I love this timeline so much.

I'd hope they could shop him for another 5th? He's still a good player on a reasonable one year contract. That seems like it would be valuable to someone, no? Getting two mid-round picks plus a half year rental for a 3rd would make it a lot more palatable.
-
Yea, it's not a slam dunk either way. For me, I think this team just needs to get younger in certain spots. I'm fine paying 10M'ish for a good 30 year old pass rusher or a bit more for a younger wide receiver on a 1-2 year deal. I'm not really that interested in paying 10M to a 30 year old cornerback, and I'm definitely not interested in making a multi-year commitment to a 30 year old cornerback. But Douglas is a good player and it's a shame that he was probably at 50% in the KC game. Floyd disappeared down the stretch, so for me, he's a thank you for your service but let's see what else we can do on the DL.
-
I think you're correct in terms of how this organization has functioned. However, we're entering a new era. One where they won't have the luxury of 6-12M vets all over the roster. Does the staff have more faith in a young player like Kaiir Elam being able to hold down CB opposite Christian Benford in Year 3, with 10M in saving to be used elsewhere or do they have more faith in going young on the DL or at WR. Would you rather have Rasul Douglas or Hollywood Brown? Rasul Douglas or another Pass Rusher?

We got a pick back.. If we didn't get destroyed by the injury bug, this team had the ingredients to win the Super Bowl. I'm always fine swapping those types of picks for a half year rental of a player like Rasul Douglas mid-season if we have a shot at winning it all.
-
It's a risk, but for me.. if we're reallocating that 10M owed to a 30 year old CB elsewhere because we want to bet on Elam's Year 3 development.. this team is finally starting to make decisions that can get us over the hump.

I don’t fall in line with all Tucker’s Russia commentary, but this is disingenuous framing. Up until the moment the war started, there was always talk of whether or not this is a bluff or an attempt to extort some kind of concession from Ukraine. And im not sure why I need to believe what our govt tells me about this, considering they lied to us about the pipeline.

Damar Hamlin: Would be a “dream” to play for the Steelers

Yup. This isn’t a knock on Douglas. He’s very good. Played great for us until he got hurt, which unfortunately lined up with the KC game. This is about roster construction and asset allocation now, and moving forward.
-
Rasul Douglas will be 30 years old when the season starts. He’s good. Is that where we want to spend 10M? Is that the type of player we should extend in the Secondary? Tre White is coming off two major injuries. We will have no way of knowing what he is until late in camp.. at best. He took a while to come back off the last injury. Now it’s two. Cutting both of them and going young in the Secondary makes us players for a Hollywood Brown or a multiple pieces on the DL (for example). It’s a risk, but Benford is very good. Elam has shown flashes but is not someone we should count on. So we draft 2-3 corners in Rounds 3-6 and tell Elam it’s his job this summer to fight off the draft picks for CB2.
-
Biden has a few months to get this sorted out, but if he doesn’t.. Donald Trump is your 47th President.
-
I agree, but that’s why I’d draft a couple corners in the mid-rounds. Benford & Elam both going into Year 3 and then draft 2-3 guys to compete with Elam Rounds 3–6. I don’t expect them to do that at all, but if I ask myself what would KC do?… they’d probably use 10M + Tre’s money somewhere else besides a CB coming off two major injuries and another turning 30 by the time the season starts.
-
I don’t really have a ton of interest in extending a 30 year old DB to be honest.. Id rather roll with Benford & Elam outside, with Johnson in the slot. Poyer at Safety, sign back Rapp and then draft a couple CB’s and a S in the middle rounds. I’m not waiting around to see if Tre can get back and I’d rather use Douglas 10M towards a WR or DL help.
-
Let’s just say I’ll be pleasantly surprised if just one of them is not on the roster. I know people love Douglas, but paying him 10M when we have Benford and a guy we invested a RD1 in seems like the exact thing KC doesn’t do.

Damar Hamlin: Would be a “dream” to play for the Steelers

You should probably chill out.. nobody in here is attacking him. It is a weird thing to say when you're under contract with another team, who drafted you, but I even alluded to getting why he'd feel this way. -
Came here to post just this. Meanwhile we're over here with post-injury Tre and 30 year old Douglas, acting afraid to do anything with either of them.

I get why he’d say this given his relationship to Pitt, but what a weird thing to say when he’s under contract with Buffalo next year. Maybe he knows he’s not long for the roster?
