  1. When you look at his career, which part of it was based on evaluating NFL talent? He was always in "operations" guy from almost the very beginning. He was "manager" of operations for a long time. Then became "director" of operations. And then promoted to AGM. No background in talent evaluation. He's great at managerial stuff. So, essentially, he's a manager. Not a talent "finder". He's going to rubber-stamp what McD wants. Again, Charlotte got lucky with Cam. If we lost one more game then them that season, we'd have Cam instead of the weed smoker and we'd be in the playoffs already. Having Cam makes up for a lot of short-comings. But it doesn't make them great at building consistent winners. Which they really haven't exhibited. That's why I'm underwhelmed by McD, underwhelmed by Beane. One thing yes, Beane is good at relationships in Charlotte, so everyone speaks well of him. That doesn't make him great at building a consistent winner. We'll see. He's got a 5 year contract. And he inhereted decent talent. He has to find a QB soon. That'll make him a competent hire. Not a great hire. http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Examining-why-Panthers-parted-ways-with-Dave-Gettleman/6b8b96da-b6ed-4814-8ca2-29bf7542aa17
  2. Richardson is talking to Hurney to bring him back as GM. This was the guy who drafted the current nucleus of players. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000820525/article/marty-hurney-meeting-with-richardson-about-gm-job
  3. Beane is more of the "manager" administrator type. And that's why he complimented Gettleman. His strength is NOT at finding talent nor managing cap. That's the job the other guys, i.e. Hurney, and Gettleman did. Honestly, it sounds like we hired an office manager at GM position. That's why he's beane using Pegula money to hire as much talent finders as possible.
  4. holy crap, I guess we ain't talking about Gettleman anymore. lol. so there's like different cultures in English cities eh? In what sense? Pubs are different? different cuts of chips? That's what I said on the first page. This was planned. Much like the Whaley move. With Whaley they waited till drafted was done. This time they waited until FA moves have been settled. This decision was made much earlier. Not just a spur of the moment as some are thinking due to vet contract talks.
  5. He's butt sore Bills didn't make him a big offer. His little ego was hurt. Get over it man, like honestly. You got ur big fat contract, in a big city, with a team that's got a QB. things are good for you. stop gloating. no class.
  6. Here are his 1st round picks starting in 2013: Star Lotulelei, Kelvin Benjamin, Shaq Thompson, Vernon Butler, McCaffrey. Outside of Benjamin, the other 1st rounders have been busts. Ok, bust is harsh, to make a point but outside of Kelvin, others have been underwhelming. The current superbowl roster wasn't drafted by Gettleman and his men. I think that's an ISSUE wouldn't you say? And what does that say about Beane? geez. Now I think we got a lemon here.
  7. Seems like a pattern with prima donna players. Nothing new here.
  8. Looks like Beane was a smart boy, getting out of there before the house cleaning. Rumblings had been in place, just like Whaley. Now I wonder if he'd been part of the "problem" in Carolna.
  9. Once the stadium is in place then yes that valuation will go up. Pegulas have to do much more though. Doesn't help that they have had such a high payroll
  10. Only three NFL teams didn't make the list of most valuable sports franchises. Bengals, Lions, Bills. Bills have the WORST value of an NFL team. Far below Cleveland Browns. Pegulas paid $1.4bn for Bills. The last valuation was $1.5bn. This is their WORST investment thus far I'd have to think. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kurtbadenhausen/2017/07/12/full-list-the-worlds-50-most-valuable-sports-teams-2017/#67fff5414a05
  11. But Belicheat will coach forever. He and Boston fans sold their souls to remove their curse.
  12. Here's a clip of Darnold being interviewed on ESPN, and was asked about Jets' "Suck for Sam" campaign. He told them "no team should tank for me" LOL RIP JETS. Ok, he said he's taking one year at a time, so he may come out after this year. He doesn't come across to me as the most confident of QBs. But the kid is built big. He isn't a skinny slim like so many NFL QBs. I think that's going to help him deal with the pounding.
  13. Nope. Not even their first superbowl when Brady was starting. I wanted Rams to win that one. Because Rams were entertaining. And it turns out Pats cheated Rams of that superbowl. And not in ANY superbowl. I really enjoyed the Giants beating them in every superbowl.
  14. yeah I wonder if he'd be dead had he informed them that he's got a legal firearm.
  15. The hope with Dennison Offense is his familiarity with it and his running ability will make it more dynamic than other QBs. That's why I liked the RD hire. Rick knows enough of TT's throwing weaknesses to make the calls. Here's hoping for a better passign game. Now if he can convince Tyrod to anticipate throws, Fk! we'll be rocking.
  16. Maybe we should split the thread for a separate discussion on Andrew Luck? LOL
  17. lol this is the source of fan frustration and anger.
  18. Yeah I know they'd stillend up with a good QB. Just that from everything I've read they're pretty hard up for him lol. Have you watched his games? He sure passes the eye test. It's not his "physical measurements". nothing to do with size or whatever. It's the poise, decision making, arm, mobility, toughness, and rising up to the occasion in big moments. Yes I'd like to see him do it again this year. Hackenberg had a great freshman(?) year and then everything went south so things can still go wrong.
  19. NYPost has a story on it also. I didn't know that they tanked for Peyton Manning and he stayed in school LOL! OMG Pats fans must be loving this. http://nypost.com/2017/07/05/next-years-nfl-draft-jewel-sounds-major-alarm-on-jets-tank/ And he just might, just like Peyton did.
  20. According to Daniel Jeremiah, Darnold might stay for one or two more seaons at USC. This is going to crap up on JETS' tank plans LOL. Are they willing to be bad for 3 more years? LOL go JETS! http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000818303/article/what-we-learned-about-darnold-top-prospects-at-the-opening?campaign=tw-cf-sf95555414-sf95555414&sf95555414=1&utm_source=t.co&utm_medium=referral Jets have a new Logo as I hear:
  21. I have not only looked at "income tax" but at broader taxation. Income tax is just one part of total tax burden. Burdens of the state are increasingly being shifted to the middle class and the poor. The tax on consumption for instance - the sales taxes have only been going one way in the last 40-50 years, and that's up, along with "user fees". The vast majority of us have to consume our earnings. And when we consume, we pay tax, AGAIN. While the wealthy, consumption is but a tiny fraction of their earnings. Most of their earnings go into investments, which are not taxed until they "cash out" the earnings. Those are the shifting of burdens of the state from the rich to the poor. If you don't get that many are being screwed for the sake of a few, then this morass you and I live in (yes, what happens in US impacts Canada because we have to "follow" your policies so that we don't lose rich in our country to yours which you apparently accept with ease!) will continue to get worse. The worst economic crises in the world in the past century was brought about by the "excesses" of the rich living at the expense of the vast majority. You remember the "roaring twenties"? And everything was great and grand then right? Guess what followed that. Yes, the great depression, and WW2. We were at the cusp of a major global economic collapse in 2008. It took unimagined action by governments around the world to save the world economy. But the saving didn't fix the issues underlying it. The root of which lay in loose regulations and structural economic imbalances. The more wealth is concentrated, the less productive the economy becomes, which forces the Fed and central banks to keep interest rates uber low, the greater the risks super wealthy are allowed to take with the greater wealth they have. Which leads to one too many excesses in one aspect of the economy (housing was the last time) that led to its inevitable collapse. And the cycle repeats. While the wealthy will lose some of their wealth in those crashes along with bruising of their ego, they never lose their shirt. But the minions like you and me (if you are one), lose not just shirts but homes and our very way of life. It's inherently unfair and in a democracy, not a monarchy, why is this kind of "rigged system" tolerated? 2016 was a threshold year. Trump rode that resentment (very ironic, because he benefits from the root cause) in the US. Trudeau in Canada rode that resentment to a surprise win. But change has been slow in Canada. I do not see changes at all in the US. IF things don't change, change will come like breaking of a Dam. And we'll all be damned.
  22. LOL if they are public servants, let's pay them like public servants!
  23. I'd like to see where you get that stat from. Taxation in the world used to be a lot more progressive than it is now. Just ask Warren Buffet. His personal tax rate is less than that of his cleaning lady. Point 2 - the infrastructure of the state exists to "protect" and "enhance" the value of properties and businesses and corporations. Guess who owns said properties? Thus who should pay for said protection and enhancement?
  24. Imagine a 1000 yard receiver who drops 3 touch down passes in a conference final or a 4000 yard QB who throws bushels of INTs in the playoffs and never gets to Superbowl and gets paid $33m a year. Now imagine this in NBA. It just happened. Kyle Lowry from my home town NBA team got paid $33.3m per year. NBA is ridiculous.
