Over the past three seasons since the expansion to a 17-game schedule, 21 teams have opened the season 0-2. Only two have eventually made the playoffs. In 2023, nine teams started the season 0-2 and the Houston Texans were the only team to make the playoffs. They finished 10-7 and won the AFC South. The year prior, five teams started 0-2 and only the Cincinnati Bengals made the playoffs. They finished 12-4 and won the AFC North. In 2021, seven teams started the season 0-2 and none of them made the playoffs. In 2020, when the league expanded to a 14-team playoff field, 11 teams started with an 0-2 record and none of those teams made the playoffs. Prior to 2020, the NFL adopted a 12-team playoff format in 1990. Between 1990 and 2019, 12% of teams that started 0-2 reached the playoffs. https://www.sbnation.com/nfl/24245523/0-2-start-nfl-playoffs-how-likely-history-last-season

Thats what Im saying kinda. They both jumped into each other. The defender actually stopped and planted before hitting the wr. Then they both jump for the ball. The db jumps into the wr a little. The wr jumps back into the db a little. If that is PI on the DB then it is also PI on the WR. They both have a right to go for the ball. Neither can really play through each other to do so. On top of that the ball wasnt really catchable. Too high IMO. I dont really care that they call it but IMO its one they should have let go. Especially with the amount of way worse should be penalties they let go all the time.

The receiver jumps back into him

I started this thread and it wasn’t about how bad Mahomes was. It was about how I was shocked about their gameplan to basically just throw handoffs behind the los when they have the best qb in the league. It was an I was surprised thing. Not a I think Mahomes sucks thing. you’re way too sensitive for other QBs.
-
This is exactly where the DB stopped and set his feet. He then started his motion to jump up for the ball. You see he isnt touching the receiver here. The receivers momentum carried back into the DB. While I am fine with the call and dont really care about it. I think its a bit more than just black and white.
-
So the defense isnt even giving a yard? Thats one hell of a defense.
-
Good catch. Yeah they would be incompletions. Perhaps they were throwaways out of bounds or they hit the same spot as another play so you cant see them. Its also possible they made a mistake. I dont the answer though.
-
Not even what I am saying at all. Its just surprising to see a team that has the best QB in the league not actually throw the football.
-
Yes under 10 yards. Half of his passes were thrown behind the LoS or at. Half of what was left was thrown under 5 yards. 1/3 of what was left was an INT. Another 1/3 and incompletion. IOW I never seen a Mahomes offense lack this much balls. Nobody is trying to put down Mahomes. Holy crap dude.
-
Yeah I probably would be too. Its just that I see the defender stop and start jumping upwards before he makes contact. The wr backs into the DB. While the DB cant drive through the WR, he has a right to space and play the ball, the WR cant drive through him either. Slow speed you can see this a lot easier. It's really close. Doesnt look like it lets you adjust that here but if you watch it on twitter you can.

In case you all want to watch the turnover machine over and over

Gabe Davis... 7 targets 3 receptions 43 yards

The more I watch this play the more I think the defender did a good job. Put it at 1/4 speed. The defender actually stops before he gets there just as the receiver backs into the same spot. Im ok with the call still because you cant slow that down on the field. To me thats good defense though. Just my opinion right or wrong. Dont really care but its fun watching this stuff in slow mo.

Since we have some 0-2 teams to keep an eye on in our conference, I thought I'd post this little tidbit from an sb nation article... No not this bad. Taking underneath stuff and quick passes sure. All those passes behind the LoS no not really.
