The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19
Buffalo_Gal replied to Hedge's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The 31st, right after the US did. Once the US did, they all did. It was a gasp from the press and other countries, but then everyone else started shutting down. I am not sure if that was because the US did it first, or because some intelligence was shared, the US closed down, and then everyone else figured they could too (since the US did it). -
The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

We did errands yesterday, and I wore a mask (N95). Never again. I literally could not breathe. I have NEVER touched my face so much in my life!! Hubby was looking at me like I was a Drama Queen (ok, maybe a bit, but I could not breathe...) while he didn't even take his mask off in the vehicle. Clearly I never worked in construction or in medical. Mad respect for those people. If we go back out to a store where a mask is mandated again (Valu was the only place that we went yesterday that enforced this), I am wearing a scarf. -

The Next Pandemic: SARS-CoV-2/COVID-19

My post from April 7th. Because I got tired of this one. The US was the second country to close to China. The first one was the Marshall Islands, population 58,000. Airport information. Not a lot of air traffic. MARSHALL ISLANDS imposed an entry ban on anyone from China or who has transited through China, requiring that those individuals spend at least fourteen days in a country not affected by the coronavirus prior to arriving in the Marshall Islands, effective January 24 If accurate, this would be a great source for travel restrictions. Everyone else followed the US travel ban (recall the gasp heard 'round the world?) -

What exactly is a cult member? I'm scratching my head over this one. It sounds like reporting what the daily pressers say make me a "cult member." It sounds like blaming the source, China, makes me a "cult member." It sounds like watching the mobilization of our health care, R&D, manufacturing - which has been completely hammered the last 8-40 years in pro-China, pro-offshore, policies during that time - and being in awe of what has been accomplished during that period, makes me a cult member. You are now blaming the US for not having a spy in the Wuhan facility. Whoa Nellie... I think you may want to check a few articles on Hih, Harvard, the WHO, and more (use duckduckgo as google scrubs). Follow the money. Follow the people who have ignored current government regulations to do what they please (follow the money). I am pretty sure there may be more of this in the China thread. -

If you all would watch the daily press conferences, you would have seen the CDC guy, Dr Birx, and Dr Fauci say that this may come back again in the fall very strongly. This isn't news. Please, turn on the pressers. Listen to what the people there are saying. Some information may sound repetitive, but that is so it sinks in. Daily, they have new information, new clarity, new ideas, new guidelines. This is a new virus. It may have its genesis in old viruses (and why many think it was engineered in a lab). Without honest information, the US and Europe can only rely on what they have seen/experienced the last 2+ months. There are new studies daily, some are contradictory (Dr Birx addressed that... yesterday? Two days ago?) I am not certain it will ever leave us, hence the need for a vaccine. You all can thank China for another virus that will be with us always. -
The Georgia Governor is on Fox right now... Martha MacCallum asked him WHY would you open up hair dressers, nail salons, and tattoo parlors first? Governor: Because those are the businesses that are closed. He's also talking about all the hospitals that are paying off because they do not have work (elective surgeries, etc). Businesses can do temperature screening on their employees. He's making a lot of sense. His state will be watched closely, I am sure.

OAN Press: USA Today poll, 80% of Americans are supportive of the immigration ban. Trump: He's always so happy when OAN lobs up a softball after dealing with the piranha in the room. And that's all for tonight folks! -

The press is really on fire with the stupid today! Repetitive, dumb, and attempting gotchyas. SMH. -

Press: Virus escaped from a lab, who told you that? Trump: I can't tell you that! Something about US intelligence. What kind of a question is that? They told me plenty. (he was definitely exasperated) Trump wants the golf courses open. Not a shocker. This was being asked about the Trump properties,... he said "my children run them." -

Press: Hair salons, nail salons, tattoo parlors when can they reopen? Dr. Birx: Based on a community by community opening. If they can social distance, they can do those thing. I have no idea how they can do those, but people are very creative. This was about Georgia, but her answer was much more generic. Shesh, Trump said the parade idea "when all this is over" is a great idea because the healthcare workers deserve it (how over is over?) -

Press asking about the immigration order. Trump: If they are under court order, they need to go to court. The people that are already here legally are not supposed to be under a greater risk of deportation. (buncha press questions, this is my synopsis) Trump is doing this as protecting American worker's jobs. -

Dr Hahn (FDA) up: FDA was asked to remove all unnecessary barriers by Trump, the FDA did that. (So, if they are unnecessary, why have them?) Two types of antibody tests. They are beginning to understand them for detection at different points of the infection. Discussing the test validation for the new tests that have been coming out since March. The FDA still expects the developers to validate their tests. Working with CDC to validate the 90 manufacturers (independent validation). They are not playing... they are going after anyone saying a test has been approved when it has not. Press: How many of these tests actually work? Hahn: Self validation and they must label that. Expect to have more results on the FDA validation. Press: Wanting to beat up on hydroxychloroquine again. Hahn: Doctor needs to consider the prescription. The one study the press mentioned was small. And, the preliminary date says hydroxychloroquine has been helpful. All trials are in progress. It will be early summer before those trials are finished. Press: Va study, that more people died on hydroxychloroquine than off it. Trump: We will take a look at it. Asked a buncha stuff, including about NK. Trump: I wish him well. LMAO It was CNN that came out with the report, and when CNN comes out with it, I don't put too much credence in it. -

Dr Birx: Improvement across all large metros. Still seeing outbreaks in care facilities (elderly) in rural areas. She's talking about distancing, hygiene, etc. We will continue to see more deaths as they will lag, especially in cities. -

Bringing back the USS Comfort to VA. NY does not need it any longer. FDA authorized 50 diagnostic tests, including the first one approved yesterday that the patient can do at home (doctor's order). -

Press: how many jobs have been saved so far? Mnunchin: 30M And he's talking about more distribution on the checks. Trump back: Immigration suspension. Unemployed Americans are first in line for jobs when America re-opens. We will first take care of the American worker. 60 days, will evaluate at that time based on economics. Sounds like no new green cards. Pence visited a GE plant that is making ventilators. 50K produced in a few weeks. Trump/Cuomo meeting. Goal of doubling testing. NYS will continue to control the testing in their states. Have a ton of labs in NYS. Saying very nice things about NYS and NYC. -

Mnuchin up: Thanking Mitch and Chuckie. Also thanking Kevin McCarthy and Nancy (makes me think the House will pass it). He said, "We look forward to the House passing this tomorrow." Have over 1M companies with less than 10 workers have received the money. He said that some big businesses have taken the loans (and given back). New, FAQ coming out. Press: will you request the big companies return the money Mnuchin: yup Trump: Harvard will be paying back the money. Mnuchin: attest to certification. (went into the bigger businesses returning the money at no liability) Press: Who long will the new money last? Mnuchin: Put out more money on this than the last 10 years. Didn't answer. ? Press: Criminal question Mnuchin: they had done 5 years, it was shorter than before, and they will not be changing that Press: How many more phases? Mnuchin: Pass 4 (with infrastructure), broadband to rural area, sports, entertainment, payroll tax cut, states. Sounds like he is hopeful phase 4 is it. Press: Last payroll money? Mnuchin: We expect so. Press: What will phase 4 cost? Mnuchin: No comment Press: Oversight? Mnuchin: We have independent oversight, and are looking forward to Congress confirming that person. No one lender sent out more than 4%. Mnuchin - big team effort. And he is praising everyone for unanimous consent. Mnuchin: airlines shut down, and he's talking about the oil (less use, more supply), looking for all options on energy independence. -

Trump up Praising medical professionals. Pointing out the per capita death rate is lower than most countries. 20 states (40% of our country) is opening up (safely). Senate passed paycheck protection program (and something else) act. $382B small business money $75B hospitals $25B for coronavirus testing Urging House to pass the bill. -

Buried in this thread is a tweet from one of the ventilator manufacturers (back in February or early March). He laid out exactly why everyone who manufactured ventilators in the US closed up shop except for his family-owned company, and one other company. He stated the taxes on Obamacare made it very difficult for ventilators to be made in the United States. He may have been lying (not sure why he would be), but as the guy whose factory was one of two building them... tough to disregard what he said.
