  4. an article from yesterday. it gives a good look at the deaths up till Friday in some detail. not to be calloused, as i do value all life but we are seeing an emerging trend line. Older or Unhealthy: The first 48 U.S. coronavirus deaths in detail ... Thirty-seven deaths (77% of total) are in Washington state. Four deaths are in California: A woman, 90s, in assisted living. A woman, 60s, hospitalized in Santa Clara. An elderly man in assisted living. A man, 71, with underlying health conditions who had been on a Grand Princess cruise ship. Two deaths are in Florida: A man and woman, both in their 70s, died after returning from foreign travel. One death is in New Jersey: A man, 69, who is diabetic and suffered two cardiac arrests, has died. One death is in South Dakota: A man in his 60s with underlying medical conditions has died. One death is in Georgia: A man, 67, with underlying medical conditions has died. One death is in Kansas: A man in his 70s with underlying health conditions died at the Life Care Center in Kansas City. 6. your right, what the hell was i thinkin'. i find this foreign body in my water, ain't no way in hell i'ma boiling it. where the hell is that damn foreign Brita???
  7. i suffer myself from time to time with reading comprehension so please do not take this the wrong way. the words “inevitable”, “recipes for disaster” preceded the conditional tense of "if". further, the conditional tense of "if" was, again used immediately to precede, “it is exponential and inevitable.”.
  8. aren't there a required minimum number of days? and/or you know... maybe just do things the old fashioned way and boil your friggin' water if your that worried about foreign bodies in it..
  9. it's a situation where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. to reiterate this point the President originally took flack back when he banned flights from China Jan 31st. not wanting to make this political (and please don't make it political (we have a thread for that in PPP)) but it has to be pointed out in order to buttress this position. what if all European flights had been banned at that time as well, the outrage would have been off the charts. yes i will grant that there are/were certain things that could have been handled differently but the main point remains, no matter what would have been done, it is open to criticism, you are not going to win in this type of situation. add in the fact that China tried to hide/repress the conditions on the ground (who knows what actually happened to this day) and actions/reactions are all but impossible to make accurate decisions with regard to.
  10. how is it a contradiction? one can not think that it is not what it is being made out to be and also believe the spread is inevitable?
  11. i am probably in the minority here in thinking this virus is not the big deal it is being made out to be but these are recipes for disaster if you are trying to contain the spread. if one is sick, how many people around them are they going to infect? then they are going to go out and... it is exponential and inevitable, you just aren't going to contain it with authority making decisions such as these.
  12. what the water will do, is wash any particulates out of your mouth/throat before they can be inhaled into your lungs.
  13. neither one has promised her a cabinet position it would seem.
  14. on an individual basis, yes. however if we zoom out slightly and look through the lens of viewership based upon the demographics of Conservatives and Liberals, Fox with it's Conservative viewership and the combined MSNBC/CNN with their Liberal viewership, are about the same. this is purely and accurately reflective of the political divide that exists.
  15. i thought it was a 'guesstimate' put forth by the governor of Ohio which would be essentially semantics but still a difference in wordsmithing and thus, meaning. i might also take exception here in the 'logic', going with the fact that China quarantined all of Wuhan and essentially ground all of the Hubei province to a halt. not exactly an apples to apples comparison. as such, the math is not complete. not that i agree with the Ohio 'guesstimate', just pointing out flaws in the logic used. ETA: in no way am i disparaging you here. you are doing yeoman's work in this thread and i for one am very appreciative as i'm sure many others are as well.
  16. you best hurry and establish your own, 'corner'. https://twitter.com/V_actually/status/1238103452040990725 or you may want to package it up. credit here goes to the PPP'ers...
  17. from the 27th of February. testing flaw? Coronavirus: Japanese woman tests positive for second time A woman working as a tour bus guide in Japan has tested positive for coronavirus for a second time, in what authorities have said is the first such case. The woman, who is in her 40s and a resident of Osaka in western Japan, tested positive on Wednesday after developing a sore throat and chest pains, the prefectural government said. She first tested positive on 29 January and was discharged from hospital after recovering on 1 February, before testing negative on 6 February. The development came as the prime minister, Shinzō Abe, said Japan’s entire school system, from elementary to high schools, would be asked to close from Monday until the spring break late in March to help contain the outbreak. The health ministry confirmed the woman’s case was the first in Japan where a patient tested positive for a second time after being discharged from hospital. Cases of second positive tests have been reported in China. The outbreak has spread rapidly and widely, infecting about 80,000 people globally and killing nearly 2,800, the vast majority in mainland China. “Once you have the infection, it could remain dormant and with minimal symptoms, and then you can get an exacerbation if it finds its way into the lungs,” said Prof Philip Tierno at New York University’s school of medicine. He said much remained unknown about the virus. “I’m not certain that this is not biphasic, like anthrax,” he said, meaning the disease might appear to go away before recurring. ... NYT article disputing the above... They Recovered From the Coronavirus. Were They Infected Again?

  20. Statement by the Department of Defense on Domestic Travel Restrictions Today, the Deputy Secretary of Defense David L. Norquist approved new travel restrictions for service members, DoD civilians, and their families assigned to DoD installations, facilities and surrounding areas within the United States and its territories. This restriction will halt all domestic travel, including Permanent Change of Station, and Temporary Duty. This restriction will also pause civilian hiring at DoD installations and components for persons who do not reside within the hiring entity's local commuting area. Additionally, service members will be authorized local leave only, following Service guidelines. This new guidance is effective March 16 and continues through May 11. Similar to other travel guidance regarding COVID-19, travel exceptions may be granted for compelling cases where the travel is mission-essential, for humanitarian reasons, or warranted due to extreme hardship. Approval authority for these exceptions belongs to the Combatant Commander, the Service Secretaries, the Chief Management Officer, or the Director of the Joint Staff, but may be delegated. The Department will continue to issue additional guidance with regard to the COVID-19 as conditions warrant. Our goal is to remain ahead of the virus spread so our military force remains effective and ready. For more information on the CDC travel restrictions, visit https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/. We encourage all DOD personnel to visit https://www.defense.gov/Explore/Spotlight/Coronavirus/for information on staying healthy during the outbreak. The Department will issue follow-on guidance on this directive prior to implementation.
