  1. Anybody with McDermott connections that would want to be offensive coordinator under him? I can't imagine Dennison was his first choice. Or even his second. He probably had to settle for him.

That being said, it is tough to really get a feel for Dennison given the lack of passing ability he has to deal with.

  2. I like Cousins. I was hoping to get him a few years ago when it looked like he might leave Washington, but he ended up staying. He would be a great QB to have that would allow us to compete and continue to build the team. If we sign him I doubt we'll sign any other big names. He'll require a huge contract.

Stopped reading after you said to sign Cousins...

What do people have against Cousins? He is a legitimate passing QB and can absolutely win games. I am honestly curious.

  3. Would be great to get the monkey off the back of this franchise. I think it would go a long way to helping the team move forward and build something good.

I am too young to remember the super bowl years because I was an infant, and my earliest Bills memory was the music city debacle. Would be nice to make some good memories with this team. So hard to have to hear about the glory days in the early 90's and only be able to watch highlights and old games from those guys and not actually experience it real time.

Here's to making the playoffs. We have a decent shot.

Maybe I got lucky then as I spoke ill of every Bills coach since Greg Williams on that board.  I criticized Ralph for being cheap in not going after the big name coaches.  I only got one infraction and the mod gave me a thorough explanation why (it was a stupid gif of Brady yelling a profanity on the bench that you could only lip read) and I was fine with them just giving me a warning.  I'll take it from you though as others like you had different experiences.

I was there long before EJ and started a thread the night he was drafted about how the Bills made a horrible mistake.  I also was very critical of Wilson's decision to hire Marv Levy as GM because it was the comfortable thing for Ralph to do.  No warnings from the mods.

You were lucky. Plenty of people got banned for literally no reason at all.

  5. Would like to bring Matthews back for sure. Should be able to get him a little cheaper considering his down season. He hasn't had injury issues in the past and has been solid. Not sure he would want to come back if Tyrod is still here, though, because no WR on this team can expect targets with him at the helm.

Tolbert better go. Not sure what the coaches see in him on the field.

If we draft a QB, I wouldn't be against bringing Tyrod back to allow the rookie to sit and develop, maybe come in later in the season. Tyrod is a good bridge QB.

I would definitely bring back Gaines, but still look at adding depth at CB.

If by "always hurt" you mean one injury plagued season(and rightfully so considering his injury) then yea you are right.

He was a BIG difference maker when on the field here.

The revisionist history is incredible around here.

How many times have you gotten black out drunk during Bills games?

Go look at his stats. He had a dominant 7 game stretch and that's about all.

And if you think he had 1 injury plagued season, you must have been drunk. He only played a full season his rookie year, and many of the games he DID play he was little more than a decoy because he was playing hurt.

McDermott absolutely made the right decision to deal him. He was a me first guy here, from his own mouth, and never played anywhere near the level of an elite receiver. Nor has he played up to a #1 WR in LA either, yet.

It is a testament to the arrogance of the front office to let Watkins walk, thinking that 'Zero' Jones was going to step into those shoes..

I wouldn't want any WR to step into the shoes of Sammy Watkins. He was always hurt, and when on the field not that big of a difference maker.

He has been healthy all year for the Rams and his stats are we'll below what you want for your #1 "elite" WR.

    • Haha (+1) 2

There were plenty that felt he under performed and that we wouldn't miss him.

I don't think it is possible for a WR to underperform when Tyrod Taylor is your QB. Woods was at least a great blocking WR. There were many stretches of games where Woods was our only threat at WR (because Watkins was always hurt), and he produced.

I wish him well and hope he continues to succeed. I hope Watkins flops, though.

Rodak: Bills remain confident in Zay Jones despite rookie's 'humbling' season

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Buffalo Bills wide receiver Zay Jones is tied with Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp in having played 712 snaps this season, seventh-most among rookies who play on offense.

But the disparity in production between the two has been striking. Kupp, a third-round pick, has 62 catches for 869 yards and five touchdowns. Jones, a second-round pick, has 25 catches for 291 yards and two touchdowns.

It has been an underwhelming season for the Bills' 32nd-ranked passing offense, and Jones' disappointing performance has been just one part of the losing equation for offensive coordinator Rick Dennison.

    Two words:

    Tyrod Taylor

    6 minutes ago, Luka said:

The Tyrod trust still hasn't learned it's lesson. Receivers leave Buffalo for better QBs and produce hand over fist what they produced here. People couldn't wait to run Goodwin and Woods out of town.

    Whoops.

Remember how well Hogan played and how everyone had a fit?

Ironically the guy that looks the same as he did in Buffalo is Watkins, who wouldn't know a route tree from a hat tree.

Woods? I think most people liked Woods.

Hmmm. This seems Billsy to me. They are 5-10. They played a last place schedule. They weren’t complete trash like Cleveland but they weren’t good. No idea if they are headed in the right direction. They spent a 2nd on Hackenberg and 2 years later he still hadn’t taken a snap. They drafted Petty before that and he’s nowhere. How do the Jets know these guys can evaluate a QB?  I will give them credit for mccown looking better than expected. But the drafting has been underwhelming and I think Bowles is pretty bad. They surpassed expectations but that’s because expectations were rock bottom. Jmo.

Exactly. I think them staying is good for the Bills.

I think this was a really good move by the Jets.

The revolving door - as we all know - does not work.

    Bowles has earned this extension.

Earned it by having one of the worst teams in the league?

Isn't it interesting that Marrone teams all seem to have these excellent defenses that he has "nothing to do with". Maybe he fundamnetally understand that you have to impact the Quarterback in this league and hires coordinators and constructs defenses capable of achieving that? Eventually something stops being a coincidence.

I am not surprised the Jags have done well. Doug Marrone is a good Head Coach. I thought so when he was here too having originally been lukewarm to his hiring. He is a dislikeable arse of a man. But he is a good Head Coach. He made some micro management mistakes here that listening to the folks over in Jacksonville he seems to have learned from with Tom Coughlin's guidance.

I disagree. Marrone inherited his team in Jacksonville. They have been drafting high end talent for their defense for a few years now, and that has nothing to do with Doug.

If he has learned to hire good coaches and get out of the way, he is going to have success there, because when he is the one micromanaging the offense or the oline, it turns out pretty bad.

ALSO, if it breaks like I have predicted...does Doug Marrone get any kind of forgiveness for walking out on the Bills Mafia?

Marrone is just not a likable person. He is a big baffoon. I was glad he left. He is supposed to be an offensive coach and the offense was terrible. He is supposed to be an oline guru and the oline was terrible. We only got to 9 wins because of the excellent defense (which he had nothing to do with) and because the Pats rested their starters week 17. Good riddance. Although I am surprised the Jags have done so well ...

    JAX - 24

    TEN - 17

    LAC - 31

    OAK - 20

    CIN - 23

    BAL - 19

    BUF - 23

    MIA - 9

I will say this,,, no way does Jax want to be swept by Tennessee and then have to play Tenn in the first round.  They would like to eliminate the Titans now.

The Chargers will probably handle the Raiders at home.  I'd like to think Oakland will show up but i just think LA is better and won't let this one slip.

Cinci still has remnants from their playoff teams and they aren't that bad.  They beat Detroit last week who had everything to play for.  They traditionally play the Ravens tough in Baltimore and they will try to win Marvin Lewis' last game.  I like Cinci's chances.

I agree with all of this. No way Jax would want a division rival in the playoffs with them.

Best chance is for Cinci to beat Ravens. I'm sure they would love to hurt their playoff chances.

These guys were signed by Whaley, NOT Beane but please continue...

You honestly think that? Whaley did what McDermott wanted. McDermott was clearly running the show.

The point I was trying to make is the HC gives the GM the type of player(s) needed to make his system successful. The GM still has to agree &  go acquire the player...Now the problem would have been if DW didn't agree with the coach & acquired a totally different skill set. This shows that these decisions are more a collaborative thing instead of a dictatorship...thanks for the link.

    GM- Is the talent evaluator

HC- Coaches the talent the GM acquires

Normally yes, but this was a unique situation where the club was planning to move on from the GM, so McDermott had much more control than normal. Whaley had very little say in what happened, and I am sure that whatever he DID do had to be signed and stamped for approval by McDermott.

Does LaFell draw the #1 CB each week? Nope, that's AJ Green.  There is no comparison.   LaFell has 50 catches for 513 yards and 3 TDs  Watkins has 39 catches for 593 yards with 8 TDs

    sg1gg8.jpg

Not an impressive year for a #1 WR by any stretch of the imagination.

Watkins is not nearly as good as some make him out to be. He certainly isn't elite, and my guess is he never will be.

    3 hours ago, 26CornerBlitz said:

Similar? No. Watkins has 80 more yards and 5 more TDs on 11 less catches and 15 less targets. He's created 33 1st downs to 23 for LaFell.  It's not even close and Watkins draws the assignment of the #1 CB each week often with Safety help.   You should stop.

    GreatNeedyAdamsstaghornedbeetle-max-14mb

All of which makes Sammy an average WR in the NFL. Good for him.

The good WR's can deal with a #1 CB and safety help and still put up yards and TD's.
