Steelers @ Bills. Monday, January 15th at 4:30pm.

I'm ready for anything, and still think the Bills win in crazy weather - but Monday just seems like the easy button for the NFL. Too much risk for people going to the game if the current forecast holds. Fan safety should be the top priority, when there are options to move the game. -

Football is an outdoor game. Winning a title is more than just having the best talent on the field. It's adjusting to changing conditions & circumstances, and being able to best your opponent when it comes to gameplanning and strategy. If the Steelers do that better in these conditions, I don't consider it "flukey." It will have meant they adjusted better, and had the better gameplan. I don't think they will. I think Allen's strong arm and superior running ability give us a distinct advantage, and will carry the day. Rudolph is one-dimensional by comparison. -

If 34 points are scored in this game - we're winning. -

One of our biggest issues all season has been receivers getting separation. This Sunday - they will. Bad footing is so much tougher on DB's, who have to react to where the receiver already knows they're going. -

He caught some fire at the end of the season - but wasn't really facing quality defenses the last few games. He has had other stretches of being pretty ineffective. He's basically the only guy on their offense we have to focus on. -

There have been a lot of weather games in the NFL. Not a scientific observation - but it seems like the team that embraces whatever the conditions are comes out on top. That was true of our playoff game against the Pats. We were having fun and goofing around prior to the game, and they had that deer in headlights look. I hope the Bills just have fun like this, and don't have the fan mentality, feeling like this is some sort of equalizer or disadvantage. Make it a playground game. With the footing in these kinds of conditions, a few trick plays & misdirections can go a long way. -

In this weather - the threat of a deep or intermediate passing game out of Pitt is almost nil. We can stack the line and focus on Harris, and stick w/ 1-1 coverage most of the game. Pitt doesn't quite have that luxury. They'll overload on the line also, but it could give us some big play opportunities in the passing game. -
Seems like a great character/culture guy. But absolutely no experience for this kind of responsibility. Obviously, he could turn out to be a gem - but the odds are against it.

Wild Card Weekend - Wild Card Weather
Success replied to WEATHER DOT COM's topic in The Stadium Wall
Games w/ this kind of wind - if the forecast holds - are pretty rare. The Bills have played in one. As far as I know, this Steelers team has not. That could be an epic advantage. Our coaches and most of our players know what works, and what doesn't. -

That's pretty gloomy. Pitt is still the weakest team on the AFC side. I think it's a stretch to talk about them like they can just impose their will on us now that the conditions favor more of a run game. The Bills can do it all, and can play as physical as any team. -
A 4th down throw into the EZ is not a suitable substitute for a punt

We had already decided not to punt. -
Top 3 Belichick memories: - throwing his cell phone on the sidelines - every moment of the Pats/Bills playoff game - today

I don't think it is. Elam is 22, and was hurt this year. He played well in his chances last year. It just strikes me as another Oliver, Epenesa, Bernard, et al - a guy who we kind of wrote off as either being a bust or not that good, but just needed some time..
-
It ended for me in that playoff game. That was probably the greatest catharsis I've experienced. Just putting 20 years of torment to rest, definitively and without any doubt.
-
That doesn't seem too bad. Worst is Douglas - but in this kind of game, Dane will do well, I think. It will be physical and he shouldn't have to cover too many deep passes, and he's great at that kind of game.

It becomes a thing, I think. If you have a great QB and can contend for a SB, it's best to win one early to get the monkey off your back. The Pats run might have been different if they lost that 1st one to the Rams. And I remember our own SB runs. Once we lost the first, it was so tense for the rest of 'em. I think I remember Madden saying something like "The Bills might want to win this one TOO badly" in the 2nd SB. Same thing happened to the Broncos around that time. But teams can shift the narratives. Peyton Manning turned his fortunes after years of being a "playoff choker" and all that. Elway did the same. Playing loose is such an important factor in high-pressure games. -

We have to make it an advantage. Our team is in Buffalo. They'll likely make the playoffs often with Allen, and will be playing a lot of games in January in the years ahead. Weather is likely to be a big factor in many of those. The team can embrace crazy weather, as they did w/ the frigid playoff game against the Pats - or fold in it, as they did against Cincy last year. I think Beane has taken steps since that game to make the team more physical, and more versatile. We can block & run w/ the best of them now. And we have a tank of a QB who can make things happen in any conditions. We probably would have won that Pats wind game if they just let him sling it the whole game. -
Congrats to BB on a great career, and for creating an entire generation of cartoonishly arrogant New England fans.

I'm worried about the weather, like most here. But what I like about it is that if we CAN take a lead of more than a score, we'll be sitting pretty. I don't think they can come back against us, if they need to pass in that weather w/ Rudolph. -
That one play was 100% worth the entire contract. Harty saved our season, and gave us as good a chance for our 1st SB as we could have hoped.

What Changes Would You Expect If Steelers Win?
Success replied to Dick_Cheney's topic in The Stadium Wall
Well, that for sure would be an extinction event. But we'd probably get another moon w/ that kind of collision, and possibly more than one, which would be cool for the next dominant species. -

I'm anticipating the conditions to be like the Ravens playoff game. That was tough wind - but nothing like the Pats game. We could still pass, but some long ones were sailing, and we missed 2 field goals. The run game & run defense will both have to be on point. -

Until the last few weeks, I thought the Steelers were 100% frauds. There is something to be said for eeking out wins in close games, so I have to give them credit for that - but they were one of the luckiest teams in the league to be in the position they were heading into the final weeks. Since they began starting Rudolph, they've looked like a different team. That concerns me much more than some wind. But I still think they're the best draw in the AFC, and a team we should beat 8x out of 10.
