A semi-negative article about Kamala Harris? From yahoo news!? Why did Kamala Harris let Herbalife off the hook? </snip> Documents exclusively obtained by Yahoo News show that in 2015, prosecutors in the San Diego office of the California attorney general sent Harris a lengthy memorandum that argued for an investigation into Herbalife and requested resources in order to undertake such an investigation. Similar investigations into Herbalife were already taking place elsewhere. A week after the San Diego letter was sent, Harris received the first of three donations to her campaign for the U.S. Senate from Heather Podesta, the powerful Washington lobbyist whose firm, then called the Podesta Group, had worked for Herbalife since 2013. </snip> Wilkes did not know that at the time, Herbalife was represented by Venable, which also employed Harris’s husband, Douglas Emhoff. Emhoff does not appear to have been involved in Herbalife’s affairs, but his work at the firm came to the attention of Christopher Irons, a financial journalist who first reported on the Emhoff-Herbalife connection. “Surely this would seem like some sort of enormous conflict of interest, no?” he wrote in 2015. </snip> Since then, however, she has faced questions about whether her progressivism is genuine or only a matter of political expediency. She has yet to explain why she declined to pursue a corporation accused of exploiting her Latino constituents. </snip> -
Refugee Crisis in the U. S. (?)

Note: I could not figure out WTH this was about. I had to look long and hard for a news report on this and only was successful after using duckduckgo instead of google. Link to stories: Feds: Forgery operation in Oregon produced over 10,000 fake documents "The fraud ring operated in Woodburn for more than a decade and produced over 10,000 fraudulent documents that they distributed in Woodburn or mailed to customers around the United States," U.S. Attorney Billy Williams and Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter Sax said in the plea agreement </snip> Huge forgery operation halted Group produced more than 10,000 faked documents SALEM, Ore. – Located in an apartment in a primarily Hispanic town in Oregon, a clandestine lab churned out thousands of fake Social Security cards, drivers' licenses and immigration documents that were sold around the United States for years. The operation, revealed for the first time this week in a federal court document, showed that a syndicate based in Oaxaca, Mexico, operated the forged-document factory in Woodburn, a town of 24,000 in an agricultural region a half-hour's drive from Portland. Employers, including farms, nurseries and wineries, routinely employ people who are in the United States illegally but who can produce a Social Security card or work visa. Many agricultural employers say it's not their responsibility – and that they lack the expertise – to determine whether the documents are genuine. </snip> -

</snip> After more than a year of reporting, Menn persuaded O’Rourke to talk on the record. In an interview in late 2017, O’Rourke acknowledged that he was a member of the group, on the understanding that the information would not be made public until after his Senate race against Ted Cruz in November 2018. </snip> -

When they made the Johnny Manziel announcement last night I immediately turned to Hubby and said I was surprised Chad Kelly wasn't playing. I would not be surprised to see him there in the future. Maybe he is waiting for his legal troubles to be settled?

So the announcers during the Apollos game just said Johnny Manziel signed with the AAF. What team should be interesting.

No, my in-laws all assimilated very well, my BIL's big difference (from his parents) was the lack of accent. It could be that their origins were European, even though they came over from Africa. ?♀️ In my family, the assimilation on my mother's side was much better than on my father's side (same ethnic background), although when you start tracing the family tree, my father's side of the family has been much more economically successful over the last 100+ years. Again, I cannot help but wonder if it is on the person, rather than the family unit? My grandparents (and their siblings, on both sides) were desperate to "be American".

I think it depends on if immigrants settle in a ghetto (ghetto meaning the traditional definition of a ghetto - people of the same ethnic group settling in the same area). My great-grandparents did. My great-grandmother died at 93 speaking almost no English after being in this country for nearly 80 years (she could understand though). My great-grandfather spoke and understood English very well. My in-laws came over from Africa. They assimilated very well even though originally they did settle with "like people". My MIL never lost her accent. My FIL spoke a buncha languages (including English and Arabic) before arriving, so he had an easier time of it. My BIL sounded like a Chicago dockside worker even though English was not his first language. (My husband's first language at home was English.) I can't help but wonder if it was more on the person than even the family unit?

Yeah, I have no idea what he was reading. Nearly everyone in this thread said that this is not the answer, and how terrible for those people and the shooters are horrible people. The dude and bilz stated they had seen things in wartime that civilians cannot understand (and I am certain they have) and it leads people who have fought in wars (or military actions) to think differently. No one here condones this massacre.

The news is reporting some "yellow vest" looting today. Anyhoooo water cannons and tear gas used again today. These protests are getting sparser as the police use these tactics. I wonder what happens when decent weather hits? France's Yellow Vests clash with riot police in Paris, water cannon and tear gas deployed with at least 20 arrested PARIS IN FLAMES: Tensions in France ERUPT- Riot police fire tear gas at furious protestors -

Well, Beta definitely isn't "the guy". All that stuff about his fantasy writing at 15 (!!!) coming out so early? The Dems would have buried it so deep before he declared if he was supposed to be this cycles empty suit.
