Sweet. Take her out for some ice cream!

There are many ways it could be explained. People cross the borders every day and every way. Also bear in mind that drug trafficers don't always follow how everyone else does things. Just like there's many countries where the importer will only accept their home country's money. Not out of the question, esp. w/ the reach of this show. All of the nature maps say there's no way that water mocassin snakes come into this area of CT, but I've g'dam well seen them. Like nature, commerce finds a way to cross borders that some say it can't. But for the plane to go all the way from Africa to the middle of the Pacific!?? That's kind of odd and there's definitely something weird going on there. Funny, I thought the ep would answer some questions when all it did was raise more. Have the feeling that it'll do this up until the series finale. But I'm game as long as Kate keeps dropping trou to go swimming or bathe.
-
Locke just said the money was Nigerian. Not necessarily that the plane's point of origin was Nigeria. Kind of how the US Dollar is used in Mexico and a lot of other countries.
-
That's the concept of centralized power. He's the King of Pyongyang, but as you get out into the rural parts of the country where people are starving and the state isn't as omnipresent, there is less control. Until control is moved there in the form of ThoughtPolice, etc. KJI is very good at doing this, but the govt is going to implode sooner rather than later. Things Fall Apart. I concede that it's not exactly the same as Saddam's control of Baghdad and vicinity and tribal outside of that, but it's correlative.
-
Nevermind that if Iraq indeed had the WMD that the admin said they had, it certainly would not have been "bloodless." That they counted on Saddam using chemical/biological weapons but it didn't happen isn't reason to jump up and down clapping about the decision after the fact.
-
I looked at Saddam the same way as Kim Jong Il. A guy who has a strong amount of control over a small region of the country and less to none the further you got from the main city. The good thing about it was he was basically isolated, until the invasion which drew together the nation (much as it did ours after 9/11). The inspections were thorough and were working. The idea that we had to attack NOW never sat right with me b/c that's the argument someone uses when they want you to make a decision based on less than the facts. I didn't advocate involvement w/ Iraq much as I didn't advocate being World Cop in Somalia and Bosnia. And how I don't advocate attacking NK and causing a tide of nationalism that would make the daily parades seem like standard maneuvers. It's actually sad to see the Repubs who once said Live and Let Die (But If You So Much As Come Near Us, You're Effin' Toast) change places with the bleeding heart Liberals. Saddam killed his own people. Wah. Finland doesn't attack us b/c the BTK serial killer was a Town Dog Catcher. The humanitarian reasons were the only ones I ever actually bought as being the truth, and they stunk.
-
Ken, that's a great analysis of what needs to happen, especially removing politicization and preconceived notions. Operate on facts and rational responses to them rather than feelings and the Risk board mentality of "Iraq info was wrong, but hey, it's all good...."
-
When we don't have all of the information, or we can't KNOW for SURE, then the best thing to do is be conservative and let Terri live. When we don't have all of the information, can't KNOW for SURE, but can overfund what has become a bleeding heart mission b/c of the lack of other purpose, then the best thing is to be conservative. And KILL, KILL, KILL some schmoes b/c they wear an Iraqi uniform and want their country to be sovereign no matter who wears the funny hats.

Hmm.

I erred by saying "sees the future" versus sees what happens tho it's impossible for him to know it in real life. You could well be right whether it was a choice. I'd almost be accepting of it, b/c as I said before I'm no Locke Apologist. The scene where Locke arrives early-early in the morning to go to the hatch (darkness=evil) has me open to the suggestion. Something that would make it easier that I can't remember b/c I wasn't looking for it and I hope someone has Tivo or remembers... In Locke's dream scene, did it flash repeatedly back and forth b/w Boone being bloody and not? I'm not even sure whether I saw this.
-
And whatever the hatch/pod is. I don't know from the outside, but from what you'd imagine the inside would look like, did it look like the inside of Rousseau's dwelling where she took Sayid? My whole yellow spoiler portion comes to mind. A Pacific Bermuda Triangle w/ weird magnetic forces (the Black Rock from the writings?) that pulls in passing craft.... This could be a minor spoiler: The writers have said that part of the season finale will be looking back into the boarding of the plane and perhaps the cause of the crash. Some speculation that one ep will have scenes from the cargo hold through Vincent's (the dog) perspective.
-
I think you might be hung up on the issues of choice and having flashes of premonition. Boone can't be put in Tupperware for preservation. The visions are what happens. There's no way to change it, no matter how much Locke could piece together what it might mean. The plane had been there for a long time and Locke saw it flying in the air; how was Locke to know when exactly Boone's injuries would come? I think he started to realize that the time was now when the plane started moving and he started yelling for him to get out. And who says that Locke won't be in that chair in the time to come? If he saw it, then from the other things being true, I would think it happens. It's not a choice that Locke has, it's just the curse of being able to see the future w/o knowing the whole story of how, why or when the things happen.
-
Point taken. My contention, tho, is that while he knew it would happen he's powerless to stop it. If it didn't happen, then his vision of the future wouldn't have been true. It's like if Claire's psychic guy told her not to go on the flight b/c she was going to wind up on the island, and she didn't go, then his premonition would be moot. I'm probably not explaining it well enough, but it's hard to describe.
-
Actually, the writers have been saying that a major character's going to die toward the end of the season (not necessarily the finale) all along to anyone who'll listen. It doesn't give away anything. Just makes you wonder who it is and gets you asking yourself lots of questions to keep it in your head, and that's a great thing about the show. There's been a lot of smaller clues as to who it is and why they die, but I'd say it's not necessarily Boone. Jack looked determined in the preview for next week, and we all know what Jack can do when he's determined. Part of the whole Jack Shepard=looking after his flock=Christ reading I've been getting is that he raised Charlie from the dead = Lazarus. I suppose that the supposition that Locke sacrificed Boone might be Abraham and Isaac, if I recall (I dare not pick up a Bible b/c I'd burst into flame )?

Meh.... The rep was responding that Red Sox players were getting big coin while alienating kids from having great memories of the time they met X and got an autograph. Doesn't do much for the hardcore collecter types who are big on COA, etc. They'll still have official deals w/ players to commercialize a friggin' pen scribble. I don't quite get the fascination w/ buying an autograph. The whole point is to show that you've met that person. When I waited in line for 2 hours in Rochacha to see Jim Kelly, that's burned in my head when I asked how his knee was doing and he said "Feels good," and then handed me back the jersey and said "Here you go, bud!" Someone who charges just doesn't have that personable, boatloads of goodwill, legend-status. Not enough that they make millions and that these things help market their job, players who charge = RJ. Did it need to be legislated? Prol'y not. Whatever.

Yeah, I totally missed the aisle, row thing. And the game being named "Mouse Trap." Another dude on the island w/ serious father issues. "Teresa falls up the stairs, Teresa falls down the stairs." Question: How does one fall up the stairs?
-
The hatch isn't exactly what I thought it would be (which was "part of a plane"). It looked kind of like a pod or a panic room. What would have glass that's that strong?
-
Actually, it would be called what has legally played out by the courts determining that the federal govt had no business sticking its nose into a state matter where the law says that absent a directive, it's the spouse's call. B/c that is what's called totalitarianism.
-
Yeah.... Yeah. The oft-forgotten story development of setting is definitely in play, and not just as soil, rocks and trees. ---------- And Hawkeye Pierce (mostly b/c of his new stint on West Wing as an awesome Republican candidate) and Kramer were the two I immediately flashed on as well.
-
I was talking about his mum and dad conning him into getting a kidney for the taking after having invested a lot of lying and a few quail-hunting walks. I agree somewhat w/ how Locke's been on the island; probably learned his lesson. But I think he's also trying to not be like his father. He has given, (ie the baby crib, helping Charlie) rather than just taking what he needs and leaving. Don't know about that. He obviously saw Bloody Boone, but that doesn't mean that he knew when that would happen. Happened really quick and he didn't know right away, he was searching around for the answer, it wasn't delivered to him in epiphany. The visions were just that; didn't lead to a specific place that he knew beforehand. The plane falling didn't seem that he was expecting or wanted it to happen, and he was screaming for Boone to get out. And this is not coming from a Locke apologist, don't you know.
-
Locke actually called Boone "son" just before he spotted the plane, and he was trying to convince Boone to continue searching for whatever it was they were looking for.
-
I don't have Tivo, but at the end of the scenes where he's in the car, did the younger Locke look up and then get all catatonic like when he saw the monster? For a couple of minutes I actually thought the old guy was going to take both of his kidneys. So, people have used Locke. Locke used Boone, somewhat but I don't think it was malice/sacrificial. He surely knew there was risk going in the plane but I don't believe that he knew the bloody event would be from that. And if it was a premonition, how could he stop it, w/o it having been wrong? All that said, I would agree w/ the sentiment that Locke isn't a 'Good' guy. I've never thought this. The Palay convention where fans got to ask a few vague questions only solidified this. What did the respondent on the radio say? I just couldn't make it out. Interesting things to note. Ep was titled "God in the Machine" and in the drug plane, there were Virgin Mary statues. In the hatch, there is _?_. As Johnny Coli (and dude, you need to grace us w/ another blog entry pronto! ) said, it refers to the entrance of a savior. The light right there was very eerie, and it took Boone's (near-?)death/or was it simply Locke being alone(?) for it to come on. Anyone can now go back and highlight the yellow spoiler, it's been revealed now, and there's a theory behind all of this there. What was a light airplane, 2-prop?, fron Nigeria --- West Africa --- doing in the middle of the Pacific Ocean? They can't generally make a journey like that.

Solar Power Heated Homes in Canada
UConn James replied to John Adams's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
IBM's first computer chips cost in the tens of millions. As they got better at it, and it went into mass production, the price came down lots, yes? It's too bad that solar energy hasn't been used extensively, and I believe you no longer get a tax credit for the installation cost. Renewable energy that means we don't have to pony cash so terrorists can attack us? Not such a bad thing.
