I agree w/ him. I said about a month ago that I wouldn't trade Allen for Mahomes, and I feel even more strongly about that today. Certainly no knock on Mahomes - he's awesome. But Allen is the whole deal. He has literally every skill and intangible you could want in a franchise QB. And he is 24. It gives me a lot of hope that the Bills could be in for a long run. This year doesn't feel like one of those one-off kinds of things, where we have to win now or miss our window. They can build around JA for years.

Round 1 Playoff: Colts at Bills - Sat. 1/9 1:05pm

I can't say I love hearing "Diggs" and "oblique" in the same sentence. But I assume it's not serious if he was just limited and not DNP. -
He had some very good games. He had some terrible ones too, but he's a rookie. It's a good move. He may not pan out, but they should stick with him at least one more season.

That's very true. It was more that RB that beat us. They always praise BB's defensive gameplan - but was it really all that? We scored 19 points in 20 minutes. I feel like they won by keeping the K-Gun off the field. That near 10-minute drive to start the 3rd quarter was the game changer.

The 40 to 20 TOP was so tough. Frustrating to watch. One of the downsides of the no huddle.

Man, how did we lose to Jeff Hostetler. That's just brutal.

We've waited decades for this. It will really ruin me if we get one of these kinds of headlines in the next few weeks. Oh, well - that's the nature of the times. Just gotta deal, and hope for the best.

I get what you're saying. But this is such a unique year; other leagues have taken much more extensive measures to protect against those kinds of scenarios. The NFL is more complicated, but they do seem to have a "whatever happens, happens" approach. I think they could do more.
-
If we end up making a run and face a team like Green Bay in the SB, and then Rogers gets it and misses the game? That's asterisk to me. Don't want that, at all.
-
I would tend to agree, though that will create its own set of issues. I don't think the NFL can just take a passive "whatever happens, happens" approach to this. If any key player or coach misses a game, it can taint the whole thing - particularly the further we go. And while there are times when the accountability is w/ the individual or team, there is nothing foolproof against COVID - you can wear masks & distance & wash hands, and still get it. They should try to do a bubble for at least the conference championship & SB weeks.
-
With the country spiking, it's my biggest fear over the next month. I wish there was more the NFL could do for the playoffs - like the NBA and MLB. Obviously, they can't do it quite the way either of those leagues did - but it doesn't seem like they're doing much to get a better handle on things.

Round 1 Playoff: Colts at Bills - Sat. 1/9 1:05pm

Daboll has done an excellent job of developing the running game as the season has gone on. I don't have any worries about that if we have to mix it up, and think he'll adjust quickly if needed. -
Personally, I think a fair number of Bills fans are taking this game too lightly. This is a tough opponent. There wasn't really an "easy" draw in the AFC this year, but the Colts are as good as anyone not named KC, imo. They have almost as complete a team as we do. Their defense is better than ours, as is their running game, and they have a QB who can sling it, even though age is catching up with him. They DID beat Green Bay, and had other quality wins, including one against the Titans, also. I think the Bills win, but they will be a tough out.

Round 1 Playoff: Colts at Bills - Sat. 1/9 1:05pm

Agreed. Teams that can run well scare me. That's the one thing that can derail the Bills - an opponent chewing up big chunks of clock by grinding out 1st downs on the ground. Those are frustrating games to watch, too. we've had some games this year where it felt like we only had 2-3 actual possessions in a half. TOP is a key indicator for this year's Bills. If we can keep that relatively even, we generally win. -

I've always been a fan of his game, and his attitude. He had the unfortunate luck of spending his peak years in the shadow of Brady & Manning. The games I've seen this year, he's just not the same guy. He's capable of some of the old brilliance, but it seems like he can get rattled more easily, and he floats and skips more passes than he used to. Not that he can't still get it done, but he's not as scary as he used to be. Age is catching up. -

Of all the QB's in the AFC, Rivers is the guy I thought would be the best match-up, for obvious reasons. He just can't run, and we don't have to worry about that kind of containment. I think we can force a few mistakes out of him, also. That said, their running game & D are no joke, and they are very well coached. This is the best AFC playoff line-up in literally decades. I remember years that even the 4-6 seeds were very marginal playoff teams, and the Pats (or Colts) could count on a cakewalk until the AFCCG. This is such an important game. It's the 2nd to last monkey on our back (the 3rd to last being the actual playoff drought, and the last being a SB win). I don't want any more monkeys on our back. I like monkeys. I just don't like them on our back. -
Jets, Chargers request to interview Brian Daboll for HC
Success replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He'd be the right guy for the Jets. They need someone to develop a QB - whether that's sticking w/ Darnold, or Fields. He's probably the best candidate for that. But please, universe - no. -
A Few Thoughts About the Dolphins Game, in no particular order
Success replied to Virgil's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love these write-ups. And it is amazing what we're experiencing right now. It's like emerging from a dungeon after 20 years - I'm squinting and trying to get used to the bright light again. But it's a great feeling. I'd like to think that at this point, we can retire the word "Billsy." There is nothing about this year's team that bears any resemblance at all to most of the teams we saw during the drought. This team would give our best Kelly-era team a run for its money. -
So, we're rooting for Pittsburgh next week, right?
Success replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Same. I'd much rather have the re-match w/ the Titans. That first game had some flukey things, and it's tough to beat a team twice in a season. Pittsburgh is a tougher match-up, imo. But ultimately, I don't care that much. This is a great Bills team. Any given Sunday & all of that, but if they stay focused and healthy, it shouldn't matter who they play. -
What is your expectation for the Bills in the playoffs?
Success replied to Steptide's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'll add to the chorus of AFCCG. Like others, I'm actually expecting the Super Bowl - which is weird to even say, but I'm getting used to it. But the AFCCG won't be a cakewalk, and a game like that - likely at KC - can go either way. It may even come down to whoever has the ball last. I hope it happens - I think it would be a really fun game, though nerve-wracking. KC also has more big game experience right now, which gives them an advantage. Anything short of the AFCCG would be disappointing, of course. Right now, I'm mainly focused on breaking the "other" drought, and getting that 1st playoff win.
