The way I think about this is any big contracts you hand out affect your potential to hand out other large contracts, the cap is soft an manipulatable but the optimal way to approach it is with judicious decision making. For instance did the Bills need to resign Poyer last year at 7M or whatever he got and 2M of dead cap this year? They are ripping the band aid off now, I contend that could have been done last year. Y
Yesterday brought some clarity to this thread. The cap is not fake but it soft and can be manipulated to a point. But it is real not fake. As polian says. The cap does not forget and does not forgive.
rght now it shows about 1 million in the hole and that is without Tre White's cut. You can go in there an add that, restructure Josh and Diggs gets you to 45 Million in cap for 24 if the Bills wanted to do that.
Hate the human side of it but today's cuts make me super happy, it will facilitate the team getting healthy cap wise moving forward. They need to get younger and get rid of some of the big contracts.
Love Morse but this is in the best interest of the Bills for years to come, not just Morse, Harty, Poyer, White....this is what they needed to do. So glad Beane did not try kicking the can down the road again.
I agree but the HC has something to say about what player the HC wants them to get on the roster don't they ? Maybe the end all be all as far as the contracts go isn't his fault for signing them but he must have had some say in it and left which may have been part of his reason of leaving .
Yes he plays a role so we agree but the GM approves the contract financials, guarantees, years etc.
I thought Mickey Loomis was the GM in NO and George Paton is t he GM in Denver? Sure Payton had something to do with the over spending NO did but it is too early to say one way or the other what will happen in Denver. The fact he moved on from Wilson shows he has balls, the easy thing is just stay the coarse, Wilson played better last year under Payton. He has a vision and is pushing the team towards that vision. I don't love Payton though and would not want him instead of McDermott but I think a lot of what is in the OP is just looking to blame Payton for lots of things that were not in his control or at least partly not in his control.
