Unnecessary Roughness Call on Tre' White ?
Matt_In_NH replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So he is limited in defending himself, does that mean you are not allowed to tackle? On that play, given where the catch was relative to the first down marker, it was critical to tackle him immediately. Is that not allowed? What does the NFL expect the defender to do in that situation? That play was really close, I can see arguments both ways but given it was a TD on the field I think it should have stood. I think people forget what things were like before replay. There were cases where a defender went for an INT, the ball bounced on the ground during the catch which would always be reversed today. Before replay it was left as called, an INT, possible game changing. The NFL does get the obvious calls right (for the most part) now vs they did not before replay. The ability to go frame by frame in HD makes the gray area calls still controversial. But all in all, replay has improved the quality of getting calls right by a lot even though there is still a lot of controversy. -
Allen has seemingly improved every half so far
Matt_In_NH replied to Big Turk's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Every half? I think he has improved every play, by the end of the next game I expect him to just take the snap and leap 80 yards to the end zone. -
Great play by Allen but I dont get the comparison to the Kelly play. That was against the HATED Dolphins, that was for a win on the road in a season where playoffs had meaning, the team was going places. This team might be going places but its not clear they are this year. Allen would need to do something spectacular against NE to win the division from them for this to be comparable. Could happen in a year or two if things go well.

Unnecessary Roughness Call on Tre' White ?
Matt_In_NH replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
So basically there is not aggressively tackling a guy to stop him from getting a first down anymore. If a guy catches it before the sticks and his momentum is going forward you just have to let him have the first down. -
Opposing defenses will adjust to Allen going forward

I did? You now misread two times........slow down, look at the words carefully. -

I think you misread. That is why I said the Bills defense chewed up the Viking offense, cause they did. -

The problem is not fantasy football it is fantasy of the mind by blinded by love homers. I was responded to a comment that said Josh Allen chewed up and spit out the Viking defense. Like I said Josh Allen played great against a great defense and made some outstanding individual plays. I think we as fans have good reason today to be very optimistic in what we have with Allen. But I just dont agree that Josh Allen chewed up and spit out the Vikings defense, they scored one TD that was not on a short field. Yes the Bills went conservative in the second half I get that. But the reality is they scored more than half their points on short fields given to him by the defense. You want some critical analysis, consider that the Bills and Vikings gained the same amount of yards in the game, 292. Which unit really chewed up and spit out the other? Its the Bills defense that chewed up and spit out the Vikings offense, that was the key to the game. -

He looked great against a great defense but 196 yards is not chewed up and spit out. He took advantage of the opportunities that were given to him by the defense and made some nice individual plays. -
I had written it off after last season and the beginning of this year but I agree this was probably the key to the game. The pass rush gave the Bills short fields and that was huge. I was getting tired of watching Hughes beat a guy and fail to finish/wrap up, it seems like that has happening for a couple years. Obviously something has changed.

The flip to RR was the worst call I've ever seen.

The evidence was clear and convincing....no clue how that was not a pass. -

Im just glad he retired and didnt find some bs injury to get his full salary/bonus. That money will be helpful next year.

Yeah I would worry now about the $5K

its not a bad day if he is wealthy and the money is inconsequential to him. If it was a meaningful sum of money in his life then he is just stupid. -
That play really illustrates how bad the rule is. If Tre does not come hard he will get the first down, the only way to stop the receiver before the first down marker is to bring the wood which he did. His head was off to the side, helmets touched....that is a penalty? It is happening to all teams but man that was a great play, not a penalty!

Night and day between this week and last week. I did not see much good last week. However telling the ref a pass was a pass was nothing.....of course he knew it was a pass, they called a pass in the huddle and then he threw it.

Watkins, Woods, 6-100, 6-81. Benjamin, Jones, 2-19, 2-63
Matt_In_NH replied to Foreigner's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
The numbers in the title of this thread dont have much meaning. But I do find it interesting that a few years back the Bills had Watkins(always hurt), Woods(just a blocker), Hogan (a lacrosse player who would only make the Bills roster) and Goodwin (made of glass). The fanbase wanted a couple Julio Jones'. The reality was the team had talent at WR but no QB to get the ball to them....it starts with the QB, a QB can make a WR, WR's cannot make a qb. -

I wonder if they like Peterman as backup QB. I expected them to sign a vet with some experience.
