long time. Frazier and McDermott are known for the cover 2 just like Rex was known for his defense...just like Wade Phillips is known for his defense and so on. All coaches specialize in certain schemes. If they don't know how to coach the scheme it makes it harder. Matching the players to the scheme takes longer but in the end I think will be more successful. It just requires patience to let them fill the roster with their guys but Buffalo fans don't have patience. Understandably so, but if we ever want to get out of this rut...maybe we should try something different
  3. I absolutely think having bridge players that know the system and have already played in it is helpful. That's what all teams do, bring players over from their last coaching spot to bridge the gap until they find the right player to fill the position. I doubt Tolbert will be the number two running back next season but they didn't exactly have a full offseason and they had multiple holes to fix, I think it's a harsh overreaction to come down on them for that. It's not about this season for them. They are trying to build a consistent contender not a one year pretender. They've been here less than a year haha
  4. I never said they wouldn't be successful in the first three years...I said it would take about three years for them to replace the old regimes inherited players with their guys. Having guys that don't fit the scheme has been one of the biggest problems over the last decade and it will just continue unless we let regimes play out a little. It's been less than a season and people are already calling for heads. Belichick sucked his first year in New England, Coughlin sucked as well and coughlin lost a few of the players in the locker room but he had a plan just like these guys do IMO. Stay the course and trust the process. I think we finally chose the right guys, I'd be nice to see them get a a few years for a change.
  5. I don't think he wants two 340 pound guys in the middle. Carolina drafted Kawonn Short when McDermott was there and he produced high sack numbers. On of those guys in the middle has to be able to penetrate and get of the line quickly. I'm not saying we don't need a pair of new fat boys but the linebackers aren't even close to what he prefers in his scheme. The front seven as a whole is what made his defense work so well in Carolina. The linebackers do much more than just stop the run in his scheme, they blitz and cover down the field. The players we have are very limited and slow. Two starters are on the wrong side of 30 and Brown doesn't fit the fast linebacker mold. I think they need to be replaced just as bad as the two DT spots. They have a lot of cap space and draft picks and will have even more cap space once the offseason comes and they decide to cut some players. If Tyrod doesn't stick around, that's a large chunk of salary that will free them to fill a lot of these holes. We shall see...just saying, I wouldn't overlook the linebacker position. Carolina drafted two linebackers in the first round while he and Beane were in Carolina...
  6. I just think linebacker is too important to McDermott to pass on. That whole unit needs to be upgraded.
  7. The first 4 guys I see being drafted ahead of where you have them. I would pass on a tight end unless you see them freeing themselves from Clay's contract. Nick Leary is a nice complement to a number 1 tight end. I'd expect a little more balance in the first 4 picks. A DT needs to be taken earlier than the 4th if they don't address that in FA but I like that you added youth to the lines. We need to go heavy on the lines. One thing I am scratching my head about is the absence of a linebacker. He took two last year and could see him doing the same this year. I expect one early, I like Tegray Scales. Darnold I would think would be taken earlier if he even comes out.
  8. They have a system in mind...they want the right guys in that system. If he doesn't fit...they will find someone else. That's why they are saying trust the process. Trust what their systems are not reshape the system around an inherited player
  9. I think they are looking for a player to fit their system, not them creating a system around a player. If he doesn't fit what they are trying to do...a change will be made
  10. I just rewatched all of the preseason highlights from Peterman...let's do it! He is mobile enough, not afraid to pass in tight windows and gets the ball out. If not next week, I think Peterman will take over eventually down the stretch.
  11. It does but I think the constant management turnover is a problem in itself and will not help us reach the playoffs. At some point we have to let a management have a few years.
  12. Well that's the direction they are going...I suggest we all get on board or we won't see a playoff appearance for another decade.
  13. It's about the long term success for them. I think this year was a wash to see who fit the system and who doesn't. Whoever doesn't will be shown the door I think. The draft picks will be used to replace the talent with their guys. That's why the the deals all make sense.
  14. Those guys don't fit the future...that's what the personnel moves have been for...to repave the roster. Guys like Matthew and Gaines were for this year. It's all about bringing in their type of players. Hope they get a chance to see if they can reach their goals.
  15. I think your last sentence nailed it on the head. See if he's gonna be the guy for the system. Now that we know, we can move on.
  16. I think Rex was going to fail anyway because he was a lazy coach. McDermott doesn't seem like that to me. If they think these are the guys...then patience. McDermott's high character players will fit better in a suspension happy league anyway. In a suspension happy league, I think getting guys like Dareus who is one more away from a full season or something like that. That's a bad influence on the rest of the team. The culture needed to be changed...it takes a lot of house cleaning to do that. Those that didn't buy into the system would just be more drama in the locker room. They are taking the team a certain direction and it's opposite of what we've been doing so...yeah it will likely take some time
  17. I'm sure they will get out of his contract when he is replaced
  18. They've been in charge less than a full offseason...if they ignore it this offseason then there's a problem. Patience...
  19. That's why we need to give the regime time to get players that fit the scheme in the building but we never do because we are too impatient. I think that changes with this group though, they should be given the chance
  20. It's just tough to judge the coaches when so many players don't fit the scheme and there isn't a whole lot of talent, especially on the defense.
  21. While I agree to an extent, the players he has aren't examples of a McD defense. Look at the linebackers, all are either old and slow or don't fit the system besides Milano, the front 4 doesn't have a lot of talent either...I think the coordinators just need some fresh legs before getting the boot
  22. Brown is too slow, doesn't fit the scheme. Humber certainly looked tired at the Jets and is too slow for this scheme. Washington I don't think fits the scheme and Yarbrough is just a backup. Humber is 30, Lorax is 35 or something and Brown is slow...look at what he had in carolina. Fast linebackers who could cover, defend the run and blitz. This group isn't close to that.
  23. That's the problem though, we keep cutting off regimes before they actually get a few years to establish their players into the locker room. I believe they have a plan, I hope they are allowed to stick to it or the constant turnover will just keep hurting us Along with a lack of talent...yeah I do. Compare our linebackers to carolinas and tell me he's working with a lot of talent...they just need time to replace these old players that are just bridging the gap
