  1. So I have 3 players I think we might draft with the 8th pick in the 2nd round: Jawaan Taylor, DK Metcalf or Irv Smith. I'm going to say we draft Irv Smith because I think TE is our next highest need and he has those Alabama ties to Daboll.
  2. I just assume this is here somewhere, but I'll post it anyway: http://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/winners-and-losers-in-the-first-round-of-the-2019-nfl-draft/ss-BBWiNfR?li=BBnb7Kz&ocid=iehp#image=1 Winners and losers in the first round of the 2019 NFL draft by Doug Farrar Winner: The Bills' defensive line: Congratulations, Bills, You got to watch Houston defensive lineman Ed Oliver, the best defensive player in this class, fall to your ninth overall pick, and you were smart enough to draft him. Now, let me give you a bit of advice. Don't do what Houston's coaches did and play him at nose tackle 65% of the time. Instead, make him a 3-tech tackle who can flex out to end, and watch him use his generational combination of power, speed, and leverage terrorize the other quarterbacks and running backs in the AFC East and beyond. Comparisons have been made to Aaron Donald, but Oliver reminds me more of Hall-of-Fame defensive tackle John Randle in his furious, unstoppable style. (Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports)
  3. I know... didn't anyone listen to his interview?
  4. Ummm... who did they want us to draft?
  5. This had to be expected after Detroit took Hockenson. We needed interior DL. It was our most pressing defensive need. We filled it. Awesome. Expecting Metcalf, Taylor or Irv Smith to be our next pick.
  6. Happy with the way the 1st round evolved. We filled I think our most immediate and pressing need on defense with Oliver. You can really tell he's really a McDermott guy in terms of character. I really wanted Hockenson, but obviously we weren't given the chance to get him. I expect Smith, Metcalf, or Taylor with our 1st pick in the 2nd round.
  7. Wouldn't be disappointed about that at all. I'd be disappointed if we draft a CB or LB first. Everything else is fair game in my eyes. And offense, I believe, is the priority. So an LT would be great since we don't have a clear Franchise LT on our roster. Still prefer Hockenson, though.
  8. https://www.google.com/amp/s/theathletic.com/940291/2019/04/23/from-dream-picks-to-trade-down-targets-the-bills-most-likely-options-at-no-9-in-the-draft/%3famp From dream picks to trade-down targets, the Bills’ most likely options at No. 9 in the draft The top options Ed Oliver, defensive tackle, Houston Kyle Williams’ departure has left a hole on the Bills’ defensive line at three-technique defensive tackle. Ed Oliver would be a welcome substitute. He was miscast as a nose tackle in Houston’s defensive scheme but is at his best when penetrating into the backfield. Both Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott attended Oliver’s pro day workout at Houston. It was one of just two pro days McDermott attended this year. If Oliver is available at No. 9, he will be tough to pass up. Brugler rates him as the No. 5 prospect in this draft and describes Oliver as an “ideal one-gap penetrator due to his athleticism, instincts and relentless nature, projecting best when he is lined up closest to the football.” T.J. Hockenson, tight end, Iowa It’s fair to question the value of drafting a tight end in the top 10 of the draft, but it’s a lot tougher to question the talent of T.J. Hockenson. When Brandon Beane talked about scouting tight ends, the first thing he mentioned was run blocking. Hockenson is the most complete tight end in this class due to his polish as a blocker and ability to do everything an NFL team will ask him to do. Brugler considers Hockenson to be the No. 6 player in this draft and an immediate starter with Pro Bowl potential. That doesn’t sound like a reach at No. 9. Jonah Williams, offensive tackle, Alabama Opinions vary on Jonah Williams. Some question whether he has the physical traits to play left tackle in the NFL and would prefer to see him play guard or center. However, he didn’t allow a sack at Alabama last season and has a proven track record as a tackle. He clearly offers versatility, and that should only boost his value. Williams also possesses an exemplary work ethic, keeping spreadsheets on his opponents while often watching more film on himself than his opponents. Brugler’s No. 4 overall prospect would fit right in on Buffalo’s remade offensive line.
  9. C'mon folks... I see this has moved, but I'm surprised it hasn't moved more. Hockenson still seems like our most likely pick, to me. Metcalf is a maybe. Fant if we trade down... or trade up from the 2nd with our 2nd pick--but I won't remove him. Jacobs is off the table at this point. If I could replace him with someone it'd be Jonah Williams because I really think we're going offense early.
  10. Hockenson. The way the off-season has played out it's obvious we're drafting a TE 1st or 2nd, and Hockenson is top 10 on most big boards. Plus, McDermott went out of his way to rave about the importance of the TE position for a young QB at the owner's meetings. And who exactly do we have at TE right now?
  11. So anyone who has a subscription to The Athletic can view the 2019 Consensus Big Board: Comparing Draft Forecasters vs Evaluators, which compiles 45 big boards of draft forecasters and evaluators for the top 300 prospects. I'll just give the top 10 for the Forecasters and then the Evaluators. Forecasters 1. Bosa 2. Q. Williams 3. J. Allen 4. D. White 5. Oliver 6. Sweat 7. R. Gary 8. Hockenson 9. K. Murray 10. J. Taylor Evaluators 1. Q. Williams 2. Bosa 3. Oliver 4. J. Allen 5. B. Burns 6. D. White 7. K. Murray 8. J. Williams 9. Hockenson 10. J. Taylor Bills draft at 9.
  12. From Jay Glazer's pre-draft mailbag over at The Athletic: What’s more enticing to Buffalo at nine, completing the rehaul of the offense and giving Josh Allen a weapon or filling the underrated hole left at three-technique in the wake of Kyle Williams retiring? —Brandon B. To be honest with you, this is a quarterback-driven game now. I would give them their version of Gronk, T.J. Hockenson from Iowa if he’s available. Team these two guys up so they can just grow together over the years, at least you would have two big, strong guys at quarterback and tight end so they can build the receivers around them. I think that’s the perfect fit, I think you can get a three-technique guy probably in the second round but if you have a guy in Hockenson who is such a grinder as a blocker, for a tight end, and he can catch the ball so well for a big guy like that, that’s who I would go for. He’s Gronk-like.
  13. Well-reasoned post here. But things are a bit sad with politics these days. Similar or even lesser offenses to what Trump was presented to do in the Mueller Report got Nixon out of office. This irrefutable Republican defense of Trump is part of what flipped the house in 2018. McConnell is smart... what's the game here? He doesn't want to lose all 3 branches to Democrats, but that's looking more likely if Democrats play their hand right. Trump deserves impeachment, in my opinion. But I hope Pelosi doesn't do it, largely for the reasons outlined here.
  14. To be clear, I didn't say the economy is horrible. It's good for now, but it was growing steadily in the 7 years prior to Trump taking office, so calling this "the Trump economy" as though he created this is disingenuous. And projections are that the economy is slowing down. And this tax cut is breadcrumbs for the middle class and sandwiches for the wealthy. And it's adding SooOOooo much to the deficit, which as you know is something Republicans apparently care a lot about when Democrats are in office. And as far as feelings about those tax cuts: Does a 40% approval rating really jump out at you? I mean... that 40% is pretty ironic since it's pretty much where Trump's approval rating hovers, but if Independents are the determining factor in Trump getting reelected, 32% doesn't bode well. The economy got a shot in the arm last year with the Tax cuts... we have 18 1/2 months until the election. How confident are you it will get better or at least stay the same? And as for the folks bringing up all the stuff about skeletons in Biden's closet coming out... well... Trump still got elected, so likely will Biden if he winds up being the nominee. Another big mistake on Trump's part, I believe, was renewing his pledge to repeal the Affordable Care Act... though now he says they will put that off til after the election, which will make many of those who were "on the fence" vote against him considering he just wants it gone (Dude has serious Presidential Envy going on) with no plan to replace it with anything. Hell, even Fox friggin News had a poll in the last year that showed it had a 51% approval among Americans and this guy says to axe it without even a replacement plan? The guy's an idiot and just needs to go.
  15. Great... Bills apparently were more likely to trade up than back a week or two ago... now this... At least these guys are covering all possibilities
  16. Where's the half truth? Did he not promise 4%+ GDP growth? Has he delivered or even come close to it? Banking () on the economy as Trump's primary accomplishment (what else does he have exactly??? Saw that North Korea is back to testing missiles... guess no Nobel Peace Prize for Trump ) is going to be an interesting narrative to watch in the next 18 months or so.
  17. 100%. There are homeschooled kids who turn out great just like there are private and public school kids who turn out great. In each and every case, though, it starts with parents. School is the supplement. So the 2 students I have going to Harvard I feel pretty confident knowing they have a pretty good home life. The dirtbag who had his parents call the police because I "kicked him" while he was sleeping in my class (I tapped my foot underneath his chair... though can't say he didn't deserve a kick) who's parents were emailing me and meeting with me in the weeks prior because their son "doesn't want to attend school because it just doesn't interest him, so can you make it more interesting?" while I was adjusting curriculum to "make it more interesting" (because I try to make it boring normally) who was ultimately an accomplice to getting one of his classmates shot in an execution style drug deal gone bad I know will end up in prison or pumping gas. I get both ends of the spectrum. And I still love my job. But anyone berating the teaching profession because they get so much time off doesn't get the crap that goes with it. Anyone wants to homeschool their kid. Fine, be a good parent. Anyone wants to send their kid to a Private School. Fine, be a good parent. Anyone wants to send their kid to a Public School. Fine, be a good parent. Cherry pick a school or teacher here and there... that's fine. Teachers are overeducated (required) and underpaid, though... so that should be a sign of a place the country might want to look. In a profession that (back to gender equity) is the ultimate woman's profession... you get what you pay for...
  18. Hell yeah I am. Wife and I owe the government for the first time ever despite owning a house and her claiming 0 and me claiming 1. And call that my fault for not adjusting if you want, but that shouldn't have happened. That's happening to a lot of people. This is supposedly Trump's biggest accomplishment, except as projected his "biggest tax cut in history" is doing more for the wealthy than the middle class and is making a yuuUUUgggee dent in our national debt, which Republicans seem to care about a lot until they're in office. Besides, the economy of the last 2 years has really just mostly been riding the coattails of the economy of the previous 7 years. And it's slowing down. Yes. Biden is the guy I want running the most because I feel pretty confident he's easily going to beat Trump... and see portion of my above post for at least part of the reason I feel that way.
  19. See, this is the rabbit hole I'm not going down and the reason I don't stay. You're trying to cherry pick and oversimplify. I'm just going to say I disagree and enjoy my holiday off with the family. Happy early Easter and Go BILLS!!!
  20. Yep... sure did reach his promise of 4%+ GDP... Oh wait
