  1. Only if they change the rules. Two teams enter, one team leaves.
  2. Nice neighbors. Boy, I'd like to help you out, but three buttons is asking too much. Maybe if emergency was only '91', or just '9' I could see it. I hope I never get on a jury like that. I might be facing an assault charge myself.
  3. Tough to get a Ron Mexico sign on TV? Too complicated to get hundreds of people to hold up colored cards simultaneously? Painted on mustaches, ponchos/zarapes, sombreros, and huarache sandals. The TV usually gets in shots of people in costume. That'd be the time to sneak in a shot of your "Don't let Ron Mexico south of your border" sign. The TSW membership network alone could probably generate over a thousand Ron Mexico's at the game. Add tequila at your tailgate, and enjoy.
  4. Oh, I believe it. Like I said, it's always gone on, and always will. My point was I was still able to enjoy myself playing the game. I guess I should have been more specific in my first post about a parent making it a miserable experience. It was one of my parents, not someone else's.
  5. It's supposed to be fun for the kids, even if the parents don't like it. Some of these stories remind me of why I quit playing organized sports when I was young. I experienced all of the same issues on my teams; those never change. Those things didn't bother me so much, if and when they happened. I got over it and enjoyed what I could of the rest. The reason I quit was because a parent made it such a miserable fuggin experience that it was no longer fun. It's not a job, it's a game your kids play. Some folks appear to believe they're managing a professional.
  6. One of my kids is a July baby. She's the youngest in her K class; seems to be doing fine. We could've held her out until next year here in Florida (as well as California had we not moved), but I didn't see any reason to. Don't be a worrywort; you're involved in their lives, they'll be fine.
  7. More specifically, a short quote extracted from a four-paragraph answer in a press conference three years ago. But it's a really strong argument with a firm foundation at it's base, as extracting short quotes from long answers in three-year-old press conferences is an excellent way of making a hard case out of a meaningless point when all other available information contradicts it.
  8. I came across that last month, and searched around to see what other former players were intern coaches. Some of the interns are still active players! They're just working the NFLE training camps. I wasn't sure if AVP was just working training camp, or if he was going to coach the whole season. This is what I found.
  9. They've already converted to a common monetary system, so fighting about a constitution to formalize what already exists is kind of a moot point. It's very poignant in that the citizens of each nation would have to come to terms with relinquishing some of their sovereignty contractually, but any damage (real or perceived) to that effect has already been done. In for a penny, in for a pound, as they say. Maybe that should be changed to Euro.
  10. The way the numbers slide when church attendance is factored in is pretty interesting though. Big difference there.
  11. The state should force pharmacists to sell a product they would otherwise refuse to sell, or strip them of their license. Was it all a dream? Did the USSR actually win the Cold War? BTW, if you're so bad at making analogies that you can recognize it yourself, maybe you should type it out just to get it out of your system, then delete it before posting.
  12. CNN exit poll demographic questions.
  13. People still use hardcopy passports? I have the new passchip implant. It has all my biographical data, and is tied to my bank account, as well as my job time-keeping database, so I never have to clock in/out. I kind of miss being able to fudge my timecard a few minutes here and there, but not having to carry cash to make purchases anymore is pretty convenient (except for those stores that don't have the readers installed yet). So I still need a wallet, but not for much longer unless I want to keep carrying family pictures. The worst part about it right now is my medical/health insurance premiums increasing every time I buy a pack of smokes or a cheeseburger. But as long as I don't go over my quota each month, I guess I'm ok with that. Last month I had to get my neighbor to buy a case of beer for me, because the system recognized my wife as being in the same household, and we were over the limit. He was willing to do it once, but he didn't want his insurance rates to go up with repeat purchases, so I'm going to have to find someone else...
  14. I used to live at Post Forest Apartments right on the other side of 66 from there. Coming home from work I'd take Lee Jackson (50) to Waples Mill, then down Random Hills Road. The county govt center had just been built, but from Lee Jackson to the apartment was all forest in 1992; I see from the map it's had a ton of development. Man, I don't miss the traffic around that area. Eight miles to work was minimum 20-25 minutes if you were thrill-seeking enought to drive highway 66. I would allow 30 minutes and just stay on Lee Jackson to Falls Church. Worst time was an hour (!) in a rush hour rainstorm. Half the people I worked with would drive 1.5 hours to work one-way, just to afford a place to live. Some even further. Leaving there was the best thing for my blood pressure that I've ever done.
  15. Frankly, I don't know. The FBI is not one of the 'three-letter agencies' I'm familiar with. But I believe a couple of the major functions they perform in federal-level law enforcement and domestic intelligence are necessary, and I'm not sure how you would separate these. As separate as they may be, a level of cooperation is necessary. The law enforcement aspect may be split off and assumed by say, federal marshalls (which I know even less about), but there's a lot of crossover between law enforcement and domestic intelligence gathering.
  16. You're welcome. The DPRK is one of the few subjects on which I can speak with authority, and I can recognize when someone has done their homework. Having said that, one of the only other topics I know anything about is the US intelligence structure. There are quite a few suggestions being made about reorganizing the US intel structure in this thread. Some of the points raised have merit, but some display a misunderstanding of the specific roles of the agencies mentioned. Overall structure and working relationships between agencies can be analyzed to an extent by the casual observer, but there are suggestions to combine specific agencies (such as the FBI and CIA) that frankly would be out of the question. Lastly, I would suggest that internal workings of agencies is impossible to know without actual experience.
  17. I know a few things about North Korea. I recommend listening to KRC on this subject; he appears to have read up on it quite a bit.
  18. Solar energy isn't a bad thing, it's just that it requires too much money to implement (maybe not $85k a house, but you could drop $45k easy), and it still won't get you 'off the grid'. You're spending money on a system that won't last past the time it takes to break even on it (you'll have to replace panels and batteries). If there's any hope of widespread use and acceptance, someone will have to design a more efficient and durable Photovotaic cell. If they can generate enough electricity and last long enough to break even after say, 2 to 3 years, I think people would accept that. I personally can't afford it right now. How about nuclear power?
  19. Great story. Kind of puts a hitch in my Jerry Sullivan Is A Callous Cynical Jerk theory, but I liked it anyway. Frank Croisdale (TSW ChevyVanMiller) says the Collard family is one of the stories he covered in his 'Buffalo Soul Lifters' book.
  20. Yes, food is dangerous. Don't eat food and you'll be safe. Avoid beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs, dairy products and any raw vegetables. Don't smoke tobacco, or drink anything except water that's been boiled. I probably left off a few things, but this is a good start. You'll live forever. Next lesson: How to type through your bubblewrap suit.
  21. Now that is truly bizarre. I was unable to find this information. A search revealed only the most heinous allegations against her husband. Where did you get this?
  22. Korean-style marinated BBQ pork, in red leaf lettuce with rice, red pepper bean paste, marinated green onions and roasted garlic. Kimche, bean sprouts, dried anchovies, etc, etc, etc on the side. I knew I should have taken a left at Albuquerque.
  23. The US lifted the ban on arms sales to India three years ago. Lockheed Martin was given permission by the Bush administration to market F-16's to India a year ago.
  24. Schawbl's sounds good; never been there, but I don't think I could order a beef on weck over their fish fry. Just sounds too damn good. Someone who still lives in Buffalo should be able to tell you if the Anderson's beef on weck is good. It's a Buffalo fast food joint, kind of like a Dairy Queen. I grew up near the Sheridan Drive one, but the only thing I ever went there for was a lemon ice or a custard. Anderson's Custard
