Seems like a decent hire based on Butler's experience/resume.

I'm just wondering why McD felt the need to change/upgrade when the defensive backfield was the most consistent part of the entire team all season.

Because he wanted to. It's not about need. He wants the guys that he wants.

He's the real brains behind the defense anyway.

If teams could evade cap hits due to medical retirements, there'd be a lot of medical retirements.  Except for kickers, every guy who's played in the NFL for a few years has something or other wrong, that could be used as an excuse.  The salary cap would become much less restrictive than it is now.

What? That's ridiculous to say. Players aren't going to want to retire more often because of a rule change.

Managing a team's salary cap has nothing to do with feeling bad about Wood's injury.

Careful that you don't slip off your soap box with that wet argument.

    I didn't mention Woods injury, did I?

The Bills have very little cap space. Already have like 14 million in dead money from Dareus.

The more reports that come the more angry I get. Someone has some explaining to do.

So Wood just stole close to 5 million and left us with 10 million dead cap?

Us? I didn't realize you were Mr or Mrs Pegula. How about you leave the cap and team management to those who actually know what they are talking about.

  4. The defense WAS the concern this year. They were absolutely right to focus on the defense. And it still needs a lot of work.

Bring in a good QB and the offense is fine. I say bring in a QB but continue to build a dominant defense, then focus on rebuilding the oline and find more weapons on offense.

You can always compete with a dominant defense.

It would depend how the salary guarantee is structured.  If it's an insurance payout then it probably doesn't count against the cap.

But if the Bills agreed to fully guarantee the 2018 salary against injury for a 30+ vet AND paid him a $6.5 million bonus, then it's a gross mismanagement of the cap.

The only qualification would be that in exchange for agreeing to guarantee 2018, Bills have the right to claw back the unearned bonus, so they'll be cap neutral in 2018.

Ultimately none of it matters that much. The Bills have plenty of space and can easily make more. Nothing they did is "gross mismanagement" of the cap. So get off your soap box.

Freddie gets his politics in on a sports show.

You can't handle someone with an opinion that differs from your own?

I agree with this.  I think Murph gets sensitive too much when he doesn't agree with a caller or a statement made by Jones.

He says "really" a little smug each time.  He's just good at keeping most of his composure but you can tell he's irritated with that statement.

I agree. What's weird is I feel like he got worse once Jones started. I get the sense that he really didn't like Jones much. I will say that it didn't seem like Jones ever did anything to prepare for the show and always wanted to take time off, and complained a lot about a lot of things. Murphy probably resented that.

Jones couldn't put two coherent sentences together on that show if his life depended on it.  Very often, he'd just rehash what was said minutes prior.  I didn't know he was going back and forth and didn't even live here in WNY.

    Gone and forgotten.

I feel much the same way. He did get better, though. Still, half the time he would literally repeat what John Murphy just said.

Please NOT Freddie !!!...... Unless you like politics from the right. not me, no way.

Pretty sure they would be talking about sports, not politics.

Enough is enough.  There's been lots of great Bills since that 90s stretch (who never won a ring) and you don't hear any of them "chiming in."  Part of me hopes McD pulls a Jeff Fisher vs. Erik Dickerson move and says, "get out."

And when I start charging $2.99/month to read my posts, I expect yours to be the first PayPal account I see.

They can talk about whatever they want. Just like you. The media are the ones coming to them looking for quotes, afterall.

Nobody cares if you've had enough. Boo hoo.

  9. I'd like to see the whole NFL move to helmets like these:

    https://www.wired.com/2016/01/the-zero1-flexible-football-helmet-may-save-players-brains/

The flexibility of the material reduces the force much more effectively. If my kids ever want to play football, I'll definitely be getting them these.

All hard pads, helmets, braces, etc should be removed from the game and replaced with flexible, force absorbing materials.

  10. Crazy how the world can produce such despicable people. It's just so foreign to me.

I know poverty has something to do with some of these guys and how they  were raised, but still. I grew up in a poor home with a big family, but we all turned out alright. No murderers among us.

Interesting data.  How is "adjusted completion %, all attempts" calculated?  Shouldn't that be the same as their raw completion data, or what does it mean that it's so much higher for "all attempts" than "raw completion %"?

Please excuse stating the obvious, but if Tyrod throws over guys heads all the time or in places that require difficult catches our WR can't make, then that will be reflected in his completion percentages making it lower.

All QB stats reflect WR who make those circus catches.  Witness Min. game.

It's my observation that our WR corps makes fewer of those "high degree of difficulty" haul-ins than most, but I have no data to back that, just an eyeball perception.

Tyrod has so few attempts that his stats are misleading at best. Most of his throws are dump offs.
