Williams is making starting tackle money but he's just a serviceable guard. If he takes a pay cut rather than a restructure I'd be happy with keeping him.

Agree with all of that. There is a good sample size of him "being turned loose against QBs" (which I just assume means blitzing) and he has arguably the worst production of any blitzer in the NFL. Edmunds' main responsibility is being a pass lane disruptor and coordinating the defense to that same end. He seems to have decent football IQ and he has elite physical traits so he's very good at that particular aspect of his job. Unfortunately he falls short in the other aspects of his job as a MLB. The Bills obviously know this. Their main objective on defense is limiting pass plays so they've clearly decided that his strengths outweigh his weaknesses in their scheme. I don't believe the Bills could find a replacement for Edmunds in FA or the draft without adjusting their entire defensive scheme. I think he fits nicely in what they want to do on defense and they'll live with the downside. If that's the case, then the only way they can mitigate his shortcomings is by improving other areas, namely the DL.

Then I would tell you that Jerry is very good at beating his man five yards down field of the QB. A high win rate that doesn't result in a high sack rate is a lot of wasted energy. It may force lesser QBs into bad decisions but a guy like Mahomes will just step into the giant holes created by the over pursuing rushers and either run for ten yards or take advantage of an unobstructed view of his receivers.

Akers was terrible when he came back (2.4 YPC with 0 TDs). The insistence of the Rams to shoehorn him back into the lineup over Henderson and Michel almost lost them a couple playoff games including the Super Bowl. Foreman looked pretty good although Hilliard was much better in the same offense.

The situations are almost exactly comparable, but the results are not at all comparable. It took KC 16 seconds to move 50 yards because the Patriots actually played defense. It took them 10 seconds against us because we did not play defense. Defending the field for those extra 6 seconds is literally the difference between us winning and losing. We actually only needed to slow them down by 1.5 seconds per play but instead we just let them execute both plays with no resistance. Very few teams in the league could have made the plays that the Chiefs made against the Patriots. Any practice squad could have done what the Chiefs did against us because we didn't even try to stop it.

I realize it wouldn't necessarily be a "minor" change but I was really hoping this was a thread about the Bills replacing Eric Washington. So much talent on that defensive line and almost no results all year long.

Considering those teams could have chosen any word in the English language that is not a racial slur, I think it comes down to lack of creativity rather than a limiting of options.

Okay, so the fact that you're saying they didn't completely replace their RBs because one of them had four carries last year already tells me you're arguing from a place of dishonesty. But I'd like to jump in here anyway because clearly revamping the entire offense isn't enough for you to call it a rebuild. Maybe you're a defensive minded guy. Since 2019 the Patriots have lost Stephen Gilmore, Patrick Chung, Kyle Van Noy, Jamie Collins, Duron Harmon, Danny Shelton, Elandon Roberts, and Jason McCourty. So, if you're keeping track at home, since 2019 they've replaced starters for QB, RB1, RB2, WR1, WR2, TE1, TE2, LG, RT, DT, DE, LLB, RLB, CB1, CB2, SS. The ones that didn't change are LT, C, RG, MLB, FS. If you don't think that's a rebuild, then you just don't think any team has ever done a rebuild. If you can find any other team that's ever replaced more than 75% of their starters and you wouldn't consider them a rebuild, I'd love to see an example. That being said, I do agree that spending $60 million on two TEs he barely even used probably disqualifies him from any GM awards.

You really don't see the difference between the Chiefs' players making spectacular plays despite NE covering them well and the Chiefs' players making routine catches because the Bills didn't cover them at all? In the Pats game it took the Chiefs 16 seconds to run those two plays because the Patriots made it difficult for them. If we had done the same thing, they would have run out of time. Not to mention that the Bills' coaching staff should have been extra prepared for this moment specifically because the Chiefs had already done this against the Patriots.

McDermott did mention "execution" in his press conference, which in my opinion is a huge cop out when the defensive alignment was basically designed to let KC do exactly what they wanted to do.

Even if Bass messed up the kickoff, there is a world of difference between accidentally causing a touchback and letting Kelce get an uncontested 20 yard catch with 8 seconds left. That's on McDermott and he should have taken responsibility for it, especially considering he called a timeout to get his defense aligned exactly how he wanted it.

That was 2020. They changed the rules in 2021 and the rate went way up.

Onside kicks were recovered 18% of the time this year. So you are way off with your premise. And that's when teams are expecting it. I wouldn't be shocked if that chance doubled with a surprise kick. So it would be a really tough call, but I do think the odds of recovering an onside kick in that situation are better than the odds of stopping the KC offense.

I'll be glad to see Daboll go, but my answer for this poll is Frazier. Go out and hire a DC who has a plan for stopping the young wave of QBs that are about to wreak havoc on the AFC for the next 15 years. Or anyone who will promise to double team Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce with 13 seconds left in a playoff game.

The Chiefs held our WR1 to seven yards. Are we really going to just accept that our coaches can't figure out a way to scheme their defense to keep the opposing WR1 to less than 20x that number? Give me a break. Some team is going to figure out how to effectively double team Hill and we'll just have spent years making excuses for why it's impossible to cover a guy who is 5% faster than the other elite athletes on the field. And before you say, "well double teaming Hill means their other receivers will be 1on1..." Good! I'll take Gabe Davis against Byron Pringle all day long and straight to the Super Bowl. Oh, and by the way, our TE1 was held to 9 yards. So the Chiefs' defense held our top two weapons to 16 yards and our #1 defense let their top two weapons get 246 without even putting up a fight.

He is bad under pressure from 4. Against the blitz he is the best in the league.

What do you mean it doesn't work anymore? We've been watching the Bills give up leads with the prevent defense for years now. It worked exactly like it always does.

Allen makes the entire coaching staff look good. They literally could not have had a worse game plan or game management and somehow Allen did enough to win.

Yeah I'm torn on McDermott. Obviously he completely changed the culture around the Bills and we are legit Super Bowl contenders now. But Josh Allen is most of the reason for the latter. And to lose a game when you're winning with 13 seconds left, the coach has to do multiple things that are monumentally stupid. Like, if you asked me specifically how a team could play those 13 seconds to lose intentionally, it would be exactly what McDermott did.

That's like a wish list of cuts. Except Mitch. He's a good backup QB. And can we add Edmunds to the list please?

Good. He won this game twice despite his offensive coordinator playing like chicken ***** for three quarters. He deserves it.
