Yeah I think they weren't willing to overpay for any of the free agent QBs. Maybe Bridgewater picked the Jets over the Bills, or they offered better contract incentives? Seems like a very similar deals. Bridgewater signed a 1 year deal that has a base salary of $5M and is worth up to $15M. Although he signed after McCown did, and McCown was told he would be starting, so you'd think Bridgewater would've had a better shot at starting here. Which is the one thing that makes me wonder if maybe we weren't interested in him... edit - I guess the deal with the Jets is potentially worth more. I was thinking McCarron was on a 1 year deal worth a possible $16.5M, but it's a 2 year deal. So Bridgewater can potentially make in 1 year what McCarron can potentially make in 2 yrs.

Well, I can't say that I know a whole ton about McCarron outside the limited snaps I've seen him take for the Bengals, but I can say 1 thing for sure - I like this a lot more than I would have liked giving up a 1st (+ possibly more) for Nick Foles! Hopefully all that crazy talk about pick #21 for Foles can die now... We have a guy who should be able to start opening day next season, and we didn't give up any assets to get him leaving all that draft capital for a (possible trade up for a) QB in round 1. And if we we didn't know for sure before, now we know 100% that the Bills are going QB high in the draft (at least IMO).

With the way things are shaking out in free agency I am thinking more and more that the #3 pick is our target. With The Browns signing both Carlos Hyde for 3yrs $15+M ($6M year 1) and Isaiah Crowell for 3yrs, $12 M, they look to be going QB at #1 instead of Barkley. Gettleman said if he uses pick #2, that player should have hall of fame potential. They seem to be all in on making a run with Eli the next few years. If Browns go QB at #1 and Barkley is sitting there at 2, the Giants might not want to even trade out of that spot. Barkley would be a huge help to Eli and seems to fit Gettleman's criteria of hall of fame potential. If that's what happens it would leave pick #3 as the perfect trading spot for the Bills. It'll be cheaper than trading to 1 or 2 - it may only take our two 1sts plus the Cleveland 3rd (that would equal just slightly more than the draft value chart for the #3 pick), or maybe one 2nd (instead of the 3rd), leaving Buffalo with their pick of the remaining QBs and a good amount of draft capital to still improve the team (1 or 2 2nds, 1 or 2 3rds, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th). Indy has a ton of holes and wasn't all that active in free agency (I believe they've only signed 1 guy so far...). Ballard has said he's a huge believer in building through the draft. We will see soon enough I guess...

Sal says UFA QB's was not the Bills plan
BillsFan4 replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Wow that tweet he replied to was quite interesting - Wouldn't you think he'd want to gather as much information as he possonly could on every 1 of these QB if they're really drafting a guy at 1? Unless they're really just that sold on Darnold. I mean, they could still have them both in for private workouts. But why not go to their pro days anyway? Do you know, Did anyone One from the Browns attend? Their asst GM maybe? -
This makes me appreciate the Dareus trade even more. Im not sure what Suh's cap hit would have been for a team that traded for him. I know it would have been lower than what it would have been for Miami, still more than Dareus though. But Suh has performed much better than Dareus on the field, and I don't think he's had any drug related suspensions or off field arrests that im aware of (I know he's not facing a 10+ game suspension for his next mistake...) and Miami could not get a thing for him. They had to release him.

Still no contract numbers for Star? I'm hoping this is a good sign that the numbers are team friendly...
-
I believe so. I think he was a free agent, not cut. Redskins were trying hard to keep him.
-
Not sure they see him as that, given it looks like his contract is 3 years $21 million.
-
Agree. Thats why I quickly changed my post. I figured it might be a bit confusing, as he will likely be a DE here. You must have quoted me before I changed it...

Sounds like we may have beat out the Patriots and Redskins, who both supposedly really wanted Murphy. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/03/14/report-patriots-buccaneers-bidding-for-trent-murphy/ This is a nice signing. He's pretty good.

Beat me to it! lol

My prediction - They struggle for the first few games of the season due to some of these key losses in FA and roster turn over. Everyone goes nuts once again spouting off about "this is finally it for the Patriots, the Dynasty is over!" And then they, once again, start playing amazing right after that, go on a run and win the division as always. As long as they have Belichick preparing guys throughout the week + devising his master game plans, and Brady playing at the level he is, they will be good. Their downfall is inevitaby coming. But I won't believe it until I actually see it happen for an entire season or more (which I doubt will be next season). It'd be a lot more fun legitimately beating the Patriots while they are still good, anyway. Maybe if we finally get our QB that will be a real possibility (even if not this season)...

Who would you rather have: Luck or Foles?
BillsFan4 replied to IgotBILLStopay's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Luck all day every day. Even in 2016, playing on a torn up shoulder, he threw for over 4200 yards and 32 touchdowns. He is a very special QB. How can you even start to compare him to Foles? Luck has been vey good to Great every single season in the NFL but 1 year (2015, when he originally injured his shoulder). The year before (2014) he threw for almost 5000 yards and had 40 TD passes! Foles isn't even worth a 1st round pick, let alone being in a discussion with Andrew Luck. He's had 1 good 8-9 game stretch (in his 6 years in the league) way back in 2013, and 2 good playoff games 4 years later. Both came under new, innovative offensive minded coaches (1st year of Chip Kelly, Doug Peterson tailoring his play calls to Foles. And notice how in 2014 Foles wasn't nearly as good in Chip Kelly's offense as the league caught up to what they did. In fact, he was bad). -
Bills Re-Sign Kyle Williams To One Year Deal
BillsFan4 replied to dgr81's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Kyle Williams conference call (sorry if this has already been posted) http://www.wgr550.com/articles/news/williams-buffalo-home-it-s-where-i-want-be Love KW so much. So glad he's back. Itll be great for all the rookies that we may potentially bring in this year, too. Glad he will be there to mentor them. -
Spotrac always changes the cap numbers right after a trade happens, so it can be hard to find accurate information. Those numbers you posted are actually what he will cost for the Bengals. His cap hit is cheaper for Cincy since the Bills already paid over $30M (of the $65M) the first 2 years. His cap hit for the Bills would have been - https://www.buffalorumblings.com/buffalo-bills-news/2016/5/7/11616536/cordy-glenn-contract-details-salary-cap-savings-for-buffalo-bills 2018 - $14.45M 2019 - $12.45M 2020 - $12.7M

If you're scouting Allen off his highlight reel (which it seems like many people do this time of year), he looks amazing. But when you watch him play entire games, not so much... He may have the highest ceiling of any QB in this draft, but I think it'll take a perfect scenario, and maybe a bit of luck, for him to reach it. If yoire trading up for a QB it's already a huge risk. No reason to make that risk even higher by going with such a total boom or bust QB prospect. Plus, Accuracy issues can be pretty hard to fix. The only one I can think of that has ever succeeded in the NFL with a 56% completion percentage is Matt Stafford. But when you look at his career lege career, Stafford had a 55% comp. his first 2 years in college, but then he improved that to 61% in his final college season. So he wasn't entering the draft after throwing for 56% comp. He had already shown the ability to be more accurate over a full college season. He had steadily improved over his 3 years in college, too. Ill get excited about and support whatever QB the Bills take. But I'd prefer someone other than Allen. But I'm not expert, so I'll defer to their judgement. It would be quite a swing for the fences drafting Allen though. If he hit his ceiling, we'd be set for a decade +.

Bills OT Henderson will sign with Texans

Wow! Although it says "up to", so we will see what he has to do to hit that $4M number... -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets
BillsFan4 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah for sure, they could just dump Hack or Petty or both. But I was just saying that they do have 4 QBs now, 2 of which the current GM drafted to develop and we have no idea how much he likes them. I doubt any any of the 4 QBs on their roster make them pass up a QB at 6 if the guy they like is there. But maybe with the Bridgewater signing it will be enough to keep them from going hard after a trade-up? (I hope...). I don't really know what the Jets are doing, to be honest. lol -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets
BillsFan4 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Id love to know if the Bills did make an offer to him. It it doesn't seem like they really went very hard after any available free agent QB, which makes me wonder if they have a trade in place for a top 3 pick and are just waiting for Glenn to have his physical in Cincy? I can dream, right?! lol -
Bridgewater to Sign with the Jets
BillsFan4 replied to MAJBobby's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting... Do they still go QB at (or above) 6? Hopefully not, but I wouldn't bet on that. I am guessing they still do. Although they already have 4 now - McCown, Bridgewater, Petty, Hackenberg. -
Being on a short leash could also be a reason to go with a QB further along in his development like Bridgewater. I think the Jets will probably still go QB at 6 too. Im just looking for possible reasons for them to not do that, is all! lol I want both the Jets and Broncos to be satisfied enough with their QB situations that they feel no need to try and trade up, or even better pass on a QB in the top 5 all together! I know it's probably unlikely but I can hope...

everything I've seen says in His rookie year he finished 2nd in the NFL among all defensive tackles in run stop percentage and was ranked 6th best defensive tackle against the run by PFF . https://www.footballoutsiders.com/index.php?q=stat-analysis/2014/run-stop-rates-2013 https://www.profootballfocus.com/news/2013-pff-defensive-rookie-of-the-year Carolina's defense went from 14th against the run the year before, to 2nd in the NFL against the run in his rookie year. (110yds per game in 2012 to 86yds per game in 13). They finished 1st in the NFL in sacks, too He also finished 4th in AP defensive rookie of the year voting.
