He's good any time he's given the keys. He was good to end the 1st half, too.

No. I'm sorry but you're just wrong here. Yeah, Allen threw the ball 41 times. 17 of those passes were when the game was basically turned over to Allen on the last drive of the 1st half and the last drive of the game. Between those 2 drives that took up less than 5 minutes of the over 28 minutes of TOP we had, Allen threw 17 times for 165 yards, was 3/5 on 3rd down conversions, including a 3rd and 13 after an offensive penalty put him and the team in a precarious situation--Lee Smith, if you're reading this... STOP DOING THAT!!! Allen was 9/17 for 165 for a 9.7 YPA on those 2 drives in those less than 5 minutes For the other 23+ minutes of the game pretty clearly called by Daboll, he was 13/24 for 101 yards for a 4.2 YPA. The OP is right. Let Josh be Josh. Maybe he should just be handed the ability to call his own plays all game on Sundays. Disagree that he's given that freedom in any real sense. Maybe he's told he has it, but I definitely agree with the premise of this thread that Daboll and McDermott are trying to rein him in. Just look at the wild disparity in 2 drives to end each half vs the rest of the game.

Other than the deep ball, Allen is fine as a passer. Hell , let him run the damn plays himself. Let him sit in the shotgun and pass and tell him to run when he sees open field in front of him. Another irritating thing with Daboll are the designed runs. Allen is effective as a runner primarily on passing plays after things have broken down and he choses to run. Last year his average YPC on scrambles was more than double what it was on designed runs.

Deep ball has been atrocious. But no, you're looking at his other passes with your "grass is greener on the other side" glasses. You're probably just dumbfounded John Brown is making NFL catches when another guy we had on our roster as a starting WR for 2 1/2 years made routine NFL catches look difficult.

Some of the responsibility ALWAYS falls on the QB. Of course it's part Allen and part Daboll. It's just that it's not equal parts.
-
Except our OC is an idiot and only gives our best RB the ball 8 times.

Don't remember that particular play so I have to go back and check which play you're talking about. Was this the "wildly inaccurate" throw often attributed to Allen or the type of NFL throw every single NFL QB--including the most accurate ones--misses occasionally? I'm not saying he doesn't still miss on some of those short to intermediate throws, but he's missing those at a fraction of the rate that he was last year.

Daboll is an excellent play caller
transplantbillsfan replied to Buffalo Barbarian's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Disagree. I think the system is fine. Allen demonstrates he can run it just fine when it's turned over to him the way it was late in the game today. What Daboll pulls from that system in the context of the game when he's calling plays is not. Might be time for him to go up in the booth. -

No. You can't do this here because I HAVE placed blame on Allen. He is awful as a deep passer and has a big Big BIG problem holding onto the football when he's running. I'm highly critical of him in those 2 aspects of his game. Long term if he can't hit some deep passes I don't think he can last in this league. But other than that, I'm sorry but I strongly disagree. Are you honestly telling me that as you watch you think Daboll is calling great plays? @oldmanfan started a thread in the last week or 2 to just let Allen be Allen and I think that's an accurate assessment. Put him in shotgun and spread the offense out. Keep an RB in the backfield and run it on occasion, that's fine. Keep doing the motion sweeps with McKenzie. That's fine. But this play calling has just been like throwin crap against a wall and hoping something sticks. Once again, Allen hasn't been excused because I really think his deep passing and fumble issues are BIG issues. But otherwise he was good today. If you don't think he was good without those few deep misses (we're there 3 or 4?) and the fumble he lucked out on, can you identify a handful of plays that you would qualify as bad? I also counted like 3 drops by WRs and a couple good passes by Allen that were just really well defended. -

No. Daboll sucks as a game day play caller. His offensive system might be fantastic, but Daboll isn't good on Sundays. The coaches need to have an epiphany this week of we want to continue winning and make the playoffs at the end of the year. Right now, game day coaching and play calling is our biggest problem. -
Bills at Browns Post Game Post Mortem
transplantbillsfan replied to Hapless Bills Fan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yes. Absolutely. Daboll is infuriating. When the Bills NEED to move down the field, Allen has been able to do it. End of the half down by 2 he got the team into very easy FG range. Hauschka missed. End of the game with less than 2 minutes at their own 25 and 1 timeout Allen moves the team into FG range for the tie. But it's long FG range and stupid coaching takes over. First with the huddling up to waste time. Then icing our own kicker. Coaching is this team's problem. Ironically it's also the reason according to the national media we have the record we do. Personally, I think out coaches just might be great in terms of preparation and terrible on Sundays. Daboll for sure and starting to feel that way about McDermott as well. -
First time all season Allen's dropped below 60% Completion Percentage. Allen is much improved as a passer this year, but for him to last in this league he needs to hit some of those wide open WRs running deep. And he needs to stop fumbling the damn ball! I don't like Daboll. Actually, I don't particularly care for Frazier or McDermott right now either. 3rd or 4th straight week we got run all over. Time to start trusting your Franchise QB. Put him in the shotgun and just let him run his plays from beginning of the game to the end, not just when the team "needs" to move it. Notice that when the Bills need to get yardage and get them in scoring position, he does. Really tells me we have a play calling issue for the rest of the game.

Week 10: Bills at Browns
transplantbillsfan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This game is going to be feast or famine. Kareem Hunt's first game back along with Chubb. If Buffalo has fixed their run D, they need to show that tomorrow. If they haven't, we might be screwed. The Browns have a pretty good D. Let's hope Daboll calls a good game and Allen doesn't throw it to the other team or put the ball on the ground. -
https://theathletic.com/1360812/2019/11/08/bills-notes-stats-and-thoughts-jarvis-landrys-past-ed-olivers-role-and-the-afc-playoff-picture/ Where’s the YAC? The Bills are 28th in the NFL in yards after the catch. Given the added emphasis on the short passing game, the lack of yards after the catch helps explain Josh Allen’s low yardage totals this season. While Allen continues to struggle with the deep ball — he’s now 0-for-13 on passes that travel 30 yards in the air — he’s been efficient in the short passing game for much of the season. What he needs is a receiver who can create after the catch. Other than Isaiah McKenzie, the Bills don’t have that player on the roster. I’m sure Brandon Beane and his staff have been scouring the country in search of that type of receiver in the 2020 draft. The Bills need more players who can create their own big plays on offense.

Trump foreign policy

Trump is brilliant with PR, I've always given him that. Own every single one of your indiscretions to the masses, present those indiscretions as perfectly acceptable, and cast doubt. The ignorant, lazy and loyal will believe him or just not care enough to fact check--ignorant and lazy--and it'll cast just enough doubt publicly where the argument won't hurt him long term. I know you're loyal. You're spewing his words back to me as though they carry equal weight to the sourced Washington Post. Wake up!!! You're being lied to!!!
