This is the thing. We’re getting played here. These aren’t random Afghans that helped the CIA at some point. These are Afghan/American and American businessmen that can’t decide if they want to leave, because they’re holding out hope that their business can survive under Taliban rule. These are people that parked money there in natural gas, and a whole host of other things. We’re supposed to use our volunteer army, your sons and daughters, to protect a bunch of rich businessmen that can’t decide if they want to leave or not? No, we most definitely shouldn’t be putting American lives at risk for that. These people can pay and hop on any one of those pay charters going out each day.

Since when are we responsible for every single Afghan life when withdrawing from war? Half of the people at that airport were civilians that weren’t even supposed to be on a plane. Its easy go sit there and say it could’ve been planned better, but not without putting more American troops at risk due to Trump’s removal. I wouldn’t put 5k extra American soldiers at risk for that mission. Anyone that still needs to get out can hop on a pay charter flight, etc. There we’re lots of Afghan/Americans that don’t even know if they want to leave yet because they’re financially tied. What are we supposed to do? This got ridiculous real quick. America never signed anything that guaranteed every Afghan that wants to leave be brought to safety. That’s nuts! They had 3 months to plan their exit.

Well, Trump reduced the troops to like 2k, so the choices are send in 5k more troops and put them in danger when you know ISIS is around, or have the Taliban secure the perimeter at 1 airport and get people out. It would’ve been much more difficult to secure 2 airports. I understand why they didn’t want to do that. I mean, they got over 120k people on planes and to safety in 17 days. That’s incredible if you really think about it. That’s 3 MetLife stadiums jammed full of people on planes. You definitely couldn’t defend against suicide bombers at 2 airports, and I assume that’s why they went with 1. What other country would’ve put their soldiers in danger to do that? None. Personally, I think it was bit excessive, but if there really were that many people that needed to leave then fine. We can’t bring the whole country home with us.

In a normal market that house would probably be 400k. That’s what we’re waiting for. 2 hour commute to where? NYC? That’s too far away from the city to commute. That’s like 15 minutes west of me. In the morning that would take you an hour to get to the city. 1.5 hours to go to White Plains. You’re not touching anything anywhere close to that nice and that lot in Florida for under 700k now. You can’t even get 1 acre lots in Florida for under 1 million, unless it’s in the sticks. Who wants to live in Ocala? Our gas is 2.89 right now. Walkability? Where the hell you walking to? We have some of the nicest parks around here, skiing, canoeing, tubing, hiking, biking, train right to the city, etc. You mean like pushing a baby stroller around the neighborhood?

You’re being tricked. We have a low gas tax, no tax on food, clothing, etc. That’s money you’re spending down there each day that doesn’t come in a quarterly TAX bill. You’re getting raped in Maryland. You just don’t see it.

But you’re talking about an extra 5k in property taxes to live somewhere nice and you make almost double here. That’s what I’m telling you guys. Chasing cheap living and property taxes in the south ended 15 years ago. Florida filled up, then everyone went to Tennessee, then Georgia, then NC. You’re not getting a deal down there, not even in Knoxville Tennessee. Those days are long gone. Georgia still seems to be the best bang for your buck, as far as the house you get for the money. Fredrick Maryland is more expensive than here in NJ, by a lot too.

I live in Morris county which is right where the green meets the red in the northern part. Property taxes aren’t anywhere near 20k, but they might be 12k. Those would be pretty large homes on 1.5 acres. Probably 3k square feet with 2 car garage and deck.

No. You’re looking at the wrong numbers. The taxes down by Newark and the Oranges are that high because they give you the house for free. It’s a program to get people to move there and fix the area up. You just pay the property tax.

I used to live in Manchester. Our political consultancy firm was out of there. I hated it at the time. It was so cold! Don’t leave there. You’ll be sorry.

That’s where my goats come in. With goats it’s only like 5k a year. NC is more than that. If you’re close to NYC, taxes can be 10k year, but by me I think it’s around 7k. It depends where you are.

Like New Haven or Hartford? Ya, you’d be smart to never leave there. You won’t make nearly what you make now in Florida.

I wasn’t joking when I said NJ was cheaper than Florida. It really is now. I was priced out of my comfort zone in Florida 10 years ago. We’ve had this conversation before. Florida is full! Bay Harbor Island is where you want to go if you must go to Florida. Don’t settle for Orlando. Go somewhere nice. That’s because the states lack basic services and have low wages. Where do you live?

You can’t afford Sanibel island anymore. That ship sailed. My parents lived there for a few years back in the early 2000’s. Fort Myers is kinda trashy too. Don’t go there. The houses were built with that Chinese drywall. Naples is pretty cool. But for that money I would go over by Bay Harbor Island and be with your peoples. Way nicer on that causeway. 10 minutes from the stadium. Jacksonville sucks. Orlando really sucks! Don’t go there. Lots of northerners make the mistake and move to Orlando because they don’t know any better. Don’t do that.

At the same time, people make so little that they probably qualify for the state Medicaid and dental, and that’s a big deal when you get to be our age. If I was 20, I’d leave, but I’d probably take that lower wage and HC at my age, since Florida has nothing.

How can the state of NY have such different pay like that? That’s why there’s so many conservatives on this board and why taxes matter. You must feel like a big shot down there in Maryland. I haven’t worked in years and before that ai had my own business. I didn’t know it was that bad. That’s why you see so many people from Ohio and Pennsylvania moving to Florida. They see it at worst as breaking even, with nicer weather. See, this is what I want to change. I want you to make more.

No wonder all of you move from Buffalo to Florida. They probably view that as a pay raise. Why does Buffalo pay so little? I could probably make 80k a year in Albany and it’s not that far away.
