Every Buffalo media guy seems to be portraying it the other way. Sal was again talking about it. Beane had limited 1st round players somewhere in the 18-20 range and he expected at least 1 or 2 to be available at 25. Then they asked about RB and Beane seemed to lump them in with the next group and on his show Sal said basically if all of the 1st round talent was gone - they would look at RB, but that position would require someone with exceptional talent to exceed the positional value. So maybe he did not come right out and say they do not have a 1st round grade, but the way he spoke and the things the various media got from interviews seem to point very highly to them thinking he is not a first round talent (He might still get drafted in the first because of the limited talent levels in this draft). We will see - as I have said - he could take him, but I think that would be about the last thing they want to do. I struggle to find many recent 1st round RBs that are elite and worth the pick. You don’t think the Giants are kicking themselves for picking Barkley at this point. He is way over paid for his production. The sweet spot is 2nd and 3rd round for RB because the salary is acceptable and you can run them into the ground and move on. Many of these 1st round guys end up getting a huge second contract to justify the pick (Zeke, CMC, even Barkley got his option) and they just are not worth it. Give me Walker in the 2nd or Cook in the 3rd and a premium position in the 1st and I am happier than Hall in the first.

Who do you fear more - Henry or Tannehill? Of course Henry - so teams gear their defense to stop Henry and that does open up the field for Tannehill. Who do teams fear more: Mahomes or CEH Allen or Hall/Singletary Murry/James Conner If they fear the QB more - they will play cover 2 shell and protect deep against better QBs. That is the current NFL and you let the RB slowly move the ball and you rally to tackles. It becomes a game of patience- who changes first and when you have elite QBs - they want to move the ball through the air - so it becomes when do they take that shot. Hall would be a great pick and will help the team - his speed is nice and he is fluid in catching the ball. It is just that it is no longer the 1970’s and 1980’s where defenses gear up to stop the run - opening up the passing game. The NFL defenses look at ways to stop and counter you biggest weapon and if a second weapon ends up beating you - that is life. The Bills 2 years ago showed that with CEH when he had his best day in the NFL - they looked to stop Mahomes and if KC stuck with CEH - we let them. The Bills did the same thing versus NO and Kamara the year before. They try to stop the run with the front 4 and rally beyond that. The difficulty I have is do people expect Hall to have significantly more usage than Singletary because the reality is: 1) Singletary has a 4.8 YPC average on the Bills (mostly due to lighter boxes and multiple longer runs for TD) - in limited runs will Hall match that or like ~95% of backs be lower than that? 2) Will Josh throw more dump offs with Hall versus Singletary? Singletary was open - along with WRs short all game long - Josh, Mahomes, Murray - they all look deeper to shorter and take shots. We see guys open short all game against teams like Jacksonville last year, but they did not take what was given and I am not sure Hall changes that. He is still the 4th or 5th option on a passing play. I do think Hall can attack defensive edges better than Singletary with his speed, but as we saw with other speed backs - you need a line to open that up or the DEs/OLBs just force them to turn it in or bounce it further back and the plays do not consistently win in the NFL like college.

Because even the Bills GM has confirmed that he does not think Hall is a first round talent. When asked about positional value and a RB and this draft - the answer was we only have about 20 1st round grades in this draft. Then he went on to say that with positional value - if all of those picks are gone - it would take a phenomenal athlete at RB to overcome the lack of value in that pick to match up to other positions. Basically he would draft a RB in the 1st round, but that player would need to be exceptionally talented and all other positions with first round grades would need to be gone.
-
Yes - top 5 in scoring, top 5 in rushing yards, top 5 in rushing average per carry, Top 10 in passing yards, top 10 in TD passes, top 10 in rushing TDs, etc. They were one of the top offenses all year and that included multiple games with really bad weather.
-
And you know what happened when Henry was hurt - the Titans ran the ball nearly exactly the same with 3rd and 4th back-ups. Was it the o-line or Henry that drives the Titans running game.
-
That assumes he has better stats than 95% of the NFL running backs because that is where Singletary was. You also rush Hall versus Allen - you are going to average 3-4 yards less per carry than Allen was doing. I get the idea - it just has proven to be false for the most part in the NFL since the 2000’s. The top RBs in the league don’t win championships. People complain about Edmunds (a 2x pro bowler) drafted in the first, but think that a RB is the missing piece on the top offense in the NFL.
-
I am saying at no time did the Bills shift to 8 in the box to fully stop the run. Yes you can lose to a team running the ball, but are you more afraid of the Bills trying to beat you by running Breece Hall 40 times or Josh Allen?
-
I totally get that - the argument was that teams will have to put 8 in the box to stop the run. That is not happening. I also think he will be more fluid than Singletary as a receiver, but my guess is teams will continue to attack us as they have the Chiefs - back to front. Take away deep, double cover Diggs, and if we flip it short to a RB - rally to the tackle.
-
No they won’t- it is pretty simple. Teams would rather force the Bills to play a long drive and run the ball and see if we would stick with the run. It is the dumbest of arguments because the only way a RB changes the defense is to make them the focal point and that is taking the ball away from our best player. That was the same argument KC made and no one cared about the RB - it just doesn’t matter. Points come from passing.

This post is all sorts of wrong. They already picked up Edmunds 5th year option last year. He is playing on that now!!! So basically your entire first paragraph is wrong. If it is telling that they haven’t picked up his option, but they have picked it up - does that make it equally telling they like him? What pray tell does it tell us now that you have learned the option was exercised - just like Oliver’s. The 2nd paragraph also holds little water as the Bills FO have moved on from various draft picks as needed if they are not up to speed - the problem is they have drafted very well (best in the league by several metrics) and therefore have not had to move on from many picks.
-
That is not going to cut it no matter what they have going on. 800,000 on NBC on a Sunday afternoon by week 2. They are dead in the water. The drop was worse than AAFL and XFL both and about what they saw in week 4+5. It is going to be hard pressed to support the number of players needed and the games are not very good.
-
Ahhh - the old it is not me that is the problem - must be everyone else that is the issue - line of reasoning. I come in - don’t do any of things I should - like search - and whamo everyone else on the board is an issue. Then I will throw shade and tell people to ignore me. Instead of that - fix the issue - delete the duplicate - read through one of the threads presented to you and add your thoughts - plus you get the added benefit of already seeing what people think. Or add the thoughts on to any of the other threads about who the Bills should draft and ask the questions. There are many solutions over ignoring a poster, but when people do dumb things - they get dumb responses.

I am not sure about this. The next stadium being looked at in Tennessee is a Dome in nice weather. The Washington team is hoping for a domed stadium like SoFi or Dallas. I think more and more are looking at domes - especially larger areas as they are looking at multifunctional purposes.
-
The real question though is if we had drafted Humphrey and he sat on our bench as a back-up center behind Morse the entire season and played less than a handful of snaps - How would you feel about the choice? He went to KC and was able to play right away - the interesting part to me was how much praise was heaped on him and his fellow rookie linemen, but teams were getting pressure on Mahomes all season. They switched to a shorter passing game to attack underneath and even in the playoffs - the Bills pressured Mahomes and forced him out of the pocket - they just couldn’t get the sack - he escaped and ran for big plays. I think that entire line was overhyped big time because of the QB and coach. You can never assume the success one player has or does not have would follow if he was on a different team and situation. I think this board would be complaining about the lack of production if Humphrey had been the pick.
-
Why would they fear him? Most teams would prefer we run as they fear Josh Allen. If he becomes top 5 in the league - he is basically matching what Singletary does. Overall our rushing is hurt because he will not average what Josh gets and those are the carries Hall would get. The only way it changes how defenses approach us is if we take a significant number of plays out of Josh’s hands and become a more run focused team. Otherwise Hall is just CEH in KC - no one cares if he runs the ball - you stayed deep because Hill and Kelce are what will beat you.

Only if you like just 1 player and even then the philosophy above is wrong. No team should be that tied to a player that they pick him at 25 out of fear he would not be available at 57. That is how you get huge reaches. QB is the only spot you might use that philosophy- never for a RB. The Bills should have a nice group of players to pick from at 25. Beane has spoken about the draft and having a limited number of first round grades. They have also stated that based upon positional value - the RB would have to be elite to allow them to match the value of more important positions. Therefore - the questions are does Beane consider Hall to be Elite enough to by-pass other positions he values much more highly. Next question is who has dropped and is there any of their 1st round talent left. Third - in picking at 25 - if all first round talent is gone - who is left in the group and are they premier positions. Beane will have to figure that on Thursday night. Based upon how he has treated the RB position since arriving - I would expect the Bills will come to the conclusion that a 3-5th round pick at RB will give nearly the same output on the limited touches as Hall.
-
Because the cost of a player at that point for RB is too high and you waste the 5th year option that is a huge plus of the 1st round. It is why Beane has repeatedly talked about positional value - Beane came out and said RB is not a position they would pick in the first round if they have someone with a first round grade. If they do not have a first round grade - the RB must be elite compared be compared positions that are graded higher in value. RB as a position has very little value because RBs make little difference to teams. Since the Bills only have about 16 1st round players - If one of them is there - that is your pick. If they are all gone - the Bills will then have to decide Hall versus positions of value. Since the Bills were willing to sign McKissic as a low end FA - I can not imagine they value RB very high. I still expect and would prefer several of the other RBs later and get actual talent in the first.
-
I find this to be hugely interesting because I can easily see the Saints, the Steelers, and the Lions - all looking at QBs - with the Lions at the very least - using pick 32 to get that 5th year option on Willis. Especially because I think he will need time to grow and that team has a huge talent gap. I still think by the end of the night there will be a minimum of 2 and maybe 3 QBs going. I am just not sure they go early enough to push talent down to Buffalo.
-
I think it is unlikely, but I could see the general idea behind it. The problem I have is if you are trading Poyer and Edmunds and getting back Bradberry - you now have you DB - so you are picking LB or Safety at 7 and that seems like a high pick for those positions. I could see it for Hamilton more than a Off Ball LB, but it would fill needs and adjust holes. I think the Giants want a first next year to go after QB - so there maybe some additional draft pick or player changes to help get the Giants a 1st next year that fills additional needs - maybe they use Toney as a 2nd player. That fills CB and WR - opens Safety and LB. Use the 1st on safety and a 2nd or 3rd on LB - I don’t hate the idea - I just think in the win model of this year - I am hard pressed to see them losing that much leadership from the defense.
-
My guess is you are going to be disappointed. The Bills staff brings rookies along very slowly - with only 2 starting as rookies (White and Edmunds) full time in game 1 and the rest working their way into the lineup throughout the year. Anyone they draft at 25 is most likely riding the bench as a back-up to start the season - the Bills are not drafting for needs currently - the draft is about upcoming needs. The only position as a rookie that might start is CB, but even then it will just be fill in work as the DB’s get healthy. Every other position - including RB - most likely starts as a back-up and has to earn reps. A rookie RB that struggles blocking will not be playing a bunch of snaps early in the season. At pick 25 - in a draft with 15-18 1st round level players (and several of those at DE/EDGE) - there are almost no impact players that can “move the needle” on this Bill’s roster.

Devonte Wyatt DT- Could this be our #1 Pick?
Rochesterfan replied to PrimeTime101's topic in The Stadium Wall
So what are facts and what are rumors that the GMs have heard. If as according to Walter (which I think is just about the least reputable site imaginable) the Private Detectives looking into the background of this player for the GMs has uncovered at least 3 cases of potential domestic violence and presented that to the GMs - that would make that a fact in their eye - not a rumor. That would definitely lead to increased questions and scrutiny over other actions. If on the other hand - it is just additional Walter BS and it was not data provided to GMs by background detectives - then it is 100% rumor and should have little impact. The issue is we the general public do not have all of the facts and the rumors that the GMs have to sort through. It can be especially difficult at larger colleges and universities that do “internal review” of suspected cases by campus police and withhold information from real police and the public - especially as related to sexual assault or DV on campus. I don’t know what the truth is, but even rumors of multiple DV could cause some teams to question where to place him on the board - just as song and TV show lyrics on Twitter could cause exams to question a player like Josh Allen. -
Ooh some real excitement - push back football for a baseball game - that should drive viewership.

Ike will be interesting - even Buffalo Rumblings expect him to start on PUP - unlike what they said about Tre’. We will see - His last injury took him just about a year to get back when he tore the Achilles last time. We will see how quickly he returns, but even when he got back the first time - it took a long time to regain his strength and ability to plant and set himself. He might be back, but I would expect they are going to let him wait as there is no need to rush a back-up OL back, but Tre’ is a starting CB and if he feels ready - they will get him action as soon as he is cleared. I don’t expect him to participate much in anything like TC, but I would not be surprised if by week 2 he is getting some snaps. I am not ready anything - I am going off from what people that talk to the team on a regular basis are saying about the timeline. Either way we will find out later on, but since they have some of the best injury management people in the NFL - I will let them figure out when he is ready.
-
Actually Sal has said it on more than one occasion and when he had Parrino or Jon Scott on the other day - they said the same thing. They both said everything they have heard was he was ahead of schedule and they were hoping to find out more with him at OTAs, but the Bills did not make him available so far. Players come back all the time now and are playing by 6 to 9 months. The timeline projected was the one Sal talked about as unlike normal people - Tre has access to 0 stress workout like underwater treadmills where they can regain strength without putting weight on the knee. They begin working out now much sooner than they could do in the past. They also have increased access to flexibility experts to ensure they have flexibility to regain motion as they are in constant physical therapy. More and more players are coming back like Amari Rodgers at 6-8 months after surgery. As long as they are well managed. We will see where it ends up, but unless he has a set back the guys covering the team seem to think he would not hit the IR and would be able to do limited snaps early in the season. Did you read the Buffalo Rumblings article - they put him as back at the end of the Pre-season. Not starting practice, but that would be his optimal return date.
