Jaguars officially hire Urban Meyer as HC
y2zipper replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Urban Meyer has a really good history as a program builder and this is a pretty good choice, especially considering that college coaches transitioning to the NFL is a more viable idea than ever. Matt rule and Cliff Kingsbury are currently in the NFL, Pete Carroll is the obvious success story from college, Doug Marrone has had some NFL success too. On top of that it's quite the underrated job because you have a strong owner that's willing to spend money and give people time, the consensus best quarterback prospect in a while, and the next cap space where you don't have to take a year to completely tear everything down. I don't know if this will work, but I definitely think this is the right type of hire for Jacksonville. -
Matt rhule and Pete Carroll come to mind as college coaches that worked and to a lesser extent Doug Marrone got to an AFC Title Game. there's also kliff Kingsbury. With more college concepts coming into the NFL, there's reason to believe that the Urban Meyer hire can actually work. Meyer has a history of building programs, that's what Jacksonville needs to do, and there's a bare cupboard with no expectations and a really great quarterback prospect coming. I think Meijer is a good hire that makes sense and got one of the better jobs. Chicago having to announce that their coach in GM are coming back is normal for really big market teams. The Giants did the same thing when they announced that gettleman was going to come back. Maggie is one about 60% of his games and has two playoff appearances in the last 3 years with a quarterback who can't play.

I think he was just playing the draft order.

What is the second-most important position on a football team?
y2zipper replied to LeviF's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Watching this year's postseason makes me think that the answer to this question is that I want to have a dynamic skill player somewhere on my offense without a preference for what position that player plays. Obviously the trenches are an important area, but to me the offensive and defensive lines and pass rush are largely products of group play. I think that it's the piece that a lot of the lower end and a lot of the losing playoff teams don't have that some of the better playoff teams do. Indianapolis Pittsburgh and the Rams come to mind as playoff teams that have good offenses in good quarterbacks and good offensive players, But they don't have a really really dynamic physical skill player. Like Cleveland has Nick Chubb, Buffalo has Diggs, Green Bay has Adams, and Kansas City and New Orleans are both teams that have two of those with kamara and Thomas in New Orleans and Kelce and Hill in Kansas City. -
I think Philadelphia's ownership is largely correct here and that Philadelphia does not really have a vision. And look to me like Peterson was managing that like a fan instead of trying to put something stable together and it just didn't work. Hurts to me didn't look much better than Wentz outside of his athleticism. That being said I think Peterson is an excellent fit for the Chargers job just because quarterback with the physical skills of Herbert fits with the game that he likes to play and because the vision for the Chargers is already there. I also think that particular job is in need of somebody with experience in order to manage game day. They just fired Anthony Lynn because they didn't like his decision making under fire and bringing in somebody who's never been a head coach before runs the risk of doing the same thing. Seeing all the names also makes me wonder which one of these candidates is not getting a job, especially considering that a lot of the college coaches haven't actually been talked about as candidates for anything.

They do but Tampa isn't getting behind the chains so they use faster plays. It's the same thing Rivers did vs. us. -

The Bucs aren't that well-coached IMHO. -

The divisions are there as a parity engine. You basically make the playoffs by being better than 3 other teams that you play a common schedule with. I prefer the 6 team playoff format to 7.
